3/05/31 Husband's letter: "Mrs. [
6] has told me of the
wonderful work you have done for her and for others and has
suggested that I write you in regard to my wife [
2217], age
56 and mother of two children ages 37 and 33.
"[
2217] during the past 3 years has slowly changed from an
active, healthy, happy woman to an invalid unable to walk,
constantly suffering pains in hands, feet and legs and
subject to most intense depression. She has been the rounds
of all the best doctors in the country and none of them have
been able to do anything except possibly retard the progress
of her disease. Mrs. [
6] has stated that it was possible
you would diagnose the case without Mrs. [
2217] coming to
Virginia Beach. If this can be done, in case the condition
is one you do not handle, it would save Mrs. [
2217] a most
difficult and painful trip."
3/30/31 Husband's letter: "Questions - What must she do
to be able to walk? What must she do to stop the almost
constant pains in hands and feet? What must she do to
sleep at night? What must she do to prevent fearful fits
of depression and hate, diametrically opposed to her former
disposition? Why is it that Liver as prescribed under
Drs. Minot [Dr.George R. Minot of Harvard, Boston, Mass.
See 2217-1, Par. R1.] and Castle built the blood up and
in the first ten days caused actual improvement in her
general condition but at the end of three months treatment
the patient had more pain in hands and feet, was less able
to walk or move limbs from waist down, was more depressed
and the abdomen more swollen? [See 2217-1, Par. R1.]
"The same improvement was noted in first 20 days treatment
Mucosa under direction of Dr. Sturgis of Ann Arbor, but
under longer treatment the patient slowly dropped back to
the old condition.
"Three years ago from the blood, the trouble was diagnosed
Pernicious Anemia. Either liver or Mucosa (Pig's Stomach)
will quickly remove all trace of Pernicious Anemia from the
blood but does not remove one of the actual outward signs,
Paralysis of limbs, pains in hands and feet, swelling abdomen
and intense depression with fits of extreme anger."
