This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the home of Mr. David E. Kahn, 20 Woods Lane, Scarsdale, N.Y., this 4th day of May, 1941, in accordance with request made by the self - Miss [2555], new Associate Member of the Ass'n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., Virginia Beach, Va., recommended by Miss Dorothy Giles.

TEXT

1. GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body. You will answer the questions, as I ask them:
2. EC: Yes, we have the body here, [2555].
3. As we find, there are conditions that are preventing the best physical functioning through portions of the body. These are not so much because of organs being diseased as being at dis-ease through pressures produced, or that have been produced in the body.
4. Much of the disturbance arises through the nervous system by the physical organism attempting to adjust itself; thus producing forms of pressure or hindrances that give the incorrect impulse to the activity of organs; thus being reflex in their nature.
5. These, then, are conditions as we find them with this body, [2555] we are speaking of, present in this room:
6. The blood supply indicates nerve pressures and deflections, though in its functioning as a building and distributing agent it is very good.
7. The pulsation or the heart beat, as related to the circulation, is at times irregular. This is indicated, as we shall see, by the attempts of those conditions as related to the central circulation, - lungs, heart, liver, kidneys. For, the pressures in various portions of the body, by outside influences, cause these deflections.
8. In the nervous system, or systems, - here, as indicated, are the effects as well as sources of much of that as may be corrected through the activities in the functionings of organs for this body.
9. There having been areas where lesions have formed, from accidents or pressures externally brought about in the lumbar, the central dorsal system, and to the upper dorsal and cervicals, there are conditions in the segments as repel or prevent the proper impulses to portions of the organisms. These are seen in the lumbar axis, the lower portion of the 9th and 10th dorsal, and in the areas of the 3rd, 4th and 5th dorsal centers. Naturally, with these deflections, pressures are also indicated in the upper cervicals.
10. These, then, are sources for the deflection as related to the circulation between the liver and the kidneys; thus causing oft that activity in which there are the inclinations for excess functioning of the kidneys, causing some bladder disturbance or irritation.
11. Then, as we find, these produce the excesses of the uric acid; and thus producing pressures upon the sympathetic system as well as the cerebrospinal or central nervous system, these deflect the activities of the organs themselves; producing at times an excess of sugar in the system as well as the sedimentary conditions. Hence pressures are then produced through the pelvis, across the small of the back, and about the upper portion of kidneys.
12. Pains are then produced that at times become very aggravating; yet there is exceptionally good activity of the organs, considering the character of pressures that have been and are being produced in the body.
13. Hence the nervous systems become involved, both the cerebrospinal - or central nervous system - and the sympathetic or vegetative system.
14. As to the functioning of the organs themselves:
15. Brain forces and their reflexes are very good; though, as indicated, reflex conditions in the activity of some of the organs themselves become the sources that produce disturbance in the body. But these are not brain reflexes; they are rather the organs themselves producing reflex conditions from overactivity, or at other times from nerve pressures in the sympathetic system, impoverishment to the organs.
16. And these organs, - heart, lungs, liver, kidneys, - are those involved in the deflected activity; thus producing VARIED conditions of the organs functioning themselves.
17. Throat, bronchi, lungs, larynx, - here we find only at times a lack of proper activity, when the body becomes overtired, overexcited, or when there is an acute condition as a reflex in the nervous system; but not organic disturbances.
18. Lungs, - with part of the deflections, while not organically disturbed, there is a shortness of breath; a fullness in the upper portion of the trachea activity - or just above the stomach; and the inclination to gasp or to seek deep breaths; causing at times sighs when the body does not intend such an activity, but these become the reactions of the impulses of nerve forces; voluntary becomes involuntary, and involuntary becomes voluntary.
19. As to the activities of the heart as related to liver, lungs and kidneys, - these arise more from pressures in the cerebrospinal nerve system; that is, at certain areas or segments in the cerebrospinal system there are pressures that, combined with their activity upon the sympathetic nerves attempting to coordinate with the central nerve system, cause acute conditions - and a variation in the activities of these organs. These, as indicated, are in the lumbar axis, the sacral, the lower portion of the 9th and 10th dorsal, the 2nd, 3rd and 4th dorsal, and reflexly through the upper cervicals.
20. The digestive forces and the eliminations become at times involved; and yet these are good considering those deflections that have been indicated. But these conditions should be improved a great deal with the application of those influences as we find would be of material aid to the body.
21. In the activity of the liver as related to the kidneys and the irritations, - we find that there are reflexes, and with the removal of pressures, with such activities as to bring better coordination between sympathetic and cerebrospinal, we should gradually find great improvement - not suddenly but gradually; and prevent a great deal of distress of acute natures later; giving much better activity throughout the physical, mental and spiritual forces of this body.
22. First, then, - under the direction of such an one as Backman, - we would have the hot and cold applications to the spinal system, especially in the areas indicated; following same with gentle but specific massage to relax those pressures indicated in those areas.
23. We would use a little variation in the diets for the body. While the diet has been very good in most cases, we would add the Jerusalem artichoke to the diet; not too much, but at least once each week take an artichoke - at least the size of a hen's egg; this preferably cooked, for this body, but cooked in Patapar Paper, so that the juices as come from same are mixed with the bulk when the skin is removed and it is prepared for eating. Just add sufficient salt or other ingredients to make it palatable for the body, but the effect of these will be most beneficial to the body. Eat with the regular meal, you see, once a week. Do not increase the quantity too suddenly, even if there is the desire to, but keep this up for at least ten to twelve weeks of adding this to the diet.
24. Beware of too many sweets, though honey or the white Karo or the like may be taken in moderation.
25. Of evening when ready to retire we would massage the body across the areas of the kidney and lower lumbar (that at times give such distress, when the body is attempting to relax, with an equal combination of Mutton Tallow (melted), Spirits of Turpentine and Spirits of Camphor. Dissolve - say - enough Mutton Tallow to make two tablespoonsful. Then, while it is still warm, add two tablespoonsful of the Turpentine, then two tablespoonsful of the Camphor; in a jar or container that is not metal, and that may be kept covered when not being used. Massage just what the body will absorb across the back, you see; then saturate at least two thicknesses of flannel with the same compound and apply. Heat may also be applied, as an electric pad, if so desired. This will bring ease and allow better rest by the body. It is best to use this each evening for five to ten days, then leave off a period, and then - should the condition recur - use again.
26. Do these consistently, persistently, and we will bring bettered conditions for this body.
27. Ready for questions.
28. (Q) What should be done to relieve the arthritic tendencies, especially in spine, and to prevent further development in that direction?
    (A) As indicated, there have been injuries - or causing the segments to go close together. These are the tendencies, more than arthritis, in the tendons and muscles. With the application of the hot and cold, with the use of those properties indicated, we should find that these tendencies will be removed.
29. (Q) Are there any other bad effects from my recent accident, being struck by a taxi and injured near the temple, or any condition which should be treated to prevent after effects?
    (A) The reflexes through the cervical areas come from the combination of those tendencies in the lumbar axis, 9th and 10th dorsal, and the fall or injury to the upper dorsal areas.
    Using these applications indicated should remove the after effects of these conditions.
    Do these. Keep that cheerful mental attitude which has been and is such a part of the body-mind; making for constructive associations with others.
30. (Q) What should be done for bottoms of feet and toes?
    (A) The removal of the pressures in the lumbar axis will remove a great deal of this pressure, and this tendency for callouses on portions of the feet.
    But massage the feet each evening for five days, and then leave off, then begin again, and so on, with the equal combination of Olive Oil and Peanut Oil. Rub on all that will be absorbed. Then put a very light wrapping or stocking upon the feet. The next morning they may be bathed or cleansed in tepid water.
31. We are through for the present.
