10/15/42 GD's letter to Mr. [

Mr. [

..., N.C.
Dear [
1664]
Mae handed me your letter of the 1st to answer. I am
enclosing an extract from [
2815] Reading outlining the
osteopathic treatments. From this I would say that he should
have twelve to fifteen treatments in the first series, and
then after a rest period from them for two weeks have another
series of ten or twelve. However, just to have the required
number of treatments is not sufficient - they MUST be given
IN THE MANNER as indicated in the Reading. That's why we
first referred him to Dr. Irvin in Norfolk, then to Dr.
Tucker in Raleigh, for both of these men have had experience
with following the Readings and have gotten results by doing
so - at times admitting that they would not have gotten
results, or even treated the patient, without the Reading, as
they did not feel they could reach the source of the trouble.
This young Dr. Higgins may be fine, and if he follows the
Reading okay, but if he doesn't you are just throwing your
money away and wasting time. I've known people who've
had osteopathic treatments for two years without results,
and then go to an osteopath who would follow the Reading
directions and get results very quickly. So, it is important
that he give the treatments exactly as they are indicated in
the Reading. If he does not consider the Reading in making
these treatments, then I'd certainly advise you to go to Dr.
Tucker and give him the Reading directions.
Mae said tell you her name is as you addressed it -
Verhoeven.
Sincerely, [signed] Gladys Davis Secretary to Mr. Cayce
P.S. The treatments should be twice or three times a week,
according to the response the osteopath sees; for instance,
sometimes it might be better to have them close together, and
other times farther apart. It is not so much the number of
treatments that is important but what is accomplished at each
treatment.

Mr. H. L. Cayce

Dear Sir,
I received your letter of October 19 and since that time, I
have started the prescribed treatments by Dr. Tucker. The
doctor I first went to could find nothing wrong with my
dorsals; so he did not follow the reading. Dr. Tucker
noticed some slight maladjustment in the dorsal area after I
called his special attention to that area. As you suggested,
I let both doctors make the preliminary examination before I
showed them the reading. I was quite disappointed when they
did not find any trouble in the 6th & 7th dorsal. Now I am
planning to go through the complete series of treatments.
At the time I had the reading I was working and expected
to continue. Conditions caused me to decide to return to
school. Now I find that I am unable to pay the balance of my
membership fee. AS soon as I possibly can, I shall send you
the balance.
Sincerely, [
