This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 13th day of July, 1940, in accordance with request made by the mother - Mrs. [2175], Associate Member of the Ass'n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

Present: Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno. [2175] and [2308], Beverly Simmons, Jane Williams and Luther Jennings. Born September 10, 1935, at Norfolk General Hospital, Norfolk, Va.

TEXT

1. GC: You will give the relations of this entity and the universe, and the universal forces; giving the conditions which are as personalities, latent and exhibited in the present life; also the former appearances in the earth plane, giving time, place and the name, and that in each life which built or retarded the development for the entity; giving the abilities of the present entity, and that to which it may attain, and how. You will answer the questions, as I ask them:

3. GC: Helena Dianne.

5. Yes, we have the records here of that entity now known as or called Helena Dianne [...] - Duane.
6. In giving the interpretations of the records as we find them here, many of the urges that arise from the various phases of the astrological and earthly sojourns are quite varied in the influences and inclinations manifested.
7. Some warnings would be given respecting certain influences, - especially we would warn respecting fire, as to any activities in which there would be the dangers of this bringing an experience that would not be pleasant.
8. Also we will find that much will depend upon the opportunity given in the early training, or the inclinations that are stressed or made to become manifestations in the experience.
9. While there have been a great number of appearances in the earth, only a few would be given here - as would be of material usage in this period until ten to twelve years of age.
10. These, then, are chosen with the desire and purpose that this may bring to the entity the awareness of the purposes for which it entered this material experience, and also that those responsible for the entity may embrace the opportunity to give those helpful influences and environs for the entity - that it may have the opportunities for expressing, manifesting those abilities, and magnifying the virtues, lessening the vices or influences that would hinder.
11. Hence those warnings as to playing with fire; being about where trash is burned or the like; else there may be influences which would not be helpful.
12. In the astrological aspects we find those influences arising from Mercury, Uranus, Neptune and Venus. All of these become a part of the experience; as well as later we should find helpful influences - if the developments are towards those abilities - in the entertaining field, - through which the entity may gain not only fame and fortune but, directed properly, may be a most helpful influence in the experiences of others.
13. As indicated, this will depend upon whether the Jupiterian influence becomes benevolent or in the extremes. For the extremes of Uranus as well as Neptune are a portion of the entity's experience.
14. Hence the fire and the water sign. Hence those urges for precautions, that they be not a part of the influence.
15. In Mercury we find the quick mental adaptability, - as the quick thought, the quick wit that is and will be a part of the entity's experience; as well as the extremes in which there are the moods to be considered.
16. Then - in correcting the entity - DO NOT ever break the entity's will! REASON with the entity, for the mental ability and aspects will incline to make the entity become stubborn, if there is the attempt to force or to cause the entity to act in any direction or manner "just because." Tell her why! Take the time to give the lesson as to the little grains of sand, the loss of a little stitch, or any force that gradually undermines by not being cared for as LITTLE things in the experience.
17. From Neptune we find that being close to waters, or waters, or about waters, is very well for the entity; and this also gives those abilities as the mystic, - the interest in the unusual, as in the abilities of seeing, feeling, experiencing that which to most would be the unseen forces about the entity.
18. These are well to be cultivated, not abused, nor encouraged by giving thought to what the reaction should be, but keep the spiritual import, the spiritual necessity - which has been a portion of the entity's experience through one of its sojourns, as one who accepted the veil.
19. The warnings also as to the fears, the doubts - these should ever be not in things but in CONDITIONS of the mental and spiritual aspects of individuals. These should ever be stressed in the developing years of this entity's activities.
20. As for the appearances in the earth's plane, - not all of these are indicated in the present, but those from which urges are manifesting in the present experience; that there may be a helpful influence from the giving of same.
21. Before this the entity was in the land of the present nativity, in the name then of Duane Worrell, - in the land nigh unto the entity's present nativity, but more in what is now Williamsburg, Richmond, Fredricksburg, Washington, Philadelphia and New York - AS an entertainer; as well as, later, a home body, who had problems all of herself with those of her own household.
22. From that experience we will find the abilities in any form of entertaining, reading, reciting, on the stage - the radio or the like. Any of these are channels through which the entity may give expression of that it has gained, - physically, spiritually, - and in which it may find an outlet, if there are the preparations for same through the formative years of its training and education. These should be kept in mind, as such is formulated, between now and its tenth to twelfth to thirteenth year of age, - when MORE of the appearances would then be given.
23. Before that the entity was in the land of promise, during those periods when there were the holy women set as the heads of the church, or as counselors; not as deaconesses, not as those today considered as sisters of mercy or sisters superior, but rather those who took the veil that there might be the better preparations of self to be offered AS channels through which greater blessings might come, and greater abilities for teaching. They were those who separated themselves from their families, their homes, that they might become as channels of blessings to others.
24. The entity was known then as Sister Duene. In the experience the entity gained throughout, through the abilities as a nurse, as a teacher, as a reader, as a song giver, as one who read poetry.
25. And this will be something that will be a natural talent or trend of the entity in the present experience; not merely rhymes, but those that have their story with the lessons that may be a part of the experience of those of whom the entity may read. The entity will be inclined to give such in its conversation.
26. Thus there are the needs for the oft reasoning with the entity, and for the giving of the spiritual background to the problems for the entity. And through these activities there may be found that stableness, that strength, which needs to be interpreted to self according to the purposes for its activity in this material plane. Not that any such is to bring the abnormal ways of living - but know - as He taught and as the entity practiced - to be Christ-like, or to practice Christian living, is a practical everyday life, and not something opened or closed on special occasions.
27. Before that the entity was in the Egyptian land, when the individuals or groups from Atlantis came into the land.
28. The entity was among the first Atlanteans born in the Egyptian land; thus came under the directions and teachings not only through the periods of turmoil but of reconstruction, and the long periods of the Priest's activity with the vocational guidance and direction by those activities through the Temple Beautiful - in which the entity was a most active individual as a musician, as well as one prompting many of those in their journeys of activity through the offices necessary to those choosing to use such as a mode or preparation for life in that particular period.
29. Then the name was Ted-kel-Em.
30. As to the abilities of the entity, - these are dependent upon the manners, the usages to which virtues, those vices, those abilities indicated, are manifested by the developing period of the entity.
31. As to that it may accomplish, - this is limited only by its own will.
32. Take the warnings, the counsel indicated. Apply those abilities indicated, and the earth, the peoples of same will be blessed by the activities of the entity through this material sojourn.

34. (Q) Does she have anything to do with the changes indicated in both her mother's and father's readings?
    (A) This as we find will depend upon the manner in which there is the training; though not as one especially given to being an emissary for a change, see?
35. (Q) Does the feeling of holiness the mother had at birth have any significance?
    (A) As indicated, the holiness about the entity in its experience before this, and more in that from the entity's activity in the holy land. For, the entity was acquainted with many of those called the saints of the church, as the entity was acquainted with the Master Himself. These in themselves brought that awe, that holy feeling in the experience of the mother.
36. (Q) Why was there difficulty in finding a name for her at birth?
    (A) Duane should be the name!
    This as we find was among those problems; for none seemed quite good enough!
37. (Q) Why the determination to have her next in line for the little bureau that descends to the Helenas through the maternal ancestors?
    (A) This as we find is the natural trend of those influences indicated, that are of many varied natures. These may be better determined as applications of those latent and manifested urges are made significant.
38. (Q) How old in the little bureau? From whom does it descend?
    (A) It was the entity's own!
39. (Q) What is the life seal, and its interpretation?
    (A) It would be the open heart, with the rose as a bloom in same. This is the interpretation of the true hearted, the wholehearted in purpose of that needed in the experience of the entity, and its sincerity to others.
40. (Q) Why does she feel she has to take care of her mother?
    (A) Because she has!
41. (Q) How was she associated with present mother [2175]?
    (A) She picked up her several times, when she didn't do so well in the experience before this!
42. (Q) Father [2301]?
    (A) That's who she had the worry with!
43. (Q) The sister [1566]?
    (A) We haven't the sister here as one closely associated in that period, but we have an association or connection with same.
44. (Q) Why is she so attracted to many people?
    (A) Those activities as indicated through the experience before this, and then what might be called a quick return, or a great deal of personality of the entity. And it's only individuals who have personality themselves who attract the entity, or the entity is attracted to!
45. (Q) Any specific period in which there will be more danger of fire?
    (A) Of course, it will be within the next five years, as indicated.

REPORTS

3. In 1942 and 1943 her mother secured three Physical Readings for her - see 2308-2, 2308-3, 2308-4.
4. In 1950-51-52 she attained considerable success as a dancer and an actress in Little Theatre groups. On 9/25/53 she married at the age of 18.
5. In October 1958 she returned to live with her parents and started legal action for a divorce. She did not intend to return to the stage but wanted to find out more about herself, so that she might make decisions with more wisdom. Mrs. [1523] reported: "She does indeed reflect the early training of her parents, but particularly her mother, [2175]. A paralleling of their Life Readings would give the reasons why, in part at least."
6. 12/23/60 Letter indicated she was very happy with life in N.Y.C., working for ... Productions.
7. 8/15/64 She remarried.
