TEXT

GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:
EC: Yes, we have the body here, [3113].
Now, as we find, there are conditions that are gradually upsetting the better equilibrium of this body.
While specific in some ways, in the reactions being created in the body, we find that these conditions are somewhat complicated - when we consider that producing same. This is in reverse from what is at times found, even with conditions indicated that disturb the body.
These, then, are conditions as we find them with this body, [3113] we are speaking of:
First, we find that in some times back there were those conditions from some infectious forces in the body which, combined with the "flu," turned upon the digestive forces of the body, setting up a disturbance in the glandular forces of the digestive system.
Then there were those conditions combined with this that left a catarrhal effect in the soft tissue of the face, head and throat, and the antrum.
This, with the secretions from same, has affected - or re-infected - the lymph circulation through soft tissue of head and face.
And from this we have a good deal of disturbance with the organs of the sensory system, as well as quite a bit of pain through the muscular forces in the circulation through the extremities.
So, we have a combination of an arthritic and a neurotic-neuritic condition; and thus atmospheric pressures, anxieties of the mind, the diets for the body, all have - or may have - their effect upon the severity of the pressures produced through portions of the body.
These may all be combined at once, or any one of them may affect the body. So, as well as having pains in joints, ankles, knees and hips, in fingers and wrist and elbow and shoulders, there may be caused at periods a great deal of disturbance in the muscular forces of the arm or shoulder or back, across the hip, or in the tendons of the lower extremities. At other periods, after getting up and going, these areas may appear to relax and to get along very well - but let them rest a while and it is hard starting them to move again, as it were.
Then, as we find, these produce in the system - from the infection in head as well as in the disturbance through the digestive forces - lack of proper eliminations, slowing of eliminations through alimentary canal.
All of these tend also to upset the organs of the pelvis, so that there is some disturbance in the activity of the bladder and kidneys. All of these become a part of the conditions and the disturbance.
We find that these may be materially aided. Tendencies will be left, and from time to time there may be the recurrent reactions, but if these applications suggested are consistently followed we may materially aid the body - if there are precautions as to diet, as to activity, and at times when there are the recurrences of those tendencies the reverting to the things suggested for stimulating eliminations. If the body will do these, we may find he may get along very well for many years, though if there are not the proper precautions a return might cause an upsetting in the CENTRAL circulation and thus affect heart, liver, lungs or kidneys direct.
These, though, are the conditions that are to be met by the body in the present, and these we would apply:
First begin taking internally a teaspoonful of ENO SALTS each morning before breakfast, in a full glass of water. Do this for at least thirty days, so we may have the proper eliminations through the alimentary canal. Taken for this period, it will set up better drainages throughout the body.
At the end of thirty days, when leaving off the Eno Salts (not before), begin taking Atomidine; three drops in half a glass of water each morning before breakfast, for fourteen days - two whole weeks, you see.
Then leave off.
When the Atomidine series is completed (not before), begin taking each week a general hydrotherapy treatment. This would include a mild cabinet sweat followed by the hot and cold showers and a thorough rubdown.
At the beginning of the first hydrotherapy treatment we would have a good colonic irrigation; not merely an enema, but a high colonic, using at least three to four to five gallons of water, and thoroughly cleanse the colon. Do this at least every twenty days.
But have the cabinet sweat and rubdown once each week, see?
In the matter of the diet, - do take A, D, and B-1 vitamins as reinforcements to the foods for the body. For, of course, there will be some weakness produced by the first colonic, and the activity of so much of the eliminations during the first thirty days, but not sufficient weakness to be detrimental in any way to the better conditions of the body - unless there is the overactivity.
At least three times a week have sea foods as a part of the diet. This doesn't mean fresh water fish, but sea foods of all kinds.
Do have fowl as a part of the diet (though no fried foods of any kind), but keep away from hog meats or beef; though vegetable soups and the like may be taken that have beef stock in same.
All white breads should be discarded.
Do not eat white potatoes at the same meal with other starches. No two starches at the same meal, such as potatoes with corn or with any of the heavy starchy foods. Some of these may be taken separately, as macaroni and cheese may be taken in moderation, but not with white potatoes or with another heavy starch at the same meal. Corn - preferably cook this on the ear and then cut off, and thus it may be taken occasionally, but do not take it at the same meal with white potatoes or the like.
Every day have one meal consist chiefly of raw vegetables, such as carrots, lettuce and the like. Celery should be oft taken by the body - it should be a part of the diet each day. And do include plenty of watercress.
Do keep in these lines, and we will make better conditions for the body, [3113].
Ready for questions.
(Q) What causes dryness of mouth?
(A) The stopping of the flow of the lymph, as indicated, through the head and especially through the call on the alimentary canal. Thus the long period of causing the extra flow of lymph through the alimentary canal, by the taking regularly of the Eno Salts. This will change this.
During the whole period of taking the Eno, especially, drink plenty of water - at least six or eight glasses during a day.
(Q) Where is the infection causing arthritis?
(A) Read what we have been giving, and we will find this is not true arthritis but a combination of infection from those glands in the digestive system, including the liver, as well as the soft tissue of face.
Do as we have outlined and we will help this body, in the manners indicated.
We are through with this reading.

(See extra sheet [which was enclosed] of directions for Physiotherapist when you are ready to begin these treatments. Let us have the name and address of the one you choose.
Eno Salts may be purchased from almost any drug store.
Atomidine is manufactured by The Atomidine Company, 1326 St. Johns Place, Brooklyn, N.Y., and sells for $1 a bottle. Take only as directed in the Reading, not as given on bottle.
If unable to obtain watercress, the canned juice may be obtained. The ROLLE Watercress Macerate, made by Vegetable Juices, Inc., Chicago, Ill., 20 cents a can, is very good.
Note: The Readings usually suggest that the B-Complex Vitamins are preferable, taking the A and D of morning and the B-1 of evening - with the meal.)

BACKGROUND

7/19/43 [3113]'s letter:
Mr. Edgar Cayce Virginia Beach, Va.
Dear Sir:
Replying to yours July 17th. I will be at ..., N.C., July 26th from 3:30 to 4:30 P.M.
My full name is [3113].
I am interested in knowing location of the infection causing arthritis. Also cause of irritation of mucus membranes of nasal passages and mouth, especially dryness of the latter.
Yours very truly, [3113]
