4/26/27 EC's letter to Mrs. [
979]:
My dear Mrs. [
979]:
As always, I was very glad to have yours of the 17th. I will
certainly have to agree with you, Mrs. [
979], that one does
not gain very much from the Life Readings without
considerable study, yet to my mind there are so many things
in life that are fully explained if we study a Life Reading,
that I am growing more and more to not only believe in them
but to depend upon them - for I wouldn't know how to explain
many passages in the Scripture without much of the
information that we have been getting in such readings; yet
we find a great deal of the information is clothed in such
words that we have to study it very much in the same way that
we have to study the Bible. I have been very anxious to know
what Mr. [
2656] would think about this and his reading -
though you possibly may be right in not showing it to him. I
wouldn't consider that it meant some specific thing when it
said he had been inclined to trust people too far, but that
this condition might be used as proof of this being true, and
as regards telling one how they may apply themselves, I'm
sure you notice that the theory of the Life Reading is that
will's forces, or the will of an individual, are the ruling
factor, and where an individual has to set themselves - by
the application of their will - for a great period of time,
there is usually not a great deal given as to further
application, other than their drawing a comparison between
their good and bad inclinations, and I shouldn't think it
would mean any special reference to drawing near to the close
of the present experience. But I think it must mean that he
has some special work he has in mind, and has an urge to do,
that is yet to be accomplished, and in the light of this I
think it would be good for him to read same. Wherever there
are many more urges, there usually is the indication of a
very much longer life. Not necessarily a more complex one
- for in practically every instance I think the readings have
been helpful to an individual in PREVENTING the complex.
Yes, the more we know, the less we know. But, applying that
we know, the more we gain...
2/15/33 Wife [
979]'s letter: "Mr. [
2656] had to give up his
work in ... on account of his health, and he has been home
over a year."
3/23/33 "He does not try to work anymore except odd jobs
about the house - is pretty strong and well for a man of his
age - 79."
6/24/36 Wife [
979]'s letter: "Mr. [
2656] passed away June
4th - was only bedfast ten days, altho he has been in poor
health for a year or more. I thank God was good to him in
many ways. He lived to be 82 and one-half years old - was
spared a long illness in bed. Although not well the last
year he would work about the yard and garden, ate and slept
well, so feel God was good to him. He realized he was going
and was conscious up until noon Wed. - died at 6 o'clock
Thurs. morning. This is the second time I have passed 'under
the rod' (as he said) his time had come and was ready to go
when God called. It's hard to adjust this to our mind and
heart and lives - it's like starting life all over again, but
God is my strength and I fear not."
