TEXT

1. GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:
2. EC: Yes.
3. Now as we find, there are disturbing conditions which have prevented the better normal functioning.
4. In a manner this might be described as almost a vicious cycle, or circle, in which the body is attempting to function.
5. While conditions are gradually growing more serious, we find that if taken in time - now - they may be materially aided; eventually bringing near to normal reactions through the body.
6. In some time back there has been, as we find indicated, the effect of a severe cold, or a flu germ through the system. At the time there were subluxations existent in the 6th and 7th dorsal centers. These have continued to prevent the proper reflexes from the circulatory forces. The nature and position of these have affected the general nervous system, and this in turn produces a nervous digestion or indigestion, disturbing the liver, at times the heart, the circulation through lungs; and may produce most any form of sympathetic reaction.
7. These as we find are the sources, the causes then, of the disturbance with this body, [2313].
8. The effects have been quite different, that these have produced upon the physical organism at various stages. At times the upper hepatics have been disturbed, at others the reflexes or the kidneys, and at others the heart's activity, inability to sleep, the digestive forces, and even at times the superficial circulation has suffered from the poor eliminations - or the incoordinating of the eliminating forces of the body, through this combination of disturbances.
9. As we find, then, first:
10. We would begin with the deep GENTLE manipulations osteopathically throughout the whole system. After the first six or eight, make specific adjustments in the 6th, 7th and 8th dorsal centers; the upper portions of the dorsals to the right, the lower to the left - and down. Make these twice a week for some six to eight adjustments, even after the first six to eight general treatments have been given.
11. Then once a week, after these adjustments have been made, we would have a deep therapy treatment of the short wave electrical forces, to purify the blood stream. Not of the recoil nature as the sinusoidal, but of the deep therapy nature, see?
12. These then should be gradually left off.
13. There should be care taken as to plenty of exercise in the open, and plenty of the food values that are body, blood and nerve building.
14. These as we find should rebuild, should remove causes, and rebuild the forces for this body that are disturbed.
15. Ready for questions.
16. (Q) Any suggestion as to who would be best to make these adjustments?
    (A) Any good osteopath who will work with the suggestions here indicated.
17. We are through for the present.

(7/26/40 GD's note: See extra sheet of directions [which was enclosed] for Osteopath. Let us know the name and address of the one you choose, so we may put him on our mailing list. Also let us have a history of your case to the time of obtaining the Reading, so we may have something with which to compare our information.)

BACKGROUND

1. 7/22/40 He wrote: "Do you consider that the cause of my condition is upset nerves? Is it a functional ailment? This ailment or manifestation of the condition has continued now for about six months and the treatments prescribed have not as yet corrected the trouble."

REPORTS

1. 8/19/40 Sister Mrs. [1810]'s letter: "I have intended writing you ever since your Reading for my brother. I think he was a little disappointed that you were not a little more specific as to the trouble. I am going to tell you about his case. I am afraid he is in a serious nervous condition. For seven months he has had a rash on his elbows, thighs and other places. He has had every kind of a test and the doctors all agreed that it is nerves, but nothing they recommended helped. It would get better and then be worse again. I had no idea how serious it was until I reached Chicago and that was when I persuaded him to have a Reading. He is following your instructions and having a couple of osteopathic treatments a week. Thursday he developed a bad eye which the doctor says is an infection. He had an X-Ray of his teeth Saturday, but I have not heard the result. You spoke in your letter of his condition as becoming serious if not checked. Just what did you mean by that, and did you find anything that you did not tell him? I am really very much worried about him and wonder if there is anything else we can do."
2. 9/29/40 EC's letter to Mrs. [1810]: "Beg your pardon for the delay in replying to yours of the 19th but have been ill myself and has kept me away from my desk. Very much better tho now thank you, and able to be at work again.
"Am sorry to know your brother was disappointed in the information - but hope he will not be disappointed in the real results he will obtain by following the suggestions made. No there was nothing given that was not sent him. My understanding of his condition was - that the nervous trouble was such that without correction - there would be a more serious trouble, but believe the proper correction will aid in eliminating the trouble.
"Would suggest that in the course of a few weeks that we check on what has been done, and let him ask several questions about his trouble.
"Do hope he is a great deal better ere this."
3. 1/20/41 Mrs. [1810] requested another reading for herself and subsequently referred others for readings.
