10/08/31 GD's letter to Mrs. [
2352]:
"As the prescription has alcohol in it, I am sure you will
need a prescription from a physician before you can get
it filled. Therefore, I am referring you to Dr. James R.
Parker, in the Bankers Trust Building, who fills these for
us when necessary. If, after getting the prescription, the
druggist does not have the ambergris ingredient, we have some
out here - which would save them the trouble and delay of
ordering it. This is usually rather hard to get, though
Burrow-Martin may have it already.
"Perhaps you know someone whom you would prefer to give the
light treatments. If not, you might also get those in Dr.
Parker's office (from Dr. McCrary who is in with him), or
else from Dr. Carl Frischkorn on Freemason Street. In either
case, show him the reading and have him to follow directions
carefully.
"The Epsom Salts baths should be taken at night just before
you go to bed. Put five pounds of Epsom Salts (more won't
hurt) in a tub full of hot water, the hotter the better. You
can sit in the tub and gradually add hot water until it is
as hot as you can stand. Then you sit in the tub until the
water is cool. Any salts not dissolved may be used next
time, but five pounds should easily dissolve in a tub of
water. Hence my suggestion that more won't hurt. The
more salts you have, the more activity you get from it -
of course.
"The salts packs for the joints are prepared in this manner:
Heat enough water to dampen a towel or whatever amount of
material you need for the pack. Put as much Epsom Salts
in the water as will dissolve, and wring the towel or cloth
out - have it as hot as you can stand it and apply it to the
joints, or wherever needed.
"I don't think you will have any trouble getting the Chloride
of Gold and Bromide of Soda. If you do, we have some on hand
and could prepare that for you very easily.
"If there is anything else that you do not fully understand,
please let us know. We are anxious to help in any way we
can, for we know you will get results if you will follow
out the directions to the letter.
"Let us hear from you anyway - so we can know how you are
getting along.
"With kindest regards and best wishes for your future health
and happiness..."
