3/18/49 GD's ltr. to Mr. [
3062]:
Mr. [
3062]
..., Ohio
Dear [
3062]
Before me is your letter of February 23, also your physical
and life readings. As soon as I read your questions about
a good psychic, or astrologer, I thought, "How could [
3062]
find anyone who has a closer contact with the God-force than
he has? All he needs to do is tune in!" If there is any one
thing we, who had personal readings from Edgar Cayce, should
be cognizant of it, it is this fact: That all we can know
of God, or good, is within ourselves. Of course, others who
are advanced along the path (to knowing themselves) could
help us by encouragement and by making aware of where we
have taken the wrong turn. However, if we should happen
to seek advice from one not so enlightened as ourselves
even, we may get in a much worse fix than we now find
ourselves.
Looking over your life reading and seeing reference to the
great ability you have, I can think of no single person to
whom I could refer you for guidance. I rather think that
you are suffering from a desire for change, a freedom from
the humdrum, daily grind, and perhaps are feeling a little
sorry for yourself.
Mind you, I'm not setting myself up as a psychic, but, based
on the assumption that you have the virtues and capabilities
outlined in your reading, my advice - though not infallible
- would be as follows:
1. Do something different for a change. (Of course, you were
attempting to do that when you wrote asking about a psychic.)
Read your life reading and pick out a particular interest
in which you could make a hobby. It might be that you could
repeat to advantage the treatment outlined in your physical
reading because "the body is the temple of the living God"
and it was indicated that your physical tiredness often
causes mental boredom. (I know about this, because I've
had the same experience.)
2. Speaking of your physical condition reminds me of the
request you made some time ago for information from the
readings to prevent baldness. I am also reminded of an
Elixir from Case [
636] which thirty of us (Association
members) are trying. If you want to make the thirty-first
guinea pig, I can have this compound sent to you - a double
portion of it - from our local druggist ($3.50). Several
of us have been greatly "pepped up" by taking this, but
that does not necessarily mean that you would respond in
the same manner. I merely mention it, the extract, in
case you may be interested.
3. Your reading mentions your abilities as a peacemaker,
as a writer who could act as an interpreter, a "go-between"
between groups or organizations. What a great need there is
for just such abilities! I find myself thinking of all the
ways in which you could be helpful in compiling and present-
ing the truths which came through the readings.
4. Would it be possible for you to make a trip to New York
for a few days and talk with Hugh Lynn Cayce? (He is
spending about half of his time in New York now working on
the Edgar Cayce Foundation Campaign.) I think that you two
would find much in common and that you could be helpful
to one another. If there is a possibility that you can
do this, please write him direct and see if you cannot
get together on a date.
5. There are several members of the Association to whom I
could refer you (all in New York) who have been quite
helpful through their interpretation of astrology,
numerology, hand analysis, etc., but I feel innately that
YOU can obtain much better guidance by turning within
yourself. After all, you did obtain a life reading and we
know that your abilities far exceed those of many who set
themselves up as analysts for guiding others.
6. You speak of a catastrophe time which your astrological
analysis predicts. Remember what your reading said: That
such signs are dependent on how much power you attribute to
them. OF COURSE a catastrophic time is imminent for all of
us. It is our heritage by the mere fact of living in this
hectic and so-called enlightened age. The more enlightened
we are, the greater the responsibility we have in making
ready. Remember, Jesus said something about fearing not
those who destroy the body (material possessions or what
not), but rather fearing those who might uproot the soul
from its spiritual ideals.
7. You speak of financial difficulties. These, too, like
the poor are always with us. It is not what happens to us
but what we do about it that counts. I am sure that if we
are grounded in our spiritual ideals, attuned to the SOURCE
from which we received direction to manifest in the earth at
this time, we need not worry about external things.
I'm talking to myself at the same time I am saying this to
you, because I need to be reminded - we all do - that "the
silver and gold are His, and the cattle on a thousand hills."
[
3062], accept this letter in the spirit it is sent. Far
be it from me to "preach", especially something that I
don't practice so well myself, but some of your problems
so parallel my own that I hope my words will "jack you up"
in a manner similar to the way I have been jacked up many
times through my personal readings from Edgar Cayce.
Remember me to your sister, [
3564]. I hope that some day I
may meet her. God's blessings be with you; come to see us
when you can.
Sincerely, [signed] Gladys (D. Gladys Davis)

3/22/49 Mr. [
3062]'s ltr. to GD:
Dear Gladys,
You are actually and truly a seraph (Is that one of the
higher ups of the angelic hierarchy?) for taking time to
write the long and helpful letter. The advice is good,
I know; but following it is something else again! I know
that looking outside oneself to soothsayers is bad practice,
and I often criticize it in others. I suppose, after all,
that my whole mood at the present is a rebellion of ego,
and that doesn't represent a very highly evolved state.
You overestimate me terrifically. My conscience pains me
for not having lived up to some of my visions, but at least
I can say that I have tried to verbalize my ideals in my
class lecturers, even if I have not "gone and done likewise."
And I have most achingly tired. So I'd like for you to send
me Mr. Cayce's elixir, as you suggested. I'm enclosing a
check with an additional amount for "handling and mailing."
It was most kind of you to suggest it. I need a change
from teaching. After all, I've been doing it day and night,
winter and summer for over twenty years. But financially I
simply cannot see my way to taking some time off.
We must be at least faintly EN RAPPORT, for when you were
writing your letter to me about the Association drive for
funds I was writing mine to you. I want to help with the
microfilming, and as soon as I can I shall send something,
though it can't be very much.
A neighbor of mine, a psychologist in the public schools,
who formerly was most condescending to anything of the
psychic and "marginal" nature, is now quite interested
in the work. She may drop in on you this summer.
I'd like to meet Hugh Lynn Cayce. Maybe sometime.
[
3564] has been having her difficulties this winter, chiefly
employment. She had been working at a hospital from 11 at
night till 7 in the morning for a little more than $80 a
month. I exerted my Leo nature and made her quit that!
I felt that it was ruining her health; she never got any sun.
I hope I can come down for a week or so, perhaps this summer.
Maybe at the very least I can help with the typing there.
My best wishes to everybody, and my thanks to you. I look
forward to taking the medicine, and I feel sure I shall leap
like the hart after a time.
Sincerely, [
3062] Enc.
