Mr. Edgar Cayce
Virginia Beach, Va.,
My Dear Mr. Cayce,
Having just finished reading Mr. Sugrue's excellent biography
of you I feel inspired to seek your aid. I realize I am one
of thousands who have been and will be imposing on your time,
effort and great gift, but I truly believe that you would
find my cases (for I have to ask your aid for my fifteen-year
old daughter as well as for myself) deserving of your
consideration. I will outline them as briefly as possible,
and rely upon your judgment as to whether or not you think we
should have your help.
For over three years I have been more or less isolated from
my former participation in an active enjoyment of social
contacts. I have suffered from the pains which seem to come
from a spinal curvature, plus what has variously been termed
a "nervous break-down," menopause, malnutrition, and even
some type of infantile. After many months in bed I attempted
to fight my way back to normalcy, but had developed a
tendency to have a "complex" about being in the company
of my friends, dreading callers and finding it almost an
impossibility to walk out of sight of my home, as I have a
horrible physical experience each time I have attempted these
things. I have had many doctors, including orthopedic men,
psychiatrists and Christian Science practitioners. I am not
bed-ridden, but am active with many hobbies at home such as
gardening, music, painting, photography and development and
tinting work, and work for the Red Cross which I can do at
home.
My husband [...] is on active sea duty, and it would be
a great relief to him to know that I am once more able to
be without fear, and restored to my natural state of self
reliance, as I have to call upon others to stay with me
when he is away.

Dear Mr. Cayce,
According to your last letter, April 2nd, you are holding
the afternoon of June 23rd, from 3:30 to 4:30 E.W.T. for
a physical reading for me. I am sorry to have to wait so
long, but I am anxious to her the results. I fully expect
to be here at the above address at that time, and will await
notification from you.
My list of questions is as follows:
(1) What causes the nervous sense of fright and how can it be
overcome?
(2) What causes the tension in neck and dizziness?
(3) What causes sharp pain under the rib area?
(4) Can the spine be helped? How?
(5) What about diet?
(6) Why am I so frightened and apprehensive all the time, so
that I fear company and yet fear to be alone?
Thank you for your service to me, and with best wishes for
the continuance of your great work, I remain
Sincerely yours, [

My dear Mr. Cayce,
Thank you very much for the copies of your reading for me. I
received them recently, and have begun the daily compresses
as you advised. I shall get in touch with Dr. McLean as soon
as the time is expedient.
I read in a recent bulletin from the Association that your
time is taken up for the rest of the year. I am sorry if
that is true, as I am most anxious to have a reading for my
daughter, of whom I wrote you in my first letter to you. She
is no better and is a constant source of anxiety to [...]
and myself. I really would like to have both a Physical and
a Life reading for her, as I believe it would increase her
chances of happiness to know her destiny; but at present,
her health is the main consideration.
If there is any chance of your being able to give her an
appointment would you let me know and I shall be glad to
mail a check as soon as it is verified.
I do not understand some of the things you said in my
reading, about the scriptural application, but I read
and re-read the passages referred to in hopes that
some understanding will come to me.
Thank you again for your help, and with best wishes for you
and the work you are doing, I remain,
Very truly yours, [
