This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 1st day of April, 1943, in accordance with request made by the self - [2949], new Associate Member of the Ass'n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by the book THERE IS A RIVER.

Present: Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno.

TEXT

1. GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:
2. EC: Yes, we have the body, [2949].
3. As we find, conditions are such that unless there ARE measures taken before long, there will be rather serious troubles to combat.
4. These as we find are rather a complication of disorders, though in the present are rather in their beginnings - or tendencies. There is an unbalancing in the activity of the glandular system, as related to the assimilations.
5. And these are reaching such conditions as to form, in the tendons and sinews, especially of the lower extremities, as well as the hands, a tendency for a drying - or adhering. Thus the tendency for the toes to draw, also for the knuckles of the hands and fingers to enlarge.
6. Through the knees and hips, and at times through the back and the shoulders, there is the heavy, aching; and the general tendencies for all the activities to become easily tiring to the body, and depressing in the mental attitudes and aptitudes of the body.
7. These are the effects of these conditions that are gradually being brought about.
8. Part at times, as in the present, is a neuritic reaction, but in the main it is more in the form of an arthritic reaction. Hence the bursa in the extremities become somewhat inflamed, and that is when there is the more excruciating pain; while those conditions that recur in the body-functionings of the neuritic nature are from disturbances in the colon area.
9. These as we find are the disturbances with this body, [2949] we are speaking of.
10. In making administrations that will be beneficial to the body, - we find that if these will be kept, we may bring much better conditions for the body. After these have been kept and there are better eliminations, then occasionally - not regularly, but occasionally, when there are tendencies for superacidity from some overactivity - or from cold or congestion arising from same, then we would take another course of these treatments as suggested; and we will find it will keep the body better fit for its activities.
11. First, we would begin taking Atomidine. Take one minim in half a glass of water each morning before any meal is taken. Take this dosage each morning for two mornings. On the third morning increase to two drops. And drop with a medicine dropper. Take two drops each day for two days. Then three drops each day for two days, then four drops for two days, then five drops for two days.
12. THEN have an Epsom Salts Bath. Put about ten to twelve pounds of Epsom Salts in fifty gallons of water, as warm as the body may well stand. During the time the body is in this bath, massage the limbs and the extremities especially, - hands, feet, lower limbs, arms especially, but the whole body. The water should be warm, or as hot as can be well stood, and the Epsom Salts thoroughly dissolved before the body gets into same, see? Remain in this bath for at least twenty to thirty minutes.
13. Then shower off, and have a thorough rubdown; stiff, brisk rubdown, and then apply - over the body and the limbs - all the Peanut Oil the body will absorb; pure peanut oil.
14. Leave off the applications then for at least three or four days.
15. Then have a good hydrotherapy treatment; including a mild cabinet sweat, - that is, first a dry heat sweat followed or completed with the fume bath - from the boiling water in the cabinet. To a pint or pint and a half of water, put two teaspoonsful of Witchhazel, and let this boil under the stool on which the body sits in the cabinet, you see, so that the fumes settle over the body.
16. And then have a thorough rubdown.
17. Also have then a colonic irrigation to cleanse the system. This is not to be taken, of course, until the first course of Atomidine and the Epsom Bath.
18. Later, - about three to five days after the hydrotherapy treatment using the fume bath and the colonic irrigation, - we would begin again with the Atomidine, taking a course of it in the same manner, followed by the Epsom Bath, the rubs, and the hydrotherapy, etc., repeating the whole procedure.
19. These - the whole course - we would repeat at least three times, in the same manner as given the first time; having the hydrotherapy - including the sweat or fume bath and colonic - between each complete series.
20. As to the diet, - refrain from much salt upon any of the foods.
21. Refrain from sweets of any great quantity.
22. Refrain from such as potatoes, or macaroni and cheese.
23. Have plenty of fruits, fresh fruits, stewed fruits and the like.
24. Eat plenty of whole grain cereals.
25. Have plenty of fish, and preferably sea foods - or salt water fish and the like; oysters, - all of these as sea foods are well. Not overquantities, ever, - but plenty of all fruits and vegetables, and fish and fowl mostly as meats.
26. Plenty of salads that would combine raw carrots grated with celery and lettuce, but do combine these when taken.
27. And these as we find will bring better conditions to this body [2949].

29. (Q) How may frequent headaches and faulty elimination be corrected?
    (A) These will be a part of the elimination. The headaches, as the more often indicated, are the warning sign of disturbances. These headaches, as we find, come more often from the stomach, AND the incoordination of general eliminations. And these as we find will soon disappear if these treatments and properties are taken; though in the first series there may occur two or three periods of rather severe headaches. The Aspirin tablets with Soda-Mint are preferable as a sedative - or preferable to other sedatives.
30. (Q) Anything else needed to correct faulty eliminations?
    (A) If these massages and hydrotherapy are taken, and the diets corrected, we will find these will be much improved.
    When it is necessary for better eliminations, use - for this body - the Eno Salts; a teaspoonful in a glass of water of mornings before the meal, for periods of five to seven days straight running. This will assist in the eliminations and in purifying, sweetening the breath for the body.
    Do these things, and we will bring better conditions.

BACKGROUND

1. 3/07/43 "I am a business woman and my work is public relations. I contact about 300 people a month which requires more energy than I have to expend. During past few years I have been troubled with a stiffness in my hands and slight enlargement of three of the joints of the fingers of my right hand, also my two large toes are similarly affected. My knees are a little stiff. I may as well tell you that I have been subject to nervous and neuralgic headaches all my life. I have been to various doctors but they have never been able to find the cause or prescribe a cure. They usually suggested a long rest from my work, which I could not afford.
   "For years I have wanted to be a healer, a channel for the healing forces of the living Christ. There are times when I am clairvoyant consciously. Over a period of the last ten years I have seen hands, sometimes feminine, sometimes masculine, sometimes a beautiful hand, then again the hand of a workman. I have wondered what it meant. Could it be connected with the stiffness that is creeping into my hands?
