TEXT

GC: You will give the relation of this entity and the universe, and the universal forces; giving the conditions which are as personalities, latent and exhibited in the present life; also the former appearances in the earth plane; giving time, place and the name, and that in each life which built or retarded the development for the entity; giving the abilities of the entity in the present, that to which it may attain, and how. You will answer the questions, as I ask them:
EC: (In going back over the years from the present - " - '37 changes - '31 - anxieties - '29 - '20 activities - '12 - developments - " etc., on back to birth date.)
Yes, we have the records here of that entity now known as or called [2420].
In giving the interpretations of the records of this entity, as we find written upon time and space, know that it is in patience, in perseverance, that the entity may become aware of their influence.
These interpretations, then, are chosen with the desire and purpose that this may be a helpful experience for the entity; enabling it to better understand the faults, the failures, as well as the virtues; and thus in this experience of opportunity manifest in such a manner that the faults may be minimized and the virtues magnified.
At once one may ask, who is to choose or to say what has been a fault and what a virtue?
In the life there are those experiences magnified and manifested in which there are diversions from or attunements to the universal, cosmic or divine law. Those in which there is a faltering in keeping the law become manifested in the individual as faults; and those in which there is the expression in keeping with the divine law as virtues.
For, remember, - the good lives on; and it is up to the individual to so correct, so manifest the experience that it may be of a creative, purposeful nature.
In interpreting the records as we find them here of this entity, there are influences arising from the sojourns of the entity in the material planes, as well as from the sojourns of the consciousness during the interims between the earthly experiences.
Not all of these may be indicated in this one experience of interpreting the records, but these are chosen as those that indicate that needed in the present, or that as may be applied in the present consciousness of the entity as to indicate growth towards the filling of that purpose for which the entity entered this present experience.
What then, ye may ask, ARE the purposes for a soul manifesting in flesh in ANY individual entity?
In the beginning, all souls that were as portions of the thought of God were given the opportunity for expression, as to be companions for that Creative Force - or God.
Hence, - as the application of self in relationship to the individual abilities has brought them as individuals into the various relations and into spheres of activity, in some there have been growths and in some there have been retardments.
But He, the Father, has not willed that any soul should perish, but has with each fault, each failure, prepared a way of escape; and that knowledge, that way, lies within the consciousness of each.
For, as the entity finds in its own analysis of self, there is body with its attributes, its weaknesses, its strength, its inclinations, its tendencies. From whence arise these tendencies? They arise from both the mental and spiritual manifestation in a causation world.
Then there is a mind, that is a body-mind; both spiritual AND material. From whence arise the emotions, the attributes, the activity of such? From its environ to the influences from the physical in all of its consciousnesses, as well as the spiritual - the First Cause.
Also we find the body-spiritual.
They are one; as the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit are one. God as the Father, Creator, Maker; the Son as the Way, the Mind, the Activity, the Preserver; the Holy Spirit as the motivative force - or as the destroyer or the maker alive, dependent upon the manners in which these influences are used by the individual entity, or whether there are or have been retardments or advancements towards - what? That we may be one with Him, know ourselves to BE ourselves, yet one in creative purpose and in activity in this material plane.
Urges arising from the astrological aspects would mean little for this entity here. These are indicated that there may be an understanding by the entity of the latent abilities, latent faculties as are manifested in the abilities of the entity to meditate, to turn within. Know that these are not merely form, but are the attuning of the spiritual - which should direct the mental, that the mental may build a sound body in purpose, in the physical activities, as well as in its hopes, its love, its life, its truth.
In Mercury, then, we find the high mental ability; not that the position of the planet at birth indicates certain faculties or abilities towards wisdom, but rather that the entity's sojourn there - in that consciousness - indicates the manner in which the entity may think.
We find in Jupiter the same type of influence as in its dealings or relationships to masses; as Jupiter represents that consciousness or activity of a universality of strength, of might, of power.
In Saturn we find the changes, the weaknesses as indicated in both the mental forces and the application at times. For, with its powerful, magnetic personality, the weakness of the entity is to forget that it isn't personality that is spiritual but the individuality - that is the personality of God, or the Son in activity.
These influences, then, as well as the sojourns in the earth, are chosen to be indicated in order to give the influences to be met; not merely that they are as karmic influences to be met whether or no. For, know - as manifested by Him - these are the law: If ye would be forgiven, then forgive; if ye would be loved, then love - not as a possessive thing, not as an ownership, but as He, the example, the Son, has shown - in that He thought it not robbery to make Himself equal with God, yet lived in the manner in which there was even the forgiveness to them who despitefully used Him for fear of jealousy, hate, avarice, malice, and without the thought, the care of WHY such arose in their experience!
As to the appearances, then; these we find as having the greater bearing upon the experience in the present:
Before this the entity was in the Scottish land, when the relationships between the Irish and the Scottish lands were ones of turmoil, ones in which the secular influence were dominated by the manners in which the various groups were active.
Hence back and forth in those lands did the entity make manifest; and then came to that new land with those groups who sought to find and to give expression in a land of freedom.
Hence in this experience the entity has found there is the desire to break away from orthodox views, or things pertaining merely to ideas that are man-made. For, in God, in the Son, in the Holy Spirit, there is NO creed; for creeds are only man-made. And remember that creeds are like those things that are done as in rote. However, to some rote becomes necessary, and there are the tendencies for the entity in its experiences to become subject to rote; yet these are the very things against which ye are warring. These find expression in personality, but in INDIVIDUALITY you may give the expression of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, WITHOUT the destruction of the personality.
In the present, as through that experience, there is the ability for the entity to become a leader among men; though not that of personal magnetism (though this may be expressed) but through so living, so being that which - through HIM working IN thee - may draw all men unto thee!
There were those activities in the land to which the entity came of establishing schools and educational factors that were of a practical nature, rather than of book "larning" as might have been termed then.
The entity was in the name Sidney McDodgman. In the experience the entity lost, the entity gained; and from same arises the abilities in leadership, the ability to see the sides of questions in which there may be the humor and the wit stressed rather than the sordidness of regulation.
Before that the entity was in the Roman land, during those periods when there were greater expressions in other lands.
The entity naturally (because of its former sojourn) was drawn to the Holy Land, and on beyond to India - as known in the present. Thus though the entity began as one in authority, it became as a wanderer through the experience - under the influence of the teachings of those in the land; not wholly conforming to the tenets of that teacher whom the associates followed and taught concerning, but in the attempt to apply such under different environments there came disturbance; at times peace, at others hardships, at others indecisions.
Let not that activity which was a part of the experience through that sojourn, as Margo, bring into the present experience those indecisions of that sojourn.
Before that the entity was in the Indian land, during those periods when there were the activities of the sacred individuals who became as manifested activities in the land; through the teachings as well as activities that were and still are a part of many of the peoples of that land.
The entity was a follower and a student of the great leader in that experience, - in the name Narjada. In the experience the entity gained, the entity lost. The entity gained in the desire to study, to know. The entity lost in the application of same then for personal gains, personal gratification of the great personality of the entity though those experiences.
Before that the entity was in the Gobi land, in the City of Gold - that may one day be discovered.
The entity was one of those who represented the Goddess of the Sun in that period of activity; acting in the capacity of one who made overtures for the activities to bring about relationships of the various natures for the maintaining of better living conditions in the Indo-China land as well as the Manchurian land.
Hence those activities through that experience bring to the entity dreams of empires (of a mental, not a material nature). These are well, if they are led by that ideal for maintaining the relationships between God and man, or by the tenets of same that are PRACTICAL in the experiences of those who seek to know same.
For, as in that experience, if the abilities are used for bringing the divine manifestations into materiality to the detriment of others rather than to the benefit, or for bringing divine manifestation into materiality FOR the benefit of an INDIVIDUAL, then it becomes sin.
For, though all that was, all that is, was created by Him, He subjected Himself to the MATERIAL law; that YE - yea, ALL - might find the way!
The name then was Prince (or Abba) Debarik.
Before that the entity was in the Egyptian land, during those periods when there were the activities which brought about the entrance of Arart into the land.
For the entity then, - seeing, experiencing within the inner self the needs for a revival of purposes, - rebelled against the Native King who later made peace with the Priest and Arart who came in from the Aryan or the Carpathian or Persian land.
The entity was upset mentally and materially by those changes wrought. Later, with the experiences of the Rebellions, and the incoming of the Atlanteans, the entity became rather as one that might be relied upon for the Law of One; which - as interpreted and made into an understandable form by those activities with the return of the Priest from banishment - brought comfort and aid to the understanding of the entity, - as Ben-Sada.
In the experience the entity lost, the entity gained.
As to the abilities of the entity in the present, then, - that to which it may attain, and how:
First, - find thy ideal; spiritually, mentally, materially. Know WHO is the author of thy ideal, and its tenets. For, it must be universal in its nature; and in keeping with that as ye find in thy experience, in thy relationships to man and God today.
Then keep self in that attitude and activity, - not as thou desirest others to give or to be, but that ye may in thyself so live, so set the example - by word as well as deed - that ye may persuade others to know Him - thy Ideal. Not as self, but making self of no estate that others may know the way.
As a teacher, as a lecturer, as a writer may such be accomplished.
Leave the personalities to others. Make thy individuality so bright in Him - who is the truth and the light - that ye may NEVER condemn thyself nor others, even as He.
We are through for the present.

Dear Mr. Cayce:-
Dr. Hereward Carrington [Hereward Carrington, Ph.D. - Director, American Psychical Institute] tells me that you make a specialty of reading people's past incarnations. I am interested in this question and would like to find out how much you would charge to give me such a reading, and what the procedure is? Can you do this without seeing the individual; or would I have to come to Virginia Beach? I would like to know as many of my past incarnations as possible; if, indeed, such can be discovered.
Hoping to hear from you soon, I am,
yours sincerely, [2420]

Dear Mr. [2420]:-
Have yours of the 27th - wish you might have known about our open meeting in New York last Tuesday evening, for at that meeting a period was devoted to the LIFE reading by one of the individual speakers.
Yes, we undertake such information, while would have to say it often seems to me very fantastic. Yet, practically every one says such has proven most helpful for them, and that is the proof of any psychic information.
Dr. Carrington is well qualified to judge of the work here as he has observed same for some years.
Am sending you, under separate cover, data on same - read, and if you wish me to undertake this - will be very glad to hear from you.
Sincerely hoping to be of a service [signed] Edgar Cayce

Mr. Edgar Cayce Virginia Beach Virginia
Dear Mr. Cayce:-
I am inclosing herewith my check for $20, together with my application blank, for membership for one year in your society, plus one psychic reading.
As I mentioned in my original letter to you, I am very much interested in the subject of Reincarnation. For two years now I have been making a study of it (and other occult matters), and am very anxious to learn about the past lives and incarnations of my entity. I understand such things, from an academic point of view; and so would like to have as many past incarnations, and as many details as you can possibly get, regardless of how fantastic they may appear. I feel that such information will be a help to me in my own spiritual development, and in my lecture work.
I have been a professional lecturer for nineteen years. Up until about two years ago all my work was travelling, photographing, and giving illustrated travel talks; but about that time I became seriously interested in Ancient Philosophy, Yoga, and Occultism, and decided to branch out and deliver more serious lectures on subjects which I felt might be of real benefit to others. So, as a starter, I prepared this talk on Happiness, and am now working on several more, on self-improvement, popular philosophy, and some elementary phases of the Hindu Yoga and the Ancient Wisdom.
I [am] enclosing herewith also my latest professional circular, which will tell you something about my life and travels. Also, in order to help you, perhaps, contact my vibrations, I am sending my latest snapshot, which was taken in Colorado last Summer.
Being a serious student I am not requesting this reading out of mere curiosity; but rather because I feel that it will be of definite benefit to me in my own self-improvement, and will teach me something more about the great subject of Reincarnation, in which I am a most firm believer. I want the LIFE reading, with as many lives and details as you can get. I will cooperate with you all I can in this matter, and in the future.
Yours sincerely,

REPORTS

12/18/40 Dr. [2420]'s ltr. to EC:
Mr. Edgar Cayce Virginia Beach Virginia
Dear Mr. Cayce:-
I received the LIFE READING a few days ago, and have read it and reread it very carefully a number of times since then; and I have analyzed it from several angles to see just what it contains. Being very familiar with occult and psychic matters myself, and having studied and lectured on Ancient Philosophy and Yoga and other esoteric subjects, I am in a fairly good position to understand and perhaps pass judgement upon a revelation such as this.
Therefore, I am sorry to have to report to you that I find it very unsatisfactory. It is extremely vague and superficial. The first few pages are nothing but elementary generalities about God and the Son and Holy Spirit with which every beginner is familiar. The revelations about the five past incarnations that you give are also of the most general nature, with no details or anything to make them in the least manner convincing. Some statements seem to be contradictory, and several times I find the ambiguous phrase "The entity gained, the entity lost." What can that possibly mean? Even the astrological analysis is superficial, and not even as complete as one can obtain from any commercial astrologer for $1.00. The reading in general does not analyze my present character or temperament at all, or even show anything very definite about past experiences that might help to explain my present likes and dislikes, or abilities, etc. Such a reading as this might apply to almost any one of a million or more individuals in the United States today; for it has, as far as I can discover, absolutely nothing personal about it.
This reading seems doubly inadequate to me by comparison with another reading of a similar nature given to me several months ago by a mystic here in New York City. This person has the ability to read the Akashic Records, and gave me a complete story of 13 earthly lives, eleven in the past and two into the future, as well as the spirit existences between each; and in every case the complete story of the life was given, from birth to death, with a mass of detail, conversations, descriptions, etc., which were extremely convincing; and these past lives really showed and explained ALL of my present qualities, in a truly remarkable and comprehensive manner.
I do not blame you personally for the failure of the reading you sent me; for I understand that you work with a control who speaks thru you while you are unconscious. But it seems to me, however, that in my particular case, your control was either playing a joke, or else does not have the information desired.
I am sorry to have to report this: but that is the reaction I have.
Yours sincerely,
1/09/41 EC's ltr. to Dr. [2420]:
Dear Mr. [2420]:-
Thank you very much for yours of the 18th of Dec. Am of course very sorry to know your reading was so disappointing. Yours is the 2nd out of some 2 thousand or more with such a report - and that from some one who had no idea of Reincarnation. But am sure you are better able to judge the contents of the paper than any one else for you.
To be sure there is possibly little use in my trying to explain any of the ambiguous sentences in the reading, but gained and lost - is very easy it seems to me - and is very unusual that just today had letter from possibly one of the best known Psychologists in the country [2410] (?) - regards his reading - And that very sentence - helps him to understand his reading - that there were times he had felt he was right - and found himself wrong.
Please, however - do not think I have a Control or have been lead to believe that by every investigator that has studied the work for the last 40 years - whether they were scientists, psychologists, psychiatrists, Metaphysicians or just Spiritualists - and have had many even from the far east Yoga philosophers and teachers. But all have agreed it is the Universal Consciousness.
Do hope however you find just what you seek - and are able to use it to the Glory of God. Please remember the elementary come first - and learn that well.
Sorry to have bothered you or for you to have been mislead.
With all good wishes
Sincerely [signed] Edgar Cayce

Dear Dr. [2420] [GD's note: He had added a "D.D." degree on his letterhead.]: It was a pleasure to have you in the audience at the Psychology Forum the other evening. Thank you for speaking with me afterwards.
I have read with interest your mimeographed sheet outlining your work.
It would be of interest and perhaps help if I could see some of your analyses for others. Would it be possible for me to meet and talk with you when I am in New York in February?
Whenever you are in the area of Norfolk or Virginia Beach, do stop in and see us here at the Association Headquarters. It would be a pleasure to outline for you the work we are doing on the Edgar Cayce records.
Sincerely, Hugh Lynn Cayce [HLC/ha]

Dear Mr. Cayce:-
Thank you for your letter of December 8th. I too, enjoyed meeting you.
Certainly, I will be glad to see you when you next come to New York in February, and show you some of my analyses and demonstrate the pendulum. Give me a ring on the phone when you arrive, and we can make a definite appointment. It would be best for you to come to my apartment where the conditions are best for this type of work.
The inclosed green sheet is simply for your own information, to show you how I use this gift of mine professionally to help others. I have been able to do considerable good already, tho I have had this gift less than two years.
It may be of interest to you to know that Dr. Paul Brunton came to visit me last week and stayed five hours discussing the pendulum and occult philosophy. Dr. Brunton had never seen anything like the work I am now doing.
So far I have no definite plans that will take me to your vicinity. If I do, I will surely pay you a visit. I am interested in anyone who is doing good work along occult lines.
Yours sincerely,

DR. [2420]'S PENDULUM READINGS
In these Personal Readings Dr. [2420], F.R.G.S., internationally known lecturer, world traveler, and author can help you to know yourself MORE ACCURATELY than ever before, because he possesses the unique gift of being able to reduce all the information and facts about yourself to NUMERICAL VALUES. Thanks to an unusual phase of Radiesthesia (sensitivity to vibrations) which he calls RADIOMETRY, or the Reading of Radiations, Dr. [2420] can receive the subtle wave-lengths that come from your physical and metaphysical natures and interpret them by means of a pendulum and dial, and tell you, among many other things, IN EXACT FIGURES AND PERCENTAGES, how well each organ and vital system of your body is functioning; and the degree of development of each and every trait of character, emotion, and abstract quality or your personality. In fact, there is hardly a thing about yourself that he can not tell, exactly, by this NEW METHOD of Human Analysis. Try it!
No. 1 PHYSICAL READING This gives you a complete Vibratory Report of the condition of your entire physical organization: the health, in terms of 0-100%, of each internal organ; the exact amount of each vitamin and mineral you have stored in your body; the state of your nerves, glands, digestive system; your acid-alkaline balance; and the vitality of your heart. Fee $5.00 Time, one hour. (Not a medical diagnosis)
No. 2 CHARACTER ANALYSIS Based on the radiations that come from your mental, emotional, and spiritual natures, this Reading tells you, in terms of 0-540, the exact development of 24 basic abstract traits of character, such as: Self-confidence, self-control, Faith in God, ability to cooperate, capacity for friendship, earning capacity, artistic creative ability, determination, mental capacity (not I.Q.), tolerance, emotional stability, personal magnetism, intuitive judgement, business ability, etc. Fee $5.00 Time, one hour. (Not a medical diagnosis)
No. 3 EMOTIONAL TRAITS This tells you, also in terms of 0-540, how strongly or not you are dominated by 24 basic emotions, including: Anger, conceit, courage, fear, generosity, honesty, jealousy, love, optimism, pity, selfishness, vanity, worry, etc. This knowledge, if rightly applied, will help you to develop a calm, forceful, and integrated personality. Fee $5.00 Time, one hour. (Not a medical diagnosis)
No. 4 COLOR AFFINITIES The correct use of color is becoming more and more important for Better Living. This unusual, scientific Reading tells you, in terms of 0-100%, exactly how you "respond" and "vibrate to" the seven shades of the rainbow, and 20 other common colors; and which of these colors would be best for you to use for wearing apparel, hats, the walls of your living room and bed room, and other purposes. This is a fascinating Reading. Fee $5.00 Time, one hour.
In addition, Dr. [2420] does many other helpful things with RADIOMETRY, such as: Give Vocational Counselling; Child Guidance; help husbands and wives to understand each other better; determine if a woman is pregnant, and the sex of an unborn child; discover, from a map, which city is best for you to work or live in; detect forgeries, counterfeit money, and fake antiques or paintings, etc. And what is more unusual he can do any of the above Readings from a person's photograph. Fee for this special work, $5.00 per hour. For appointments, consult: [...]
