This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 16th day of November, 1943, in accordance with request made by the self - Mr. [3363], new Associate Member of the Ass'n for Research and Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by Mr. [779] and Mrs. [310].

TEXT

1. GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them.
2. EC: Yes, we have the body here, [3363].
3. Now as we find, there are conditions that are abnormal for this body. These have to do with the abilities of the body in locomotion, from a physical reaction, and the general debilitation throughout the activity of organs.
4. As to sources of these, we find that these are primarily (from the spiritual and mental angle) a meeting of self.
5. In the pathological conditions that are active in the mind and the body, there is a lacking of proper eliminations. Also there is a crystallization of hormones in the circulation of lymph. Thus incoordination exists between the lymph or superficial circulation and the deeper circulation. Hence there are unbalanced conditions in the chemical forces of the body, as may be indicated by the tautness and even swelling at times in feet, ankles, knees, hands, shoulders, and even through trunk portion of the body at times. Also these are indicated in the character of abrasions that occur deep under the skin at times. These become as sores, or knots or cysts or as those things where there is lack of proper distribution of energies that have been used in the body. Not wholly toxic conditions, but producing toxic conditions by their lack of proper elimination.
6. The blood supply indicates variations as to heart activity, as to circulation in extremities and through the torso. Also in the nerve forces all the sympathetic nerves are under stress and strain, so that in movements of the body these cry out for relief, as it were. The lack of proper assimilation is a portion of the nerve disorders and disturbances. Poor eliminations are a result of the combination of these disturbances.
7. As we find, there may be aid, but it will require a long period. It will require being persistent and consistent. And unless the body and mind will take it all, and not just a part and become weary with it, do not begin - but keep right on with the injections or the sedatives that have been taken, which are only clogging the body further and will make the body become more and more useless for activity later on.
8. But if there is the desire to be consistent with these applications and to follow these alone:
9. Begin taking Atomidine internally, one drop in half a glass of water before the morning meal. Do this each morning for five days.
10. Also begin at the same time to massage the body thoroughly each evening when ready to retire, after the bath, is taken (and take it daily, just as hot as the body can take it). Even though it is painful, massage the body thoroughly during the bath, whether a sponge bath, a tub bath or a shower. Massage the body thoroughly with a good soap as Ivory or the like, that we may clear the pores of the skin with this massage. Do this each evening for five days.
11. Following such a bath and massage, give the body a thorough rub with this combination of oils, adding these in the order named:

    Usoline or Nujol (As the base)......4 ounces,
Olive Oil...........................2 ounces,
Peanut Oil..........................2 ounces,
Oil of Pine Needles...............1/2 ounce,
Oil of Sassafras Root.............1/2 ounce,
Lanolin (liquefied).................1 ounce.

12. These will tend to separate, but shake together and massage in the body thoroughly - the limbs, the torso, the back. Do this daily for five days.
13. Then leave off these for five days, then commence all over again and continue five more days.
14. Then leave off five days.
15. THEN begin taking five drops of Atomidine each morning for five days. This is at the fourth series, you see. Take the five drops each morning for three days.
16. Then have - that evening, of the third day - an Epsom Salts Bath. Use at least twenty pounds of Epsom Salts in forty gallons of water. Massage the body thoroughly while in the bath. This may tend to make the body much sorer than it has been before, but do take the Bath and follow with the oil rubs the same as before.
17. Then leave off the Atomidine for at least two weeks, but continue the Baths and the oil rubs daily.
18. Then take five drops of Atomidine each morning for three days, and have another Epsom Salts Bath, followed with the oil rubs.
19. Leave off the Atomidine for two more weeks, and take again for three days, followed by the Epsom Salts Bath.
20. And, if the mind is kept right, there should be a great change.
21. As to the mental attitude: Be good for something. Not that we are questioning the purpose or the ideals of the body, but who healeth thy diseases, who forgiveth thy iniquities? These truths ye must trust in, actively; not merely passively but actively - holding no thought of grudge of any nature toward anyone. And you will find you will be a lot better.

24. (Q) When beginning these treatments should I discontinue all that I am now taking?
    (A) As just indicated, unless there is a full trust in these suggestions, don't commence. If there is the full trust in that indicated, you won't take others. The pain may be severe, and if it becomes too severe, take the hypnotic - or be given a hypnotic, and not a narcotic.

BACKGROUND

1. 12/28/42 [779]'s ltr. to EC: "...Cayce, my best friend, [3363] here in ... is in a pretty bad shape with arthritis. It has really taken a hold on him the last six months. He is not able to work now. He had to retire as manager of a large ... Co. He suffers something awful. I have been trying to get him to see if any help could be given from one of the readings, but somehow he did not seem to consider it very much until some few days ago. Mrs. [310] took the book THERE IS A RIVER to him to read. So I was at his home last night for a visit and he asked me to tell him some more of your work. He told me he was going to write today for a reading."
2. 6/27/43 [779]'s ltr. to EC: "...I saw Mr. [3363] yesterday and he let me read your letter in regards to his reading. I am so sorry about this. I have been trying to get him to have a reading for two years and you remember he wrote for application papers last winter, but for some reason he never did until last week and at a time, as most do, put it off until all hope of help from doctors gone. He is so very disappointed of not being able to get a reading until November. He told me yesterday that he did not know what to do now as that was his only hope and last chance to get help and relief, that he suffers so much pain and said it would kill him before getting a reading in November. At the time when he made application for membership and reading, I thought he would be able to get a reading in about two or three weeks. I had no idea that it would take four months. I do feel so sorry for [3363]. He is a prince of a fellow, one of our Elders and a real man up to his failing health two years ago. He had to give up his work as ... Manager for a ... Co. and now only able to get around the house a little. The doctors have told him they didn't know the cause and have done all they know and he is now taking top amount of cocaine but at times he gets no relief and he suffers agony. I go to see him often and try to make him feel better. I don't know what he will write you about the date set. I told him yesterday that something might work out or turn up or someone may cancel request for their reading and that you may find somehow to get to it earlier than November or sooner than expected. So I don't know, Cayce, how it will work out, but it sure will be a Godsend if this man could get relief somehow. Nothing may not help, but he has such a strong constitution and fights so hard I believe if the cause is located and stopped he would snap out of it with speed..."
3. 6/30/43 EC's ltr. to [779]: "...Am sorry about the appointment for your friend, [3363] there - did the very best I could and know I am losing many opportunities to try and help, but what can a fellow do? I am only one, and when there are from five to fifteen requests per day, and you can only do two, they soon run away with you. I will be mighty happy to give him any breaks that may come up - the only trouble there, is that there are about ten requests for such breaks where one comes up. No use saying what a body should have done, but assure you will do the best we can..."
4. 8/07/43 [779]'s ltr. to EC: "...My friend, [3363], here I think understands and says he still wants a reading on the date you set. He is not any better; very bad shape. He has had several doctors here and they have gotten together and talked his case over and have told him they could not do any more and did not know what to do other than to keep up the shots and dope..."
5. 11/03/43 [3363]'s ltr. to EC: "...I wanted to ask you to add this question to be answered in your reading of November 16th. I have a small pimple on the muscle of my left arm that has been there for five or six years. Could this be the cause of my trouble and will this pimple ever cause any serious trouble.
   "With best wishes I am..."

2. 12/09/71 Letter from William F. Keller: "...In reading Jess Stearn's Edgar Cayce, I noted with much interest his references to arthritis and the use of pure Peanut Oil. As a rheumatoid arthritic I have found it to be of great benefit to my condition.
   "After using Peanut Oil as a massaging oil for several years, I have to agree with Cayce's belief that it not only lubricates, but heals as well. I am sure that had I known about the oil in this use, I would have been spared much misery.
   "Why isn't the use of pure Peanut Oil to reduce joint inflammation and pain in arthritis better known? Does the medical profession spurn it as a home remedy?
   "Do you know of any kind of an organization, formal or informal, of Peanut Oil users? This might seem a strange question, but I have heard that here in Pittsburgh there is a band of enthusiasts. I have not been able to track them down as yet.
   "I would appreciate any comment you might make on this subject or reference to literature on it that I could obtain..."
