9/15/43 [
3405]'s letter: "After reading about you in the
CORONET magazine, it gave me a new hope, hope that was
smashed more than once in my life. But now I feel that
there will be some help to me. There must be!
"Sir, I am a cripple and have been all my twenty-three years.
The doctors gave up my case many years ago, but somehow I
always prayed and prayed that God would hear my prayers,
because this suffering which I am going through is not for my
sins, I know! There must be someone in this wide world that
can be of some help to me. And I feel that that help is not
so far off. With God's help, I know that you will be of some
help to me. I was born a cripple, and at first there wasn't
much that the doctors could do to help me, but after I lived
to be ten years old, they operated on my legs (you see,
sir, I couldn't walk). After the operation I could walk
by myself.
"But as I grew older, I was getting very nervous each year.
I would get worse and yet the doctors couldn't do a thing for
me. The nervousness is so bad now that I am unable to write
with my own handwriting. That is the reason that you find
this letter typed. The nervousness is so bad that it shakes
my whole body. Even my head shakes. Oh, it is terrible to
live the way I have to suffer when there is so much to live
for!
"Mr. Cayce, if I come out to where you are, could you help
me for this nervousness? I haven't any use in my right
hand either, but that I call a small matter. If only there
was some cure to stop this nervousness, I would be, oh, so
thankful to God and to you.
"God has been so good to gift you the way He did! Please
write to me as soon as it's possible for you. I will even
send you my self addressed envelope, so as to help you speed
an answer to this letter. I will also pay you as much as I
can or whatever price you set if you can help me. Oh, there
must be some help for me! I can feel it. I will bring this
letter to its close, so that I can rush it off yet tonight.
With a prayer in my heart, I will say God bless you and help
you with the wonderful work you are doing..."
"P.S. You can see by my handwriting how nervous I really
am."
12/06/43 [
3405]'s letter to EC: "That wonderful letter dated
December 1st was greatly received.
"I am so happy that you will be able to give my reading
(physical) on December 15, at (9:30 to 10:30 our time (10:30
to 11:30 your time)). At that given time I will spend my
time in church praying. The church is located at corner of
... Streets. The name of this church is St. Joseph's Church.
"The questions about my condition which I would most of all
like to know are: Is there any cure for this nervousness?
If so, what should I do to help speed up to that date? Was I
born with this condition, or did it come on later in life?
If so, how long after birth? Should I keep the job I have
now, or should I try something better? With my condition,
what would you best advise me to be doing for my future
living? I had but few years of schooling, so there isn't
much that I can do. However, though I just have been offered
an education just a few weeks ago, but I told them that I
would have to think it over first. Do you think that I
should quit my job and see if I could take up something that
might be of some help in the future? What do you think? I
also have no use in my right hand, which makes things very
hard. I do all my typing and writing one-handed and that is
my left hand. This is all that I can think of that I would
like to know, so I will close this letter with high hopes
that you will be of some help to me. May God help you with
the work He has started you with and may He bless you. I
remain in prayer until the next time I hear from you
again..."
[In [
3405]'s own handwriting and not typed, she wrote the
following:]
"P.S. You can tell by my handwriting how nervous I am.
Please do all you can to help me. Thank you."
REPORTS
3/08/44 [
3405]'s nurse's letter to EC: "Your 'reading' of
December 17th [reading was given December 15th], 1943 and
your letter of Bulletin February 1944 has been received by
Miss [
3405].
"If you are such a believer in 'Search for God,' I believe
you will know what I'm writing to you about.
"You have never had a personal call from Miss [
3405].
Neither do you even know how serious her case really is.
She, like a lot of unfortunates, is ready to accept most
any kind of attractive offers.
"In other words, a 'target' for most anything. She has to
earn her own living and does not make much money. She needs
every penny she earns.
"I do not care to go into detail with you. You now have
$25.00 of her cash and I am going to ask you to return
this same amount back to her.
"I will expect this matter taken care of immediately to avoid
anymore trouble..."
3/14/44 EC's letter to [
3405]: "We are in receipt of a
letter from your nurse saying that you wish your membership
fee returned. I am sorry that you are not able to carry out
the applications suggested in your reading, for I believe
from past experience that you would be greatly benefited
if these applications were persistently and prayerfully
followed. It is too bad that you did not read all of our
literature and make up your mind fully beforehand to 'carry
through' with the suggestions made, before sending in your
application for a reading. It would have saved all of us a
great deal of trouble and expense. We are returning herewith
the membership fee paid in the amount of twenty dollars.
"If you ordered the Wet Cell Appliance from Mr. Godfrey in
Norfolk, I am sure that he will be glad to buy it back from
you.
"Assuring you that our only desire has been to be of service,
and trusting that you will be able to find the help you are
seeking..."
