Ass'n for Research & Enlightenment,
Virginia Beach, Virginia
Dear Sirs,
Dr. Morton Singer of New York City, feeling sure from my
talks with him, that I would be interested in the work of
your Association, sent me a copy of the booklet, "Edgar
Cayce, His Life and Work".
Just before that, I had seen Thomas Sugrue's book on Edgar
Cayce advertised, and had been moved to order a copy because
I have long been sure that man has powers above those
ordinarily exercised and have been on the lookout for records
of human contact with "that of God".
My chief interest is in what we may call religious
attainment. Some years ago I was granted an experience which
lifted me into the consciousness above this ordinary
consciousness, and I am now making a record of that
experience.
At present however, and indeed for some time, my life and
work have been hampered by some physical irregularity that
seems obscure, and I am moved to ask that Mr. Cayce, through
physical reading, help me clear up the condition.
As you might like to have for your records some idea as to
how I see or feel the condition, I will say what I can, as
briefly as I can.
Three years ago I underwent an operation for the removal of a
"trapped" kidney. The trouble had been there for about ten
years previously, every year getting worse, but, for some
strange reason, the doctors I went to failed to put their
finger on it. The result was, that by the time they did
discover the trouble, the kidney was in very bad shape and I
was pretty well worn down.
The operation proved to be even more serious than they had
expected, and for several days my life was uncertain. In
time, however, I recovered, that is, to some extent. The
operation, as such, had been successful.
Gradually I regained my mental strength, and in this respect
am as vigorous, if not more so, than ever. But, not yet had
my body regained its vitality.
I cannot even do such a simple thing as mow the grass of the
lawn without getting tired and having to stop and rest. It
is strange, because my body does not FEEL weak. It feels
able. Yet when I put it to the test it can do less work than
the body of a boy. This lack of physical energy and
endurance is a quite evident feature of the condition.
A second evident feature is that I have considerable
difficulty getting to sleep of nights. That had been so for
some years prior to the operation, and has been more so
since.
Now for the "obscure" feature. I feel that there is some
kind of irregularity in the condition or the functioning of
the vital organs in or around the small intestines. There is
a tension there, a sort of contraction. Often I have the
thought that this contraction, or whatever it is, is the seat
of all the other difficulties, and that if I could straighten
this out, the rest would follow.
As I have the attitude that my body is my instrument, and
that my work in life is to be, in whatever small measure, an
agent of our common Creator, and to help, in the measure that
I have been helped, toward the real awakening, you may know
how I feel in asking for Edgar Cayce's help in this matter.
In turn, I would like to do whatever I can to advance your
good work.
Mr. Cayce says, "Not I, it is not I that does it." I feel
that way too. Yet I think we do well to appreciate and be
thankful to each other, to the human agents of the great
working.
Sincerely yours, [

REPORTS
9/04/43 [
3060]'s letter:
Dear Mr. Cayce,
Something over two months have passed since I received my
physical reading, and I would like to report.
First let me say that the reading surprised me in several
ways. I never would have thought, and I doubt that any
ordinary physician would have thought, that toxic forces
through the system and poisons pressing on the nerve centers
were chief among the causes of my trouble. Yet, once it was
pointed out, I could see at once that it could be so. I had
felt a toxic condition on and off, and had tried to rid
myself of it. But, in my reasoning, I thought that some
other trouble was causing this condition, I never dreamed
that this condition was itself causing the trouble. I also
knew, as the reading expressed it, that my batteries were run
down. But it required more insight and knowledge than I
possessed to know that my body lacked "the vital energies to
renew the activity of the glands in the organs themselves",
as the reading so amazingly put it. And what knowledge of
intricate and subtle factors of the human body the reading
revealed!
In all respects save one, I have done as directed. I
purified the alimentary canal, according to directions. Then
I began the use of the Violet Ray machine, one of which I was
lucky enough to find for sale at a moderate price. What I
have not done is to take the Vimms. I tried it, but found
that even a small quantity disturbed the equilibrium. By the
way, it showed an unusual knowledge of my body to know, as
the reading did, that vitamins, taken in this manner would
disturb the equilibrium. I had experienced this sort of
thing before. Whereas, most of the people I know can take
vitamins in large quantities without feeling the slightest
disturbance.
The observable results have been these. The tension around
the small intestines has all but disappeared, and I have long
since stopped taking the medicine that had formerly seemed to
ease the condition. Now and again I feel a toxic condition,
but am able to get rid of it. My batteries are not yet, in
my sense of it, fully recharged, but this, I think, is
because I have had to continue the work that doubtless ran
them down. I am sure that if I could change my occupation
and duties for a while, and at the same time follow
instructions, I would come upon a complete change for the
better. As it is, I certainly have found help for the body,
and I am grateful. Not the least of the results of the
reading is that it put my mind at ease as regards the
question if there might not be some more serious organic
condition that ought to be attended to before it got worse.
Sometime, after I have been able to follow instructions under
more favorable general life-conditions, I would very much
like a check reading - unless, of course, the whole thing
should have meanwhile cleared up. Among other things, I am
particularly eager to know how to help bring the sympathetic
and cerebrospinal systems, the liver and the kidney
circulations, into harmony. For some time I have been aware
that, in my terms, my mental and emotional systems were by no
means as coordinated as they ought to be.
Sometime, too, I would be thankful to have a life reading. I
suppose you have appointments many months ahead.
Sincerely, [

9/09/43 EC's letter to [
3060]:
Dear Mr. [
3060]:
Thank you very much for your letter of the fourth. I feel
very sure that if you will follow the suggestions very
carefully, you will get results.
Of course, we never know just what is to be said in these
readings, Mr. [
3060], but if it is something in the reading
that answers to a something within yourself, I am pretty sure
that it is not far from being right. If you apply the
suggestions then you will get help.
Do let us hear from you from time to time.
Sincerely yours, Edgar Cayce
11/29/43 He wrote [in longhand]: Dear Mr. Cayce: We are
glad to send the enclosed check as a contribution to the
Living Sponsorship. Wish it could be more. What other work
being done in the world today has such application to the
body AND mind AND spirit? May it be fulfilled. Sincerely,
[

12/03/43 EC wrote: May I express my appreciation for your
wonderful help. I trust I may so live and act, in my effort
to be of service to others, to ever merit your confidence
indicated in your contribution. Thank you again and again.
Sincerely, Edgar Cayce
9/27/44 Mr. [
3060] wrote for a ck. physical rdg., asking: Is
the liver or gall bladder sluggish or in any way out of
order? If so, is treatment indicated? Is it possible for a
higher body to be disharmonized with the physical body? Can
a higher body and the physical body be "out of whack" with
one another? If so in the case of this body, is treatment
indicated?
With all good wishes for the continuation of the remarkable
work of the A.R.E. in general and Edgar Cayce's services in
particular, [
3060].
10/02/44 GD wrote explaining about EC's illness and suggesting
that he try the Castor Oil Packs "which the readings
frequently suggest for a sluggish liver and gall bladder;
using them for an hour each evening, three evenings in
succession each week, the third day followed by two
tablespoonsful of Olive Oil internally. Mr. Cayce has had an
intestinal-gall duct disturbance which has from time to time
responded beautifully to this treatment. It is kind of
messy, but very effective... I am enclosing directions for
preparing Castor Oil Packs."
10/12/44 [
3060] replied:
Miss Gladys Davis,
Ass'n for Research & Enlightenment
Virginia Beach, Va.
Dear Miss Davis,
Thank you for your letter and for the enclosure giving
directions for the castor oil packs. My wife will prepare
them for the next time of need.
May I add my wishes to the thousands who wish for Mr. Cayce's
speedy recovery? The wonder is, not that he suffers nerve
exhaustion now and again, but that he is able to do what he
does.
Though a check physical reading could help me clear up some
questions that seem vital to me, such as the question about
the bodies, and another about why it is so difficult for me
to get to sleep at night, I do not feel that these are
pressing enough to warrant asking for one, Mr. Cayce's energy
and schedule being what they are at this period.
Sincerely, [

10/20/72 Letter from a colleague indicated that Mr. [
