5/14/41 GD's letter in reply to his sister, Mrs. [
1158]'s
questions:
I will try to answer your questions regarding the Castor Oil
Packs and get it mailed today.
1. Usually about a pint of oil is sufficient to saturate the
flannel. You can judge by the thickness of the flannel and
how much space is required.
2. The oil may be left in the pan from one time to the next,
also the flannel; just pouring in more oil as you need it.
It is not necessary to wash out the oil; in fact, it is
almost impossible anyway, and since it is the oil you want it
is preferable to just leave it soaked in the oil, keeping the
pan covered, of course, so as to prevent dust from
accumulating.
3. After the first saturation, not much additional oil is
required each time. I'd suggest that you buy a quart of
Castor Oil at the beginning, which should be sufficient for
the whole first series - at least; or perhaps for several
series.
4. The size pan would depend on the thickness and space
required for the flannel. It should be about as big around
as the size of the ordinary small electric plate, and then as
deep as required to comfortably saturate the flannel in the
oil without slushing it over the top. You might find a
suitable pan in your own kitchen that would do. In fact,
when I applied the Packs for a friend last winter I used a
tin candy (or cake) box - small one.
5. Either the thin oil silk or the rubber sheeting would be
alright, or just a yard of plain oil cloth, cut into the
desired shape. Or you could make a rubber or oilcloth cover
for the electric pads. Some of the new electric pads come
with oilcloth cover.
6. The oil will NOT turn rancid. It will keep indefinitely,
just sitting on a shelf or under his bed where ever he keeps
the paraphernalia for taking the Packs.
7. The Olive Oil may be taken with orange juice or lemon
juice, or a combination of the juices. A little lemon
squeezed with it helps, even in using the orange juice - but
don't take it until bedtime, and not right on top of eating
something, of course.
8. I think it would be a very good idea to carry the Olive
Oil - Peanut Oil combination in a bottle with him and rub on
at night, around face and throat, - then the masseur wouldn't
have to bother with this; as I don't think they USUALLY
massage the face and throat, though I'm not sure about this.
9. Yes, it would seem that once a month is rather far apart
for the sweat baths and rubs. Usually the Readings suggest
them about once a week or twice a month, - then the colonic
once a month only.
It was so nice seeing you here, meeting your brother, etc.
I'm just hoping that he will get the wonderful results as so
many others have gotten. Heaps of love,
Gladys
