2/14/44 Report: "...Now about my son's [
3633] reading and
mine. In mine I am a bit disappointed. I don't think much
of 'me' - how did you get the spelling of my Venetian name
'Denunceo?' If it is phonetic it might also be D'Annunzio
(?), and I might be an ancestress of the Italian poet Gabriel
D'Annunzio (?). Whether that is the poet's real name or only
a nom de plume, I don't know. D'Annunzio (?) must mean 'of
the annunciation' obviously and [
3633]'s former name 'Angel'
there may be some kindred religious significance. Once in
India I was told that I had an Italian incarnation, a very
happy married life with two sons. One caused me the only
great unhappiness of that incarnation and that I knew him as
a Danish friend in this life. He warned me to break off with
him which I did. Mrs. [B...] and I have always been
perfectly sure that I was Florentine. In fact we placed the
time as 1300 - 1400 at the time Bullicelli painted there. I
am so happy in Florence, never cared to stay much in
Venice... I regret so much that I couldn't be present at the
reading... You say 'Knoxville - a peculiar station on the
rung of time!' You might have said sinister, for it is a
backward and materialistic city. That is why I am working
for art here. My ancestors were the [...]s, much with the
Indians in early Tenn., but I don't like being Annie Walsh!
Soon I am going to try writing again, seriously, with prayer
before trying..."
8/19/49 Letter: "...After studying spiritualism for years
I have come to the following conclusions. That it is unwise
and perhaps even dangerous to summon back from their life
after death the average person to help us with our problems.
It is the blind trying to lead the blind... I am no
Catholic, but I know that Mary, the Mother of Christ
will come to my aid when I ask her for help..."
3/07/51 Letter: "The press has been cruel to us in our
sorrow, and no doubt you have read of our tragedy. My son
[
3633], who has been emotionally unbalanced for 3 years,
last Wednesday shot his father and grandmother... I am
writing to ask you to please get one of your prayer circles
to work on us and to pour spiritual power into my mother...
and into my husband...and my son [
3633]. We certainly need
it. Also if my friend [
507] is there, tell her."
6/14/56 She wrote expressing appreciation for help given
her son by A.R.E. referring her to Still-Hildreth for his
treatment.
2/25/64 Note to HLC: "Because your wonderful father was a
friend of both [
3633]'s and mine, I am sending you this."
[It was a picture of her with her son, [
3633], "In Memoriam"
announcing [
3633]'s death
