5/29/26 EC's letter to [
2749]:
"...Replying to yours of the 25th, I am sorry to know that
you haven't been able to make much out of the Reading. I am
compelled to say this is the FIRST report we have had of this
kind, and I am in hopes, by a little study of same, that you
will be able to find something that will be worthwhile; or,
if I am on the wrong track entirely, I am sure you, with your
knowledge of such phenomena, will be able to assist me in
getting straightened out. Of course you understand I don't
profess to know anything about this subject even. The Life
readings have been a development in the phenomena in the last
three years, and perhaps we have given something less than a
hundred, but each and every report had been so full of praise
that we had been led to believe, by same, that we perhaps
were really helping people. For instance, in the morning
mail I have a letter from a Scotchman who is a healer and has
been the minister of a spiritualist church for the last ten
years. [
2482] He says: 'To say I am pleased with it (the
Reading) is placing it very mildly. In fact it seems hardly
possible that you can give such accurate detail without
having a personal knowledge of the person's inner life. I
have shown it to several, and you can expect to hear from
many from this section of the world. These are certainly
worthwhile.' But I certainly want to thank you for writing
me as you have, for it is well that we be 'jerked up' once in
a while, as it were.
"As regarding the Reading for the young man, we shall
certainly be very glad to try to be of assistance. It would
be necessary, of course, for him to make the application
for this himself, but we would be very glad to send same to
you to inspect before he saw it, if he so desires. We are
anxious to be of help whenever possible, and certainly have
no desire to be of a hindrance in any manner. I certainly
trust that you may arrange this and that we can be of
service..."
