3/13/31 Letter enclosed with report on his condition, etc.
[See 2504-21]: Addressed to Board of Directors, Cone Worm
Gear Corp., Norfolk, Va.: "Gentlemen: The writer on leaving
Norfolk, January 3rd, 1931, stopped off at Washington, D.C.,
and conferred at some length with Mr. Richmond in connection
with certain pending patent applications.
"He then proceeded to the Nuttall Plant of the Westinghouse
Electric and Manuf. Co. where he spent two weeks in
connection with cutting experimental gear sets. During his
stop in Pittsburg he had occasion to go into the patent
situation in detail with the Westinghouse attorneys, and to
secure from them some valuable assistance in connection with
certain amendments to the patents which are coming up at this
time for action.
"From Pittsburg the writer went to Detroit and has spent
considerable time with the patent attorneys of the Michigan
Tool Co., who are also lending material assistance in
connection with said patents.
"The Michigan Tool Co. is proceeding with the development
of a machine which will, when completed, enable them to cut
worms and worm wheels, and also to thread, back off and grind
hobs of the cone type. In this connection they have prepared
some sixty plans and the work is now actually in process of
fabrication. They are also proceeding with the manufacture
of hobs and cutters for Westinghouse Mack Truck, General
Motors and New Process Gear Co. The Westinghouse and Mack
Truck jobs should be completed in the course of the next
thirty days.
"The writer shall send you, in a few days, the contract with
Michigan Tool Co. for your approval.
"There is no objection on the writer's part to the regular
February Meeting of the Board, which will have to take place
in his absence. The writer would suggest however, that this
meeting be delayed until you receive the proposed contract,
so that same may be acted upon at the regular meeting.
"We are making satisfactory progress, and conditions look
better than at any time since our unfortunate relations with
Timken Axel Co.
"Yours very truly, Cone Worm Gear Corp., G. R. Scott,
President and General Manager.
"P.S. I enclose herewith the last communication from Scott
regarding the progress of Cone Gear. Should you at any time
feel disposed to I wish you would find out how the immediate
future for Cone Gear is looking for this is our hope
financially."
