Dear Mr. Cayce:
I have read with great interest "There is a River" & I want
to express my gratitude to you & Mr. Sugrue for giving to the
public the benefit of your great experience.
I have no difficulty whatever in absorbing the philosophy
revealed, as I have studied systems of metaphysical thought
which have prepared me for ready acceptance of the truths
which your book corroborates & explains. On many subjects I
have gained enlightenment from the record the work contains
of your readings.
It is with all humbleness of spirit that I express the wish
to have a life reading, though this is not the main object of
my writing you, which I have already shown.
I am not ill physically but as to spiritual needs I feel
almost desperate. Briefly I think this is the case with me:
I am a youthful sort of person of 46. All my life so far has
been spent in service to others which has been my goal &
still is for that matter. I am a school teacher & except
financially, a successful one; by successful I mean capable
of bringing happiness into the lives of those whom I teach.
I will not elaborate further on this.
It does seem to me that I must be paying my Karmic debt
however, as I have always longed for a right mate & know that
I could make a lovely home for others & myself if I had a
chance to fulfill my highest concept of self-expression,
which I feel has thus far been denied me. I have no trouble
in attracting friends of both sexes, yet I seem like Tantalus
of old mythology, who always had the object of his longing
"so near & yet so far" of attainment.
Now doesn't there come a time when one can rightly fill his
Karmic debt (I am convinced of this Karma) is about paid up &
he can turn his back on it? I am praying for a "lead" to
show whether or not I should make a complete change of
environment, occupation etc. to hasten the opportunity for
the Divine Design of my life to manifest itself. Or am I
destined to go on plugging away in my obscure capacity as a
teacher, with my own unsatisfied longings pushed into the
background.
I don't want this to sound as if I have become selfish all of
a sudden. I shall still go on trying to make the world a
better place to live in for those whom I am in contact with.
If you are kind enough to give me a life reading I shall
certainly heed it & appreciate it. I was born Feb. 8, 1896
in England.
Regardless of that request I have made, however I reiterate
my thanks for your inspired message which has delighted me &
my friends in the last few weeks and given us a keener desire
for the study of the Bible. May it effect many people that
way.
Sincerely & earnestly, [

Dear Miss [

Received your recent letter and certainly glad to hear that
you enjoyed the book "There Is A River".
You can appreciate how many requests we have received from
all over the country since the book has been published, and
since it is only possible for me to give two a day, it would
be about four months before I could get to you. Under
separate cover I am sending you literature that describes the
work and life readings and after you have read this, if you
will send in your application for membership in the
Association (which is required by law in the State of
Virginia before I can give you an appointment), I will be
glad to set aside a time for this life reading.
I do hope the delay will not be too discouraging, but am sure
you can understand that, and that you will feel that it had
been worthwhile.
Sincerely, Edgar Cayce [by M. Poss]

Dear Mr. Cayce:
I received your good letter and shall look forward to the
afternoon of October 24, but hasten to say that if at that
time it seems urgent for you to rest please postpone my
reading to some future date.
You asked if you had sent me the life-reading data. You did
send me a pamphlet entitled Life Readings, a Study of
Spiritual Evolution, dated April 1943. I have read its
contents, and also have sent for The Search for God, and the
other booklets mentioned in the pamphlet. As yet I have not
received them.
In regard to the questions first I should like to know the
general outline of former incarnations, and my queries are
along the line of the general purpose of life readings.
Specifically I should like to know whether I should consider
changing my occupation, environment, or both in the attempt
to provide a fuller expression of myself, which I feel cannot
be obtained unless I meet soon my soul-mate.
Shall I meet him in this life, or must I go on paying my
apparent Karmic debt without satisfying the longing of my
heart's desire. If I have already met the necessary
individual, is there anything I can do to overcome any
obstacles?
These are the main big questions and I sincerely hope they
are legitimate ones. By the time of the reading I may have
others, which I can inform you of.
Best wishes for your continued good health, and good work.
Sincerely, yours [
