Time and Place: 11:00 to 11:25 A. M. Eastern War Time. ..., California.

GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:
EC: Yes, we have the body here, [2968].
As we find, while conditions are not necessarily unchangeable, there have been many administrations which have been, at least, unmindful of the real source or cause of the disturbance.
These arise, we find, - the sources of the trouble, - in the first place, - from two causes. As we find, this is NOT a true effect of infantile paralysis, but is a combination of an injury to the spine of such natures as to cause high temperatures that affected the supply of nutriment to the body-forces. And with the injury, and not being properly aligned after the injury, there was caused not only a dis-ease in the spinal column but the loss of the use of the locomotory centers. And those reflexes are partially registered on brain reflexes.
Now these, as we find, may be materially aided. It will require time, patience, persistence, expectancy on the part of the body, and prayerful application of those things suggested that may create in the body-forces that necessary for creating a greater number of energies or elements in the energies of the body that are attuned to the divine conscience.
First, know this - in thy inner self:
YE CAN be a channel of blessings to others, whatever may be thy physical state, - provided there is the application of that which is known within self of the divine manifesting through a material chamber.
Thy body is indeed the temple of the living God. Hold to that. By might and main of the mind, attempt to make the best, the most beautiful, the most acceptable temple according to thy concept of a living Christ-Consciousness. Hold to that. Let no one, in any manner, take that from you.
Then apply, in an expectant manner, those measures which will aid the body-forces to create within self those influences necessary for this building of the body to a beautiful temple to thy God.
The world and the earth, and all that is in it, are the Lord's. Use those forces, then, in physics, in pathology, in ALL forces pertaining to body building.
That nerves have been crushed, that they might be made to work against existent conditions, is rather crude - considered in the light of that given. It is self-evident that it will not be possible in the beginning to release those nerves that are pinched, where curvatures exist in the spine. But these may be GRADUALLY changed. For each cycle, every element, every condition must renew itself; else there becomes or is set up greater deterioration than creation. And each element, each organ, each functioning of the body throughout, is capable of reproducing itself. How?
Not merely from the ability of the glands to take from that assimilated those elements needed, but in each atom, in each corpuscle, is life. Life is that ye worship as God.
If God be with you, and you choose to use those elements in His creation that cause each atom, each corpuscle, to become more and more aware of that creative influence, there may then be brought resuscitation. May there not be created, then, health rather than disease, disorder, confusion?
Then:
Daily, for at least half to an hour and a half, massage the body; not rudely, not crudely, not with the attempt to make adjustments - for many weeks yet. Massage with Peanut Oil, - yes, the lowly Peanut Oil has in its combination that which will aid in creating in the superficial circulation, and in the superficial structural forces, as well as in the skin and blood, those influences that make more pliable the skin, muscles, nerves and tendons, that go to make up the assistance to structural portions of the body. Its absorption and its radiation through the body will also strengthen the activities of the structural body itself.
Use twice each day in the beginning, but only five minutes at each period, the low electrical vibration produced through a Dry Cell Battery - for this body - carrying into the body, vibratorially, the element of Gold; in the proportions of one grain Chloride of Gold to one ounce of Distilled Water - and use three ounces.
The attachment plates should be one of nickel and one of copper, but these attached to the extremities of the body; the wrist and the ankle on opposite sides of the body. The plates should be kept very clean, or polished before and after using, and disconnected from the solution and from the Battery when not in use. Do keep the anodes clean. One time attach to the right wrist, left ankle, the next time to the left wrist and right ankle, and so on.
Change the Gold Solution every fifteen days.
Obtain a new Battery (and this is the Dry Cell, you see) every forty days.
Following the use of the Appliance, have the rub. Massage the limbs, as well as the spine; this including the hands as well as feet. Take the time to do this.
Then in sixty days we would give further instructions.
In the diets, - keep rather the normal diet.
To be sure, choices must be made by the body. All of this suggested treatment may be administered at home, if it is the desire of the mother to take care of these conditions - not as disregarding what has been done, but know thy Redeemer liveth, and He is in every atom as ye think it. For, with what think ye? Not your brain, but with life itself!

(Q) Should I discontinue the treatments I am having at the California Institute of Technology?
(A) As indicated, choices must be made. If there would be the better results, take these as given here.
(Q) Will it be possible for me to be well enough by September to attend university?
(A) By February it will, at least - if there is the consistent use of these suggestions for treatments that we have made here, and the changes - of course - that we will indicate as progress is made.
(Q) Will the derotation exercise help if I do it?
(A) Just do these as suggested here, for the next sixty days, and then we would give further instructions - in sixty days.

BACKGROUND

4/02/43 Letter from [2968] to EC:
...The date of April 21 for the reading will be entirely satisfactory. At the time I shall undoubtedly be home in bed.
I wish to thank you for your letter. I enjoyed it so much. As soon as it is possible, I should like to obtain a Life reading, also. How shall I go about it? Shall I fill in the second blank in the booklet and duplicate the procedure for a physical reading?
I am delighted that I can have a reading so soon. I did not really expect it for some time.
I shall list some questions to be asked!
1. Did I really have infantile paralysis? My mother has always thought that it was the result of a fall. My leg has not withered as do the limbs of so many victims. 1-1/2. What caused it, and why was I so afflicted? 2. What can be done about the curvature of my spine? Will the derotation exercise help if I do it? Will my back ever be straight? 3. Is the hard place in my stomach really my spine? Can it be corrected and has it done a permanent harm? If so, what? 4. Is my foot "dead" as the doctor said he feared? Why can I not use that leg when it appears so nearly normal? 5. What can I do for my left thumb? Is not normal and is a definite handicap, especially in playing the piano. 6. Is it possible for me to be well enough by September to attend university? I want so much to. 7. Will the treatment I am having at the California Institute of Technology be successful or helpful?
If medicines or special apparatus are recommended, please tell us where we may obtain them.
I want to thank you again, Mr. Cayce. I have an absolute faith in you and will follow your directions implicitly. I don't question my faith in you any more than I question the faith I have had in reincarnation since I was a child.

4/12/43 Mother's letter: "[2968] is dated for a reading soon. As her mother, I wondered if I might ask a question: What caused it and why was she so afflicted?
"I have never felt that her coming to this world was just a usual event. I wanted that child more than anything in life and my one and only prayer was that he or she would be a blessing in this world.
"When 3 yrs. old she was stricken with pneumonia and with her father ill in a veterans' hospital with tuberculosis, the doctor held out no hope for [2968]. Somehow I lost all fear. I knew she wouldn't be taken away. She was healed - very miraculously, - the doctor said. He said I didn't know what I had to thank God for. Truly I knew even better than he what I had to thank God for. I knew it was thru my faith and absolute lack of fear. Somehow I had 'touched the hem of the garment.'
"Her father passed away that same year. Four years later [2968] was stricken with what they have called infantile paralysis. Gradually over the years I have fallen in with their belief, but at first I didn't accept it. I thought she was injured at school, having struck the spine at the back of the neck, on the hard ground while playing a game.
"If I hadn't taken the children to the ranch where she was at the time she took sick, it wouldn't have happened. Thinking it a spine injury, I took her to the chiropractor which was the worse thing I could have done, I was told. When fear of the doctors and impending operations had her scared to death, we quit and turned to Christian Science, another wrong step and injustice to her, I was told. I have tried everything possible, it seems. The latest was coming here to California where a couple of doctors took her under their care for special treatments. She has improved but what is the outcome?
"I have always believed in healing and interested in the various methods of reaching the same objective. They have occurred in all ages, all cults, all creeds and isms. Faith to me seems the 'bridge.' Yet when we live with a condition year after year it seems to become terribly real to us. So many times I felt at the end of our rope, and then another attempt and another. Maybe this is the extremity and God's opportunity. I have tried so hard to seek spiritual guidance and yet if I hadn't had faith in the ultimate Good, life would truly have seemed a 'mockery.' And I keep wondering at the why of it all.
"And now we come to you. But in coming to you we feel we are contacting a higher than human source of intelligence for which you have given yourself as a channel. We have said nothing to the doctors about this step. But surely an intelligence that can diagnose an ailment can also diagnose a cure and the method of attainment. These doctors are very sincere in their efforts to serve humanity, more so than the medical profession as a whole which has already capitalized on this. The one doctor is now in the Naval Reserve but detained here to carry on the work he started while in private practice and for which he is only receiving his navy fee. The other doctors are nerve specialists doing research work at California Institute of Technology. She has been under their care since last May when they performed the operation of incisions to crush the nerve ends to stimulate growth and thus feed the muscles.
"I am telling you this as I feel you should know it. Is there any harm in having a reading while still under their care? I have thought it over from all angles - should I tell them - let them read the book - would they believe - are they too materialistic - would they believe if they saw the diagnosis - would they cooperate - should we act independently - or what?
"A life at stake - I feel she has a right to seek freedom. Our coming here to California which finally led us to you was not just accidental. Everything, as I see it now, seems to have led up to this. I'll trust this intelligence to guide us further.
"Thank you for your life of devotion that has made you a fit channel for this marvelous service to your fellowman. May God bless you richly."

REPORTS

5/10/43 Mother's letter to EC: "...Although I am very tardy in answering your letter in regard to the reading, we immediately took steps to carry out your instructions and the battery, we have been notified, is already on its way. We had a very nice letter from Mr. Godfrey.
"[...] is just up and around after being quite sick for a week or more. I am gone from home twelve hours a day on a defense job and with trying to care for her too my time was very much taken up.
"As to the reading - it bore out the belief I have had since she took sick and we certainly are going to cooperate and follow your suggestions regardless of the doctors. I haven't paid anything to them as yet. They are doing nothing to her at present. She is just recuperating from the terrible bruising she has had. In the meantime we are going on with the rubbing and vibration treatment until your next reading for her. If you haven't already reserved an hour for that please do so.
"We feel very grateful for your interest and work for your fellow-men as a whole and your personal interest is evident in each individual case. I hope that good book is going to reach a good many more needy people and the good work may go on..."
6/09/43 Mother's letter to EC: "...Another physical reading is soon due for [2968], I think. Has a definite date been set? I believe the two months are up around the 21st of June. I wrote regarding a life reading for her too thinking it might help to solve the problem and point the way for her.
"She is becoming very impatient as time draws near. It seems to be like living in a prison with a ray of hope for release.
"You mentioned 'brain reflexes' in your reading. Could that account for violent fits of temper from seemingly slight provocations that I'm sure aren't good for her and make life almost unbearable for the rest of us. There is a nervous tension somewhere.
"Could we arrange for a life reading also?
"Kindly advise at earliest convenience. Thank you kindly...
"P.S. The second battery received a couple of days ago. [2968] is following directions very carefully. There are some more questions I would like to ask before the next reading..."
6/22/43 [2968]'s letter to EC: "...I've been intending to write you and thank you for your kindness so far to us. I have appreciated it very much. As for the Reading, I've followed the instructions implicitly and have every faith in them. The circulation in my leg is much better, as evidenced by the fact that it does not discolor any more as it always has. I assure you I shall continue to follow the Readings to the letter. We have received a second battery for the appliance and have been using it. Mr. Godfrey has been most accommodating and thoughtful.
"As to questions for the check Reading, I have a few.
1. If and when you recommend adjustments, do you specify any particular person to give them - if so, whom? 2. If I follow instructions religiously, could it be at all possible for me to start school in September, instead of February? 3. Haven't the sunbaths been helpful, besides the rubs and electrical treatments? 4. Can and will my back be straight? How long will it take? Can I do any exercises for it? 5. I am getting a new back brace that will hold me much straighter. Won't that be helpful? 6. I shall, of course, have no manuals done in the future, but have these that have been done, been detrimental? 7. Will the adjustments be gradual, or will I notice immediate results?
