2/23/42 Grandmother [
1391]'s letter: "The Rdg. came and
everything you said is true about her being supersensitive
and requiring love and patience in her training, all of which
her mother has very little patience with. Of course she
loves her, but [...] is so highstrung she keeps both children
very nervous. We are keeping [
2683] away from school, trying
to build her up for a tonsil operation - she is so rundown.
It seems that in some cases a mother is the last one to see
her child growing weaker. Of course it makes her angry to
tell her so I have to ease along, she is too highstrung to be
as patient as she should be. I hope and pray for the best.
[
2683] is one of the sweetest children I ever saw, loves
animals and all nature, very gifted in music. I think one
thing that has not as yet developed is to be close fisted.
It may show up later, tho now she is most generous in every
way. I know she must have unusual care if she is to be a
well and happy child. She is not so fond of school and her
mother (who was the same way) tries to push her and the Dr.
said take her out of school til a few weeks after the
operation. My daughter is too ambitious and thinks more of
that than their health and happiness. This is not the whim
of a grandmother. It is true. Do not mention this if you
should write me. Only pray that my daughter will realize
what is best for her child."
