6/26/29 EC's letter to Mr. [...], friend of Mr. [
5717], who
referred Mr. [
2371]:
Mr. [...]
..., Ohio
My dear Mr. [...]
Yours of the 18th received. I was sorry indeed that we
were not able to give Mr. [
2371] his reading before he went
abroad. Our secretary, however, was away on her vacation and
it was impossible for us to get one to fill her place during
that time. Consequently, we were prevented from getting
readings for anyone during that period. I have had a letter
from Mr. [
2371], however, and he tells me he will take the
matter up with me as soon as he returns.
We are indeed glad to know that you are interested in the
work we are undertaking here. I'm sure you got from Mr.
[
5717] something of the idea of what we were trying to do.
I don't know just how much of our data you have had, so
I'm sending you information concerning the work. I am glad
that you consider it worthy of being passed on, and that you
suggested to Mrs. [
5670] that she communicate with me. I
have had some very wonderful letters from Mrs. [
5670], even
since the Doctor's death. Mr. Brown [Thomas B. Brown] of
Dayton is a member of the official Board, and is possibly as
well equipped to give you the proper insight into the work
as anyone, not only of the Association itself but of the WORK
itself, for Mr. Brown has studied it for several years. I
certainly appreciate your kindly feeling and would like very
much for you to visit our place and see at first hand just
what is being attempted, and how it is being carried on.
Thanking you for your letter, and hoping to have the pleasure
of meeting you in person, I am
Sincerely [EC:GD]

SALES DEPARTMENT MEMORANDUM
Mr. Edgar Cayce:-
Several months ago I recommended that Mr. [
2371] write to you
and obtain the help which I think you can be to him by giving
him a physical diagnosis. Your reading date was set so
far ahead that he could not obtain it before he sailed for
Europe. Now he has returned, and I understand that he has
not been able to obtain a reading up to this time, but that
he has received several invitations to visit your place?
How could anyone be expected to make a visit to Virginia
Beach without first having obtained what he asked for and
paid for? I heartily recommended your good work, but it
does seem that too much effort should not be spent to induce
people to make you a visit until you have given what you
should. It places your boosters in a real embarrassing place
to meet the condition which I have met in the case of Mr.
[
2371].
I would heartily recommend that you either send the reading
at once or return his payment. There should be no reason for
months (4 or 5) delay, and yours is certainly a work which
should not be commercialized.
Sincerely, [...]

Mr. [...]

Dear Mr. [...]
Replying to yours of the 18th, I must say that I think
you have the wrong concept of our work entirely. Our
appointments are five to six months already in advance.
That is not taking into consideration that anything could
possibly happen to me. As has been recently, unavoidable
circumstances have delayed the work for two or three weeks.
I am sorry Mr. [
2371] has not been able to obtain his
reading. We have offered several times to return his money,
and will be glad to - and give him interest on it to boot!
for we have more now than we can attend to. When we have
asked people to visit us, we have asked them merely that
their appointment might be put ahead. People in the
institution are given preference. If people don't like
that, they needn't apply - for the institution is builded
to physically MANIFEST the work, and those COMING to the
institution are given preference. That's why the invitation.
I doubt if we want to see him near as bad as he wants to see
us.
I'll be very glad to send him his money. I appreciate
your comment, but I would rather prefer constructive
than destructive.
Sincerely, [EC:GD]

The Association of National Investigators, Inc.,
Virginia Beach, Virginia
Attention: Miss Gladys Davis
Dear Miss Davis:
Replying to your letter under date of September 26th.
Your association can use its pleasure in either giving the
reading or returning the fee.
I sent the fee in good faith at the earnest solicitation
of one of your friends and boosters at a time when it was
practically an emergency.
Miss Davis, you can fully appreciate that up to the present
time I am not enthusiastic about your service, however, you
may proceed with the reading if you so desire.
Very truly yours, [

Mr. [
2371]
..., Ohio
Dear Mr. [
2371]
We appreciate your attitude in regard to the reading, and
cannot blame you for it. However, being limited as we are
- with Mr. Cayce only being able to give two readings in one
day - and with the great number of requests always coming
in - it has made us act in a seemingly unbecoming manner to
many. We realize this, and we certainly hope that we may
be of service to you in some manner. Will you please give
us another chance to try? We are setting a date for your
reading, for the morning of Tuesday, November 4th. Will
you please take the time to write us, giving us your exact
location between the hours of 11:00 and 12:00 o'clock on
that day - Eastern Standard Time? We are sorry to bother you
even this much, but it IS necessary for us to have your exact
address at the time of the reading.
Hoping to hear from you soon in regard to this, and that we
may yet be of service, I am
Sincerely, [signed] Gladys Davis Assistant Secretary
11/08/30 GD's letter to [
2371]:
Mr. [
2371]
..., Ohio
Dear Mr. [
2371]
We were very much surprised that we had no cooperation
from you with the last appointment. It IS necessary -
if you expect us to be prompt - for you to reply to the
letter, telling us just where you will be at the given
time. This is very necessary, to get anything like
satisfactory information.
Now we are making another appointment for the morning of
Wednesday, November 19th, between the hours of 10:00 and
12:00 o'clock, Eastern Standard Time. Please write or wire
us your exact location or address for the time set. This is
absolutely necessary. You once asked us NOT to wire you, so
we are having to set this far enough ahead so that we may get
a reply from you.
Hoping you will cooperate with us in this respect, and that
we may be of service, I am
Sincerely, [signed] Gladys Davis Assistant Secretary

Attention: Miss Gladys Davis
My dear Miss Davis:
The reason your previous letter was not answered was because
I was in the Hospital and not in position to reply to your
communication. However, promptness on your part, as stated
in a previous letter, has not been one of the strong points
of your Association.
Regarding the next appointment. Unless otherwise advised by
wire, I will be in ..., Ohio, on November 19th between the
hours of 10:00 and 12:00 o'clock, Eastern Standard Time.
Thanking you for your communication, and with kind regards, I
am
Very truly yours [

11/19/30 GD's letter to [
2371]:
Mr. [
2371]
..., Ohio
Dear Mr. [
2371]
We were able to get your reading this morning, even though
you did not tell us your exact location for the time set. It
might have given your condition in more detail if we had had
that information. However, I do not know that it would have.
I hope you will follow out the instructions given, for I am
sure that - if you do - you will get the results promised.
Please let us hear from you from time to time, as to how you
respond to the treatment.
Hoping that we have been and may be of service, I am
Sincerely, [signed] Gladys Davis Assistant Secretary
