(Q) What is the cause and cure for his present condition?
(A) As has been indicated, this arises from upsetting
conditions in the digestive system; and the temperature, the
lack of appetite and of the ability to digest the foods, all
arise from these conditions.
There is the tendency at times to overfeed, then at other
times there have not been the precautions taken as to WHAT is
given in the feeding.
In the present, - we would give first a half teaspoonful of
Milk of Bismuth with a little water in same. This will
absorb much of the inflammation through the intestinal tract.
Then, three to four hours afterward, commence with the very
small doses of Castoria. Give about a quarter teaspoonful
every hour until there are GOOD eliminations.
There may be pains and crying from same, as this begins to
act upon the system. But use an equal combination of Mutton
Tallow, Spirits of Turpentine and Spirits of Camphor upon a
flannel, warm, over the abdomen during the period of taking
the Castoria - and keep same warm.
Also massage the body well along the spine with this same
combination, at least each evening when ready for retiring.
After the Castoria has acted well, THEN give with each
feeding two drops of Glyco-Thymoline. Keep this up until the
odor of same may be detected through the stool, then leave
off a few days, then give again until the odor is detected,
etc., and so on for several weeks.
Also after the general cleansing, and when better conditions
exist, we would keep the system sweet with Milk of Magnesia.
Small quantities of this will assimilate; about a quarter to
half a teaspoonful at the time, but kept up occasionally over
a period of several weeks. It is not to be given at each
feeding, nor even each day, but occasionally to keep the
eliminations near to normal.
If there is not the full eliminating of the temperature,
after the rubbing and the general cleansing, then in a week
or ten days it may be necessary to do the same all over
again, but in the same manner; cutting down on the feeding,
of course, during the period of the treatments.
These as we find will eliminate the causes; then be more
precautious as to the food, as to the quantity of same; and
we will find bettered conditions for the body.
(Q) What nourishment can be given?
(A) The formula of milk that has been indicated. Then
gradually there may be added the vegetables as prepared by
Gerber, rather than those that have other preservatives or
the like. All of Gerber's foods should be given in small
quantities from time to time, but DO NOT give them until the
SYSTEM has been cleansed, and until the temperature and
inflammation has been removed from the system; else we may
find colitis as a result!
(Q) Please give the formula for feeding?
(A) This is that as given by the ones preparing the milk!
(Q) When he is better and able to have vegetables, should
fruits be included in the diet?
(A) Vegetables! We didn't give fruits! However, fruit
juices, - as orange juice (though it will not agree at
first), - may be given. The orange juice with a little lemon
in it should be given when possible; but give small
quantities of it at first, and not other fruits, - unless it
is the baked apple, never raw.
There has been too much of other things injected into the
feeding, as indicated!
(Q) Any meats at all?
(A) No meats! Broths may be given, but not meats; and it
would be some weeks yet before even the broths should be
given!
(Q) Are his teeth causing any trouble?
(A) The teeth are causing some trouble. Cleanse the system
in the manner as we have indicated, and use the Milk of
Magnesia occasionally to keep the system sweet.
(Q) Are the drops being used in his ears beneficial?
(A) Beneficial, but why not RELIEVE the condition that
CAUSES same, through the inflammation in the intestinal
system!
