This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce in the Association office, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 24th day of April, 1941, in accordance with request made by the self, Mr. [2490], new Associate Member of the Association for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by Mr. [257].

Present: Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno.

TEXT

1. GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body. You will answer the questions, as I ask them:
2. EC: Yes, we have the body here, [2490].
3. Now, as we find, there are disturbing conditions which prevent the best normal functioning. In their present state these might be called warnings. For, the inclinations and tendencies now exist which if corrected would remove that as may cause greater distress later on - and prevent the producing of such a condition in the functioning of glands and organs as to become hard to cope with.
4. If taken in the present, however, - with precautions, with diet, - we find that these disturbances may be eliminated from the system.
5. These, then, are conditions as we find them with this body, [2490], we are speaking of:
6. In times back there has been a disturbance that has caused a subluxation in the 6th, 7th and 8th dorsal. This produced pressures to such an extent as to slow up the impulse, or the circulation, to the spleen and pancreas.
7. Then there was produced a high nervous tension through a mental condition; and the body submerging same caused greater distress in this direction, producing such conditions in the pancreas and spleen as to cause an engorging of the flow of circulation between the liver, the heart and the lungs.
8. Hence we find those tendencies towards sugar in the urine, with a condition that brings about tendencies towards becoming easily drowsy, - yet when lying down it is hard for the body to go to sleep, at times. There is the high nervous tension, there is an abnormalcy in the blood pressure, also there is an engorging in the thrombose - or that circulation between the heart, liver and lungs, as indicated.
9. These - with the kidney disturbance, or at times a quantity of urine and at others frequent but scarce - are the disturbances as we find with this body in the present.
10. Then, - in meeting the conditions:
11. First, we would give, DO NOT take shots of insulin!
12. DO take the Jerusalem artichoke in the diet twice each week. We would take it regularly, Tuesdays and Thursdays; one time it should be cooked, the next time raw, and so on. Eat one about the size of a guinea egg, with the meal, on those days, you see. Keep a quantity of these in the ground. Do not attempt to keep them in the ice box or otherwise, for the withering of same causes the loss of much of the beneficial properties.
13. Begin with making corrections, osteopathically, in the dorsal areas. Have these X-rayed; and have corrections so that these remove pressures in this area; taking sufficient number of the osteopathic corrections for the removal of the pressure.
14. As to the rest of the diet, - do not take too much fats, nor rare meat or red meat.
15. Have mostly the leafy vegetables, fish or fowl.
16. Keep in the open a great deal; not strenuous activities, but walking, riding, golfing, rowing, fishing, hunting and the like would be well if taken moderately, not severely.
17. It is not necessary that the body rest entirely, as indicated by the type of exercises; but DO have the osteopathic corrections made, keep away from sugars, keep away from sweets to any great extent - as pastries, pies or the like, - and we will find we will bring much nearer to normal conditions, eradicating the causes of these disturbances.

19. (Q) Is it necessary or advisable that I continue to stay away from my business except for two hours a day?
    (A) As indicated, this is NOT necessary - if there is plenty of rest taken, and the proper kind of exercise.
20. (Q) How long as this condition been existent?
    (A) It has gradually grown, and - as indicated - the mental conditions have produced greater exaggeration; that is, the disappointments, the anxieties - not a MENTAL but an EMOTIONAL condition.
21. (Q) What produced the subluxation in the dorsal area that causes this trouble?
    (A) For this we would have to search back, but it was a wrench or a twist in the back - sometime ago.
    Do these things, and we will bring near to normal forces for the body - if there is consistence and persistence in following the applications suggested.

BACKGROUND

1. 4/16/41 [2490]'s letter to EC:
   Mr. Edgar Cayce, c/o A.R.E. Virginia Beach, Virginia
   Dear Mr. Cayce:
   I am enclosing herewith my check for $20.00, and wish to have the privilege of a physical reading.
   As you will note, I am recommended to you by Mr. [257] of New York City, and when and if the time is available I will appreciate receiving the reading from you. I have known Mr. [257] for a period of about twenty years or so, and he has made me a full believer in your Enlightenment of this Association.
   I would appreciate your telling me just how I can doctor myself regarding physical defects, which have been diagnosed by doctors recently. They say I have a mild form of diabetes, a roughening of the heart, a very high nervous tension and, in general, that I should take a complete rest for at least six months or a year.
   Do you know what might have caused this physical breakdown, or this condition? How long do you think I have had it, and what is the best thing for me to do to bring myself back to normal?
   At the present time I come to my office only two hours a day, resting until eleven o'clock each morning, and am careful with my diet. But, owing to the fact that I have tried to carry a great deal of business responsibility this might have been the cause of this physical breakdown. However, I would appreciate your diagnosis of the same, and I can say that I shall follow your advice to the letter...
   Naturally in the form of vacations I have been very lenient regarding this, as I have practically been working since I was about thirteen years of age and in that time have only taken between six and eight vacations, and at none of those times did I ever vacation alone, but always mixed my work with my travels.
   Due to my doctor's advice on or about February 1st, I come to my office only two hours a day, and have been on a stringent diet and have lost around sixteen to eighteen pounds.
