This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 24th day of June, 1940, in accordance with request made by the mother - [...], new Associate Member of the Ass'n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by Mrs. J. H. Jones, via Miss Lillian Barclay.

TEXT

1. GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body. You will answer the questions, as I ask them:
2. EC: Yes, we have the body here, [2286].
3. As we find, conditions in the present are such that it will require long and tedious applications; being persistent and consistent in them, making the changes as the various periods arise in which it would be necessary for the corrections to be beneficial.
4. These are conditions as we find existent in the present:
5. The causes for the disturbance are of a prenatal condition. Thus in the cycle of the activity of the natures pertaining to the elements about which the vibratory forces of the foetus developed, there were hindrances in the forms of combinations.
6. Then there was an injury of the nature as to cause a lesion, and the administrations of hypnotics to prevent the reactions from the incoordination between impulses of the sympathetic and cerebrospinal system. Thus we have this combination of disturbances in the present.
7. The blood supply indicates the nature of those influences that have been attempted, to keep the nerve reactions from such spasmodic conditions in the contracting of the muscular forces through the violent impulses of the unbalanced conditions between the cerebrospinal and sympathetic systems, as effective through the lower portion of the brain. These are to be met, - also the cloggings that have occurred, by producing through this activity an incoordination in the eliminating system.
8. Thus, with the first causes as indicated in the cycle of the developing body, we have an adhesion or lesion in the lacteal duct, and the drainages from the canals in the areas of the duodenum, the pancreas, the spleen and the gall duct.
9. Hence we not only have the conditions which prevent normalcy in the assimilations, but the first causes in the system produce their reactions.
10. In the beginning, these things we will suggest may at times appear to cause more violent reactions in the nervous system. They should be continued for a period until there is at least the reaction of not so much nausea, nor so much of the contraction at the base of the brain, or of conditions in the muscular forces of the body.
11. Begin by taking a compound which would be prepared in this manner:
12. Gather two pounds of the Passion Flower. This may be either dried or the green. To make this more regular, preferably use the dried, - that has the blossom, the leaf, as well as portions of the fruit in same.
13. To 2 pounds of the Passion Flower add 2 gallons of Distilled Water. Let this boil, preferably in an enamel kettle with glass cover, rather than tin or aluminum. Reduce to about one half gallon. To this add 1 pint of Pure Grain Alcohol, or 1 pint of 90% proof whisky. Keep this cool. Take a teaspoonful four times each day.
14. Keep away from sedatives as much as practical.
15. Also begin with periodical applications of the Castor Oil Packs, - that is, begin preferably about the twenty-eighth of each month, - though each month it must change according to the phases of the moon. In this month it would be about the twenty-eighth, but in next month it would be about the twenty-fourth, and so on, - according to the phases of the moon - and each time it would be well to take the Castor Oil Packs an hour each day for at least three days. Do this as the body is ready to retire. Apply these as hot as the body can stand, not so hot as to burn but warm sufficiently with three thicknesses of flannel of sufficient breadth to cover the area from the caecum to the lower portion of the liver, and to at least the central portion of the abdomen. Wring out the flannel after soaking in the hot Castor Oil and apply directly to the body. Then cover so as to prevent soiling the bedclothing, and then apply an electric pad to keep this warm for an hour. Do these an hour each day for three days, about every twenty-eighth day, - or according to the phases of the moon.
16. Following each three-day period of the Packs, give internally two tablespoonsful of Ollve Oil. Then, after this has acted fully upon the bowels, givea high enema to cleanse the colon.
17. Keep up these applications for at least six months.
18. Then we will give the changes.
19. If the quantity of the Passion Flower has been taken, make another quantity in the same way. Continue with this, four times each day, until further information is to be given.
20. Ready for questions.
21. (Q) What causes the throat ailment, which makes him clear his throat and spit so much?
    (A) This is a nervous reaction and is sympathetic in nature. We find that this should be cleared as the system is cleared of the poisons and the lesions are broken up.
    After each of the applications of the Castor Oil Packs - only at these times, unless it is found that this will quiet the body more easily - it would be well to massage the body, especially the abdomen and the right side, and along the spine, with Pure Peanut Oil, - all that the body will absorb.
22. (Q) Should he continue the medicine the doctor prescribed?
    (A) As we find, this should be discontinued - for the present.
23. We are through for the present.

1. 6/04/40 Mother's letter: "A doctor in town is giving him medicine now as a preventive and not a cure, as he says there is no cure for him. Would like to know if you wish me to stop the medicine."

1. 7/17/40 Letter from [2286]'s mother to EC:
   "The time that I received the reading you gave my son, [2286], I was ill. A tonsil operation. Just as soon as I was able to be up, sent the letter to town by my daughter to get the things which I needed. She was then called out of town and when she returned the reading was missing. She must of misplaced it somewhere. We searched the house and every place we thought it might be. We can not find it. Would like to know if you could send us another copy of the reading including how to fix the castor oil pack. Am very much interested." Thanks, Mrs. [...]
