5/15/53 Miss [
3053] wrote a "religion term paper" about
Edgar Cayce and sent us extracts from it reporting on her
asthma cure [See
3053-4] and helpfulness of her Life Reading
[3053-3]:
[Comments re first paragraph of the reading [3053-3,
Par. 3]]:
This statement just given is quite pertinent, because for
many years I did get very upset about things not going well,
especially in my practicing [music] etc.,...phrases wouldn't
come and it has to do with the terrific inferiority complex
that I had up to just a few years ago. But the reading
carries on with some things that were tied up so closely
with my sense of inferiority.
[She then presents the rest of that same paragraph beginning
with "This is not intended to imply..."]:
And truly, all my life I have been considered "different".
I had different ideas and interests than children my own
age (I started school a year earlier than my own natural
age group). Since I was an only child, and having many,
many interests, I was able to entertain myself,...I had
associated with other people more...wore my hair differently
and people were always trying to get me to cut it, etc, ad
infinitum. In my early days it hurt me very, very much.
In the past 2 years I have come to the point where I can
go about my life not being hurt by what people think, or
be afraid of doing what I feel is right, even if it be
different from the usual way of doing things.
The marvelous thing about the reading is that you can grow
to it all your life. With each "reading through" you can
see how something else in it applies, or understand something
you didn't understand before...
[[
3053] then copies the reading through the paragraph
beginning with "The interpretation..." [Par. 10]]:
Here we have the first mention of music. Mr. C. did not
know that I was particularly interested in music. I don't
believe he even knew that I was taking piano at the time.
I had started piano when I was seven. I have made the
chart as suggested and it is rather as a reminder of the
relationship of things in my life.
[She then copies the next paragraph beginning with "Music
should be the life giving flow..." [Par. 12]]:
And I have certainly come to other instruments. I studied
the piano for about 9 years and then I took up the harp
too. Since I've come to college I've studied most of the
other types of instruments as a part of my curriculum as a
public school music major.
[She then copies the reading up to the first appearance
given - her and through the first paragraph of that
appearance [Par. 13] and makes the following report]:
Though it is slightly varied in this year's college
catalogue, in the one a few years ago the description
of the Moravian Church was almost word for word the same
as the description of the "strange people" in the reading.
It is most meaningful to me that I did choose ... [N.C]
as the college I would attend. The minute mother and Dad
and I drove up here in 8/of/49, so Father could see the
college, it all seemed so familiar to me. The architecture,
the atmosphere, all was nothing at all strange, and in the
fall of my sophomore year I joined the home Moravian Church,
and I was born in Phila, Penn., the state that is the main
center of Moravians in the U.S.
[She continues to copy the reading and at the end of this
incarnation [Par. 21] continues with the following comment]:
From early childhood I have been interested in dramatics,
to the point that this past year I was president of the
Drama club. I also did some work as director of some
dramatic bit, and as assistant director of the opera,
the Medium - produced here on campus. My major, as I
have said, was public school music and I will be working
with the children.
[She continues to copy the reading through the Palestine
period [Par. 22--25] and then comments]:
My, how I do, and have always liked to stay up late. And
this is something that it would be practically impossible
for Mr. C. to have known unless he were a very close friend
of the family.
[She copies the rest of this incarnation [Par. 26--28] then
comments]:
Here again it mentions working with children. All my life
I have enjoyed working with children. I helped as a
Bible-school aid as a girl scout-aide and as assistant
teacher in Sunday school, and have always enjoyed just being
with children.
[She copies through into the next incarnation to where it
states "Routine, then, means much to the entity - mostly
to be broken," [Par. 29--31] and then comments]:
I couldn't have described it any better myself. I do like
things to go in a routine and yet I dislike being held down
to the same sort of routine over and over again, or have it
impressed upon me that such is a necessity, etc.
[She continues to copy rdg. through rest of that incarnation
[Par. 31] and comments]:
In everything I do, it is so much much easier for me if I
can see a purpose and keep that purpose in mind. When the
purpose is not made clear, I have difficulty in accomplishing
that thing, or learning something from it.
[She continues to copy rdg. through Egyptian incarnation
[Par. 32--37] and comments]:
Ever since I was a little girl I have liked to dance around
in the way I would feel. If I heard some music over the
radio, it would usually make me want to get right up and
dance. That feeling has grown a great deal in the past
four years. At college I was active in the modern dance
club and did some choreographing for the May Day dances.
[She continues to copy the reading up to the questions
[Par. 38--40] and then comments]:
It is just recently that I have felt that I have found
myself in purpose and ideal. I try to do what I believe
is right and not be worried by what people might think.
And, as a result, I am much more able to meet things as
they come up. At an earlier period I felt I knew what I
believed, and what I wanted, etc., but so much of that
belief was in a form of vague suppositions, rather than
being able to say more definitely what I believe. Having
gone through a period of doubt and uncertainty and other
matters, I can say that my beliefs are stronger and I am
surer of what they are.
[She then copies questions 1 thru 6 [Par. 41-A--46-A]:
Question two [Par. 42-A] has proved very true. When a
3053-3 Pagae 4
teacher holds me back because she feels I haven't been on a
piece long enough, I don't do very well. But if I can go on
ahead as fast as I can grasp something, then it is easier for
me to get each successive part.
Ques. 4 [Par. 44-A] brought about some unusual experiences,
definitely on the spiritual side that are too complicated
to enumerate here, but it has had bearing on my development.
My photography hobby has been one of my greatest interests,
and the work has been rather successful too. And, here at
college the majority of my courses have been music, and the
rest are all good to know.
Since the information given in the physical readings turned
out to be valid, and so much of the life reading fit, it is
only natural that I would accept the rest of the teachings,
as I understand them. And the idea of reincarnation has many
things to back it up. Many times I have gone places where
I knew certain things were, knew how it would look, but in
this lifetime had never been there before. People I meet
for the first time I feel that I have known before and THEY
FEEL THE SAME WAY TOO. I could never have known them before
in this lifetime.
These are the reasons that I have come to believe in
reincarnation. Not in the transfer of one soul from a
human body to an animal body, which is transmigration,
but that we are to come back in several lives in order to
perfect ourselves and follow in the type of life that Jesus
set for us. The things we do in each lifetime determine what
sort of things we will have to work with in the next life
time on earth. This is referred to in these teachings as
karma, and it does not refer to only bad for bad, but also
getting good for good. To me, it would be almost a hopeless
job for anyone to perfect himself in one lifetime, and it
certainly seems as though we should have more than just one
average life span to try to accomplish these goals.
Because of all this, I cannot help but believe in past
and future lives, and since I believe that what I do is
measured back to me, etc., I want to do all I can to live
up to the tenets.
