TEXT

1. GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them.
2. EC: Yes, we have the body here, [2944].
3. As we find, the conditions have reached rather serious proportions - or reactions in the body.
4. While as we find these are not entirely hopeless, the extent to which there has been the destruction of tissue involving muscular forces is such that it would require LONG periods before there might be replacements.
5. But these as we find all may be materially aided.
6. This arises from the chemical reactions in the body that have destroyed the tissue in the muscular forces of the extremities, especially.
7. The very nature of these causes inflammation to the bursa in the muscular forces in the extremities, - as in the limbs, hands and arms; causing at times excruciating pain.
8. This will require that some sedative or pain reliever be a part of the treatments. Possibly this may be done in the better manner with the use of the cobra venom, if this would be administered by or under the direction of a physician.
9. But for the chemical changes necessary, there should be begun the small doses of Atomidine; one minim in half a glass of water before the morning meal, every other day increasing the dosage one minim, and continue until at least six minims are being taken.
10. Then at the end of that period give the body a bath in a saturated solution of Epsom Salts; using about ten to twelve pounds of the Epsom Salts in fifty gallons of water. This should be as warm as the body can well stand, and will require the attention of a nurse during the time, for this will be rather severe upon the body in the first and second series of the treatments. But it will allay conditions. The body should be massaged with the solution during the period it is in the bath.
11. After the rubdown following such an Epsom Bath, rub the body down thoroughly with an equal combination of Camphorated Oil and Peanut Oil; and this should be kept up for at least three days - the rub, see? each day for three days, all the body will absorb, along the spine and over the limbs, gently.
12. Then begin again with the Atomidine, keeping it up for ten days, but this time only giving three minims each morning for the ten days.
13. And then give another Epsom Salts Bath, followed by the massages.
14. Then have another ten day period of the Atomidine; this time five drops each day, before the meal is taken.
15. And after the ten days, have the third Epsom Salts Bath.
16. This should determine just how effective these will be.
17. Then they may be left off, the Epsom Baths, for thirty to sixty days (though we would keep the massages daily through that period) and then we find it will be necessary to repeat.
18. As to the diet, - keep away from fats, sugars to any great extent, - having rather the whole cereals, whole grains, black or brown bread; not too much of starches, but rather leafy vegetables and milk.
19. Do these and we should bring better forces for this body.
20. Ready for questions.
21. We are through with this Reading.

BACKGROUND

1. 3/19/43 Mrs. [1855]'s letter to HLC: "I am writing for a friend of mine who is too disparately ill to write herself. I have told her about your father's work and how much good help I personally derived from his reading for me. She has been from one doctor to another and no help. So after hearing how much help I got from your father she is very anxious for him to give her a physical reading as soon as he possibly can. She is suffering so terribly that every minute counts. The doctors say she has arthritis. She is so crippled that she cannot use her arms or hands at all. She is deeply religious and quite psychic with a tremendous faith in the unseen force and the divine. I have filled out an application blank for her, which I had on hand with all the details to the best of my knowledge. If there is anything further you wish to know, please let me know. But please Hugh Lynn have the reading as soon as possible. Enclosed is Miss [2944]'s check for membership... Her questions are: 1. Complete diagnosis for her physical condition. 2. Any remedy that can be prescribed. 3. Any particular diet.
2. 3/22/43 HLC's reply: "I have just received the special delivery containing the application for your friend... I am turning this application over to my father who will write you immediately about the date for an appointment..."
"P.S. Dad has just given me the time of the appointment for your friend. He will give the reading Friday morning March 26th between 10:30 and 11:30. It will be helpful if she will keep this period in meditation and if you have the time, your assistance on it will also be beneficial."
