5/23/44 [
3342]'s ltr. to EC: "...I have changed jobs so
many times that it seems as if I should stick to one over a
year. I realize that I can only decide on opportunities as
they come along, but I do get in such a stew. (As you say,
'What a muddle-puddle'.)
"The Reading certainly expresses my most inmost desires and
aspirations. My dominant desire and interest has always been
in homemaking, and I love serving people. I find that at the
present time I am very much interested in social studies -
geography, history, English as related to present day
community and world affairs. I am going to start saving all
the current articles I've been reading on democracy at work.
In the course I am taking at the University now, I am working
on a unit based on the use of biography in education (the
influence of great characters on youth).
"As to the music and art referred to, my interest has been
more in its use in connection with worship services. I think
that the course in college that I liked best of all, and in
which I received an A, was Fine Arts in Religion. In this
course we made a hymn book, worked out worship services, etc.
"I know I must have 'peace and harmony' in myself if I am to
give it to others, and when I lose that peace and harmony I'm
like a lost soul struggling to get back on the right path
again.
"This winter I began singing in the choir at the Methodist
church here, for the last two Sundays I played the piano in
the Junior Dept., however I do feel I had better work with
the teen aged girls. I should have done this sooner but will
see what I can do now.
"I have been living with my family this winter but am anxious
to establish a home of my own next year, where my child can
be with me. That's why I've been working on the school idea
now.
"If this letter seems disjointed it's because as I've read
over the Reading I've jotted down ideas as they came..."
9/09/57 Report by HLC: "On August 22, 1957, I talked with
[
3342] about her life reading.
"Mrs. [
3342] pointed out that she had continued to work for
the Red Cross as was suggested in the reading and had done
work in girls' schools. She had gotten back into Red Cross
for disaster work and had enjoyed the disaster work very
much. We wondered whether the disaster areas along the
Delaware River and Louisiana took her into the areas
described in her reading as 'pioneer days when she overcame
considerable difficulties and did a good job'. She also
indicated that she enjoyed Girl Scout work, especially the
camping part of it.
"She is now employed in Boston University in a dormitory in
charge of 150 girls. She expects to take courses that will
prepare her to get into a smaller girls' school dealing with
younger girls as suggested by her reading. She will report
further on this.
"She also described her difficulties with a superior in the
disaster work, when the word 'ravings' indicated in her life
reading might well apply to the supervisor's criticism of her
overzealousness in giving help to the disaster families.
There's a point in her reading where this seems to check very
carefully.
"As a matter of interest, the interview with her about her
reading was pleasant and from observation it certainly
confirmed the reading's statement about a very lovely person
with very high spiritual ideals and very fine training and
background, both physically and mentally and spiritually.
"She is now a member of the Association and will keep in
touch with us..."
