4/06/43 Miss [
2960]'s ltr. to EC:
Mr. Edgar Cayce,
Association for Research and Enlightenment,
Arctic Crescent,
Virginia Beach, Virginia
Dear Mr. Cayce:
I have just received your most welcome letter, and can never
possibly tell you how grateful I am that you were able to
give me such an early appointment. I realize that since
this book has been published you must be overwhelmed with
requests for readings. I know that if I hadn't already made
an application for a reading, that book would certainly have
made me want one.
I have not only read Mr. Sugrue's book intently, but I have
actually absorbed it. Every word has meant something for me.
For months I have felt that I stood at the crossroads, not
knowing which road to take or which way to go. I have almost
gone completely insane, because this indecision, this not
being sure of which is right and which is wrong is more than
the human mind can stand. Finally, Mrs. [
808] told me about
you and your wonderful works. I realized that if anyone on
this earth could help me, you were that person. Mrs. [
808]
practically combed every bookshop in Washington to get me
the book that I might read through it and understand the
beautiful philosophy of life it portrayed. As I read through
it, all of the unrest and turmoil seemed to leave me. I felt
at peace and knew in my heart that this reading would be the
answer to my problem. Since then, I have just been living
for that reading. My life is just standing still, marking
time, as it were, until you can tell me which way to turn.
Either way, I realize that my entire life will have to be
readjusted, and I am willing to follow whatever you might
say is right, in order to restore my former peace of mind.
But now, no matter what happens, I can truthfully say that
I am no longer afraid. I was afraid, horribly afraid, of
what the future might bring. I seemed to have lost the way,
lost sight of God and all that He stands for. It seemed as
if all of the light and beauty just went out of life, and
left me nothing but a maze of questions and doubt. But now
all is different. I have faith in God, in you, and in
myself. I know that now I will have courage to face the
future and whatever it may bring and to struggle to do what
is right in the sight of God and of man.
I assure you, that on the morning of April 12th, I shall
spend the hour from 10 to 11 in my Church, in prayer and
supplication. I know that with your guidance and that which
comes from the belief and faith in the Divine Power, I shall
find my way out of this situation.
Again, let me thank you from the bottom of my heart for
giving me so freely of your precious time. May God bless
you, and keep you well and strong so that you may continue
to help others who might find themselves in the same position
that I now find myself. For it is through you, and your
divine vision that we can find our way through this life
and finally achieve the success and happiness that is meant
to be ours.
Thanking you again, I remain,
Respectfully yours, [
2960]

4/14/43 EC's ltr. to Miss [
2960]:
Dear Miss [
2960]:
Hope you find the information attempted for you of interest,
and most of all, something as answers to a something within
your self; if not, forget it. But if there is anything as
tells you the information is right, please for your own sake
give the suggestions an honest try, and believe you, like
many others, will bless the day you had the reading.
Not that there is any thing in me personally as is even
good, but the information as comes through me has so many
years proven to be a helpful influence for so many
thousand[s], that it must be worthwhile.
Hoping to have been the means of a service in the name of the
Christ.
Sincerely [signed] Edgar Cayce
4/17/43 Aunt [
808]'s letter:
Now about [
2960]'s reading. Thanks so much for sending me
the copy. I prayed and prayed in that Church that the
information might come through to her in such a way that
she couldn't interpret it anyway except the way it was
supposed to be, and there is not one thing in there that
could be questioned as to what it might mean. It told her
in a beautiful way what was what, and after I read it I
almost wept. I received it Thursday night with the original
and her letter and I didn't have any idea where to get in
touch with her. No one had heard from her since that
morning I ran into her. I prayed all day yesterday that she
would call me or that I would accidentally bump into her,
and believe it or not but around 3:00 o'clock yesterday
afternoon I suddenly thought how wonderful it would be
if she just walked in my office and so help me five minutes
later she did. I could hardly believe it when I saw her and
thought that I had her on my mind so much I must be seeing
a mirage. It was a queer feeling. Anyway, I gave her your
letter at first and she opened it, read it and was very
pleased with it. She handed it over to me to read. Then
she opened her reading - She immediately turned to the
questions on the back and said "Oh, my father was my
husband in my last life and I broke up our home." She
read on and made some other comment, and asked me to come
read it with her. I got around to the back of her and she
was shaking so with excitement I couldn't have read anything.
Someone walked in my office at that time and I asked her
to meet me tonight for dinner and we would go over it
together. She agreed and said she would call me today and we
could arrange to meet. She called a little while ago while I
was out, doggone it, and said she would call again. So I
think she does want to see me and let me read it. No indeed
she won't be mad with you - She knows that every word in that
reading is the truth and the way it is told to her is almost
like God speaking to her Himself. And, she expected a bad
reading because she and [
1935] were talking about it one day
and she said "no matter how bad her reading was she was going
to keep it forever and always be thankful that you gave her
your precious time." I only wish she would follow it, but
I'm not planning on it too much. I am going to see her as
much as she wants me to, and to try to show her how she can
obtain happiness even yet if she will do as you say. If I
still can't get her to do it - Well, I won't feel that I
wasted my time.
I will let you know, however, what her reaction is after I
see her. I'm not going to press her with questions, but just
let her talk. If she doesn't want to tell me anything, we
will just discuss the reading. Before I couldn't tell her
she was doing wrong - She didn't believe me. Now she has
the facts in front of her and she knows they are true facts.
So it's really up to her.
I do want to thank you, however, for giving her that early
appointment and for your help. You don't know how much that
meant to me. I only hope that it means that much to her. I
feel better too than I have felt in weeks now that she has
her reading. I feel as though a great load has been taken
off my shoulders. So thanks a million times.
Must quit - Hope everything there is well and
Lots of love, [
808]
4/19/43 Aunt [
808]'s letter:
I could hardly wait to write you this morning and tell you
about my visit with [
2960] Saturday night. She was at the
restaurant when I got there and reading her reading so
intently. The first thing she said after greeting me was
"I made a copy for you Aunt [
808], so left the original
home". I asked her how it was, and she said "pretty bad
but I love every word of it because I know he was telling
me the truth and couldn't have told me any different."
During dinner she told me parts of it, practically word
for word, and said she wished I had opened it and read it
when I received it. I told her I wanted her to have the
thrill of opening it herself. She said she had read it
over and over again since she received it and couldn't seem
to tire of reading it. After dinner we went to the park and
went over it word for word. She explained parts of it to me
that I didn't understand, and said she was living a parallel
to her last life, but there was a lot of hope for her in the
reading in spite of what she has done. She said she was
going to request a check reading on that period and by the
time she got her appointment she would have the money to pay
for it. I told her it would be alright as long as she paid
before the date her reading was to be given. One thing
worried her and that is her birth date was given wrong on
the reading. She wondered if that made any difference.
I know you must have had her right birthday or you wouldn't
have gotten records so perfectly, but I think she would
like to have it corrected on her reading. Her birthday,
I believe, was right on her application [
11/28/22]. It is
sometime in November and the reading gave it in February.
I told her I would write you about it. I hope I didn't give
it wrong on her application. She gave me the information
over the telephone and I made out her application and then
she signed it and sent it. I hope I had it right.
She hadn't been working and I gathered was pretty much
crushed after I met her on the street and she lost her job,
but she was to go to work this morning and seemed to be right
pleased about it. I didn't ask her where she was living
because I think right now if she is left alone, she will
work it out for herself. I am going to write her mother
today and tell her that I saw her and what the reading
said (she has given me permission to send a copy to her
mother and my sister) and ask her to leave her alone as
I feel it would be better right now. [
2960] is scared to
death what they might do to her and I think that is the
reason she didn't even get in touch with me. She is going
to call me though and have dinner with me during the week.
Everybody in the family that knows about this thinks I am
crazy to hope that she will do what the reading says, but
I do feel that she will and I am going to help her do it.
I will also feel that she will and I am going to help her
do it. I will also see her anytime she wants me to. I
might be able to help her work it out and even then if
she doesn't follow it, I won't feel that my time was wasted.
[
2960] was so proud of the time when she was a holy woman and
was associated with the Master. [Handwritten note on side
of letter: She also was proud of her association with you
in Persia. She said you saved her in that life TOO.] That
is why she has been so religious in this life and why she
suffers so terribly when she did this other thing. If she
was just plain bad, it wouldn't have affected her like it
did. And as you said in the reading she would turn to good
each time after and then when he came into the picture again
she would turn her back on it, to have it worse after that.
Oh, you told her beautifully what the set-up is and will be
if she doesn't follow the reading. You don't know what a
relief it is to me too. Before she knew she was hurting
everyone that was dear to her but felt that their love was
above everything else and was right - Now she knows how wrong
and awful it is for her, and if she still does it, I feel
that she is destroying herself knowingly, and I don't think
she will do that.
4/23/43 Aunt [
808]'s letter:
I have a million things to tell you and don't know where to
begin. First of all I saw [
2960] last night and she very
willingly told me everything. She said after she was fired
and felt that she had nothing further to live for, she
thought of committing suicide, but the reading prevented
her from doing that. She wanted to see if it gave her any
hope. So she waited until the day that she thought I would
have it and then came in to get it. She said she hasn't seen
this man since the day that I ran into them. She went to the
Station and since that time he knows not where she is.
She said when she got the reading, she knew then that she
must keep herself "among the missing" as far as he was
concerned. She didn't want to be put in the position of
being under his influence again and take the chance of
weakening. So she didn't tell anyone where she was living.
The day that she got the reading from me she went to see
about a job and got the job. She likes it ever so much and
from what I understand has spent practically all her spare
time in Church. She was telling me of the different churches
she has been to and the different preachers she has heard.
She saw "King of Kings" Sunday might at the Presbyterian
Church. You recall that is the story of Jesus Christ. She
said she had never been so moved in her life as she was when
he said "Neither do I condemn thee, but go and sin no more".
That had been quoted twice in her reading, and she said she
felt as though Christ was saying that to her Himself. Edgar,
I do wish you would read her reading sometime. Honestly,
that girl is like a different person. Somehow within me I
know she is telling me the truth. I haven't asked her any
questions and she need only to tell me the things that she
wanted to, so I am sure would have not said anything at all
rather than lie to me about it. I know she is sincere and
is trying with all her heart to do as the reading tells her
to. She told me too that she didn't trust herself so thus
the reason she didn't want this [...] to know where she was.
And you know her reading is so perfectly frank about her that
no one reading it would have any doubts about what she was
doing, but she is so proud of it and practically knows it
by heart. There isn't one part in it that I read what she
can't tell me without looking word for word what it says.
She says she never gets tired of reading it. She told me
that as soon as she got her feet financially she was going
to make an appointment for a check reading on the last life
which she is living parallel to. She said she would much
rather have a check on the time when she was with the Master,
but she felt that she needed this other first so she could
be guided accordingly - then, when that has been worked out,
she wants to have the one on when she was a holy woman. She
said the first one would be more depressing because of what
she did, and the second one very uplifting, but she wanted
to have the one that would help her most at this time. She
couldn't talk like she does if she wasn't sincere about it.
Even if she ever does weaken again and fall back to such
degradation, and may the Lord help her so she doesn't do
that, I know that she is sincere right now in what she is
trying to do.
4/23/43 Aunt [
808]'s letter:
As to her birth date - I'm afraid that was entirely my fault.
She gave it to me over the telephone and to save time I typed
it for her. I don't know where I got the February 25 date
as I know her birthday is in November. However, in my rush
I apparently typed the wrong date. It apparently didn't
make any difference in her case, as her reading couldn't
have been more fitting under any circumstances and she knows
it. It is definitely her and no one else!!!! I can vouch
for that. But, she did want to get the records corrected,
and I suggested that she change the date on her reading
accordingly. Should I write a note to Gladys and have
it corrected in the records? I feel terrible in having
made such a mistake, but I am so glad it didn't make any
difference in the information that came through. Perhaps
it didn't make any difference because it was so
unintentional. I will find out the correct date and send it
to Gladys if you think it a good idea.
[Handwritten note:] I just talked to [
2960] over the
telephone & the date of her birth is November 28, 1922.
There are so many things about [
2960]'s reading that were so
extremely interesting. The one reincarnation that she is so
terribly proud of is the time when she was in the Holy Land
with the Master. She was in close association with Him and
later became one of the Holy Woman [Women?]. That probably
is the reason for her religiousness in this life. Up until
she met this man she was so faithful to her religion and it
meant everything to her. And her reading indicated that
would be the thing that would save her now.
Another thing she was so proud of - She told me before she
had the reading that after reading your book and seeing your
picture she felt sure she had been closely associated with
you sometime and that you had saved her before. Sure enough
in the Hills and the Plains (or whatever it is called) her
life was questioned by others as well as herself, but then
she came in contact with Ujtht [Uhjltd] (that is spelled
wrong I know) and in her work in the hospital and doing
for others she became quite powerful and apparently gained
quite a bit. She just loved both of those reincarnations.
However her last life was just the same as this. She was
married to [...] who is her father in this life (who has
always questioned her and never trusted her even when she
was small and thus her reason for asking the question about
him). She broke up their home when she met this [...] and
ran away with him. She finally committed suicide, which,
if it hadn't been for this reading she probably would have
done in this life.
Isn't it funny how it all weaves together? I think her
reading is one of the most interesting I have ever read,
and it certainly doesn't leave anything in your mind to
question. I read it over and over - If she will only follow
it, I think she will do a lot of good and help a lot of other
people. She wants to do it too - She wants to feel that she
can help someone. It indicated that she and I were closely
associated in the last life (we haven't decided how because
she was in the place of her present sojourn which would be
Washington, D.C.). However, when she ran away with this
[...] she might have gone to the Mohawk Valley and I might
have tried to help her then. She is going to ask that in
her check.
5/11/43 Aunt [
808]'s letter:
Received your letter last night and it sure was perfectly
timed as I was feeling pretty much in the dumps. I had
found out something yesterday that was pretty hard to take,
and I really don't know what to do now. [
2960] is living
with this [...] and that is the reason she wouldn't tell
me where or give me the telephone number. She had been
lying to me everytime she had seen me and I believed every
word that she told me, not for one minute thinking she would
do a thing like that. It is funny how each time she lies to
me, the truth is practically dumped in my lap without me even
moving a finger. Billie, my sister, and I are the only ones
that know about it - We aren't going to tell anyone. Of
course, you don't matter. Helen doesn't know either that
we know about it. Billie said she felt right along that
that was what she was doing but didn't want to say anything
to me because I was so sure that she was doing the right
thing, and she also hoped that she might be wrong. Of
course, I'm still not going to do anything to hurt her
and will meet her anytime or see her, but don't know what
to do. Should I let her know that I know - I couldn't
meet her and pretend and listen to her lies to me. I just
couldn't do it! Then too I don't want her to be adding to
her karma by lying to me - I would rather not see her at
all. I don't think she wanted to lie to me because she
has avoided me only except on occasions when she had to
see me - the first time the reading, and the next times
she needed money as it will be a month before she will be
paid, and of course she probably felt she had to tell me
something, as I was so hopeful that everything would be
alright after she had the reading. That really hurts,
but I know only too well that I'm not nearly as hurt as
she will be. [Handwritten note: That's what bothers me so
terrible. If she doesn't wake up soon, something awful is
going to happen to her. I just know it. Well, I can only
hope and pray that it will still have some effect on her.]
6/15/43 See
808-19, Par. 43-A advising to hold the bond of
sympathy with her.
6/26/43 Aunt [
808]'s letter: "I called [
2690]'s office
and found she is no longer with them. She left with her
'husband', I was told. He is a major in the Engineer Corps
and had been sent to La. So she gave up her job and went
with him! No address, so I can't get in touch with her.
I'm hoping she will contact me but under the circumstances
I rather doubt this. My heart goes out to her, and wish I
could do something to help her in the wretched mess she is
making of her life. But she has to learn the hard way like
so many."
10/44 Routine mailing was returned marked "MOVED".
3/24/50 In answer to inquiry, Mrs. [
808] reported that
Miss [
2960] did not listen to her or the reading but went
away with the married man to California.
