9/09/43 Husband's ltr. to EC:
Mr. Edgar Cayce,
Virginia Beach, Va.
Dear Sir:
A friend just told me of your marvelous work this evening, in
the finding of trouble in a sick patient and giving the cure
for same.
This friend read the recent article in Coronet and was
telling me of it. It seems strange that two cases could be
so much alike, so I will tell you my story.
My wife [
3389] fell in the summer of 1941 while playing soft
ball and fractured her left knee cap. She did not go to a
doctor until in January 1942 at which time the doctor placed
her left leg in a cast and this remained there for five
weeks, after the cast was removed she went back to work and
worked until June 1, a period of about three months. On May
30, she went to a parade to see some of the boys off for the
Army, the streets were crowded and during the parade a shower
came up and she was caught in it, and a few days later the
pain that had only been in her left knee was now noticed to
be in all of her joints thus making her disable to work.
Between May 23, and June 1, we had been married, I left on
May 28, for Army and did not get a leave until four weeks
later and when I arrived home I found my wife sitting in a
chair and unable to move as freely as in time prior to my
leaving for the Army. In the meantime her doctor had been
treating her for the pain in her knee which he told her was
Arthritis, this treatment consisted of two shots a week,
which he said would cure her. After my second leave of
absence from the Army I learned that she would be disable for
some time, and I proceeded to get a discharge from the Army,
which was granted in about six weeks from that date. Upon my
arrival home my wife could manage to get from one room to
another by supporting herself on the back of a chair and
pushing it in front of her, she could still get back and
forth to the doctor's office along with my helping her to and
from the automobile. She remained in this condition for
about three months at which time the doctor thought it best
to change to a stronger medicine known as Gold Shots, and she
began to take them but after the first one she was completely
thrown off her feet from severe soreness and pain and from
then on began to get worse and the doctor had to give the
Gold Shots to her at home, these she took some forty of, and
on one occasion the doctor tried to step the shots up from
one a week to two, but the quantity was too great for it made
her break out in what was called a drug rash, and the
medicine had to be stopped for two months, and then started
again at only one shot a week, this was kept up until August
1942 when her doctor went into the service of the Navy. Then
our family doctor took over and he very frankly told us that
it was little known about Arthritis but he would do his best
to help her. He was awful discouraged with the Gold Shots
and believed that they would not help, in fact he said he
would not have given them to her if he had been on the case,
and the ones that I had bought were returned to the druggist.
Now our family doctor has been on the case for over twelve
months, and just recently had a serious heart attack of which
it is not likely he will recover. But before I go any
further I would like to state that I went to him in August of
1942 when he was first taking the case from the doctor who
was going into service and consulted him about taking my wife
to a local hospital (University of Virginia) but was informed
that it was nothing that they could do since everything had
been tried here at home that they could do over at the
University, in fact he said the case was hopeless. I have
had another doctor who also told me the same thing. But I
think they are all wrong, or rather just unable to get to her
real trouble that is causing the Arthritis. Her teeth have
been checked, rather were checked in 1942 and only one was
found that could be giving her any trouble, it was pulled,
her tonsils were removed also. Thus the fact finding stopped
and that is where you come in.
Now I want you to try through your strange and wonderful
power to see if you can give us what medical science cannot,
that is, what is standing in the way of her getting better
and how to go about the cure.
I understand that you are reasonable on your charges of same,
but I am ready to meet those only to have her up and about
again.
I am an Insurance Agent for ... Company, located in the ...
Building, ..., Virginia, you may get reference from them if
you wish and through our local Retail Merchants Association
also.
In closing may I add that one with a strong constitution has
held out this long I feel sure that if one knew the trouble
causing her this terrible suffering that she could be treated
for same and cured.
May God wonderfully bless you and keep you, and may he use
you as a servant through which he may heal as his Son once
did.
Sincerely yours, [...]
P.S. She has also had two treatments a week for about ten
months from a Chiropractor, this seems not [to] help either.
