TEXT

1. GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:
2. EC: Yes, we have the body here.
3. As we find, there are disturbances. These are the effects of a condition existent at birth, negligence on the part of someone. This as we find is what may at times be called a "quirk", because of certain pressures not indicated other than in the brain center itself as to reflexes.
4. We would give the body a massage just occasionally; that is, we would give the massage once each day for a week and then leave off until the same period the next month. And let these be about twenty-eight days apart from the beginning. Use an equal combination of Cocoa Butter and Peanut Oil. Liquefy the Cocoa Butter and mix with the Peanut Oil. Begin at the base of the brain; not too deep, massaging along the side of the spine rather than on the spine itself - those areas where coordination comes between the sympathetic system and the cerebro-spinal. These might be pointed out by such an one as McLean, and then the mother do this herself.
5. This should be particularly effective in the areas of the 3rd cervical, the 2nd and 3rd dorsal, 9th dorsal and through the area from the 12th dorsal to the end of the spine. See, this was a condition where the pressures are indicated in the brush end of the spine and reflex in the brain.
6. These done for a period of eleven months, we will have great changes for this body.
7. Keep normal in its activities. Keep that especially in its music and in the art. These should be the channels wherein the body would respond.
8. Do that.
9. Ready for questions.
10. (Q) How did this injury come about?
    (A) As just given, at birth.
11. We are through with this reading.

    Two copies to Mother
    Copy to Ass'n file
    Two Miss Goodall for indexing
(Dr. T. R. McLean, Popham Hall, Scarsdale, N.Y., is an osteopath who has had experience with following Mr. Cayce's Readings. He will gladly go over the reading with you and point out just how the massage is to be given according to these directions.)

BACKGROUND

1. 4/14/43 Letter from mother: "He is a handsome healthy boy with a decided talent for music, but he has been handicapped by what is called, for want of a better term, 'word deafness.' He had no speech at all up to the age of 4, when he was put under the care of a fine teacher who has since brought him out remarkably, considering his retarded condition. He will be 11 yrs. old on April 27th, is in the 5th grade, and reads, writes, and does arithmetic - abstract numbers - very well. But his speech, and especially his understanding of meanings are not up to normal as yet. It is as though his mind were blocked from functioning completely, although he shows occasional flashes of real brilliance. He is definitely not the ordinary defective type, but there is evidently some trouble somewhere which prevents an otherwise brilliant mentality from coming through. We have all worked with him long and hard and he has certainly made good progress but he has a long way to go before he can be considered completely normal."
2. 7/13/43, 8/20/43, 9/27/43 Questions:
   1. What is the nature of his difficulty? 2. What was the cause of it, an external injury or some flaw in the natural development of the brain? 3. If an injury, how and when did it happen? 4. What can the parents do to correct this condition, besides the speech training he is getting now? that is, is there any sort of physical therapy such as osteopathy that will help him? If so, please advise as to this treatment. 5. Can he be brought up to normal powers of speech and thinking? 6. How long will it take?

REPORTS

1. 10/20/43 Mother's letter: "Dear Mr. Cayce: Thank you very much for [3259]'s reading. I have already gotten in touch with Dr. McLean, and will try to follow your directions meticulously, with his help. We are certainly hoping for the best result..."
   1. Is his progress as satisfactory as can be expected at this time? 2. If so, what further physical treatment would you suggest? 3. If not, how can it be improved? 4. How long should he continue lessons with his present teacher? 5. Is there any other teacher, or type of training to be recommended at this time? 6. Will he attain normal development, and if so, how long will this take?
2. 6/17/44 Mother's letter: "Altho he has made good progress in understanding and behavior during the past year, he still lacks fluency of expression to a considerable degree. He seems to be held back from talking by a feeling of unsureness and often, even tho he may know the right answer to a question, he hesitates to give it, as though he has no confidence in himself. We are sure he knows a good deal more than we can get from him in speech. Then, too, he seldom initiates a conversation, or talks of things that interest most children. We have tried to follow your instructions conscientiously, and he has con'd to have his regular speech lessons with his teacher, Mrs. R., who has done so much for him in the past - Ques. concerning his teacher do not imply that we do not value her work, merely if and when a different type of instruction may be necessary for him."
