7/08/80 Mrs. [
2985]'s daughter's letter to GD:
"You requested that I write a human interest story that you
might publish. I had not gotten around to doing it; so, when
my oldest son, Danny, came home this summer after graduating
from pharmacy school, he offered to write it. This he has
done and I am enclosing it in this letter. You may edit it
or add to it in any way you see fit... If it is used, please
let me know where and the date so I will be sure to read it.
"We look forward to seeing you soon."
FOLLOWUP OF READING 2985-1
For years I had believed that my mother's half-sister, Bayard
Wootten, a Theosophist and photographer of Chapel Hill North
Carolina, had had a life reading by Edgar Cayce. As she had
been involved with many clairvoyants and left an enduring
philosophical heritage with my family, I was most interested
in learning of any reading for her by Mr. Cayce. I was also
aware that he had given a physical reading during the early
1940's for my mother, Celia Moulton Lively, a photographer of
New Bern North Carolina. I was a child at the time and these
matters were discussed only among the adults in my family.
On Mother's Day, May 1980, my second son Steve and I drove to
Virginia Beach and spent the evening in the home of Mrs.
Rogers. The following morning we were unable to locate any
reading for Mrs. Wootten. We were informed that "Gladys
Davis Turner, Mr. Cayce's secretary, may be able to help".
I am named after my mother Celia. Due to her truly
incredible memory, Ms. Turner associated the names Bayard
Wootten with Celia Lively, my mother. We obtained not only
my mother's reading but a series of letters dating from March
1943 to Oct. 1944 that touched the lives of my
great-grandfather "Dad" Lively of McMinnville, Tenn., who had
Edgar Cayce in his first photography class, included several
old family acquaintances and gave insight into the physical
debilitation leading to my mother's death in 1975.
My half-aunt was concerned for my mother's health after a
clairvoyant friend, Hope Chamberlain, told her in 1943 that
she was "grave about the abdominal conditions" she sensed
regarding my mother. In point of fact, my mother's debility
leading to her death began in earnest with a perforation of
the colon, not associated with carcinoma, leading to acute
peritonitis in October of 1970 for which she underwent
emergency surgery.
Mother followed the advice of Mr. Cayce for a couple of years
after her reading [2985-1 of
4/29/43] and reversed the
fatigue, nausea, vertigo and weight loss she had acquired
prior to the reading. She was 45 at the time and some of the
symptoms were undoubtedly related to menopause. Cayce found
"a great deal of disturbance through the periods of the
change in the activities of the glandular forces". He
recommended osteopathic adjustments for the posture, a
proprietary medicine Tonicine, and, significantly in regard
to later developments, an increase in food fiber content.
In the diet keep away from too much of starches...take
much of the foods...such as poke salad... If three to
four stalks of the Irish potato tops are put with the
poke salad, it will be most beneficial. Eat vegetables
of all characters, but principally the leafy variety.
Celery, lettuce and the like; radishes, carrots - these
raw and cooked, - all of these would be well for the
body. [2985-1]
The reading was given April 29, 1943 and Mrs. Wootten wrote
Mr. Cayce in September of 1944: "She followed your
directions and her health is very much improved".
Mrs. Wootten did not receive the life reading she wanted as
by later correspondence of Fall 1944 he was too ill. Mr.
Cayce's advice to my mother may well have extended her life
roughly 30 years. The rediscovery of this association was
uplifting for me and my whole family.
