1/08/44 Sister's letter: "We were overjoyed to receive the
reading for my sister, [
3450]. It was like the long-heralded
birth of a precious, much wanted baby! Yes, truly. We went
to work on it as soon as we had the Violet and Ultra Violet
lamps, and have been following instructions as carefully as
possible. From the start, the potato poultices brought
relief from the pain and congestion of her eyes, and have
been a real comfort. The main treatment of the lamps with
massage brings on an itching that is most disagreeable to
her, since she is so helpless. Nevertheless, she is willing
to undergo this reaction, feeling that there is no other way.
The advice in the last of the reading, i.e., to meditate and
pray, seems to be the most difficult for her because in the
past, she has not built up much trust in our Father's
abundant care and unlimited love. She does receive soul food
from weekly attendance at a Unity class, but that has been
for a few years only. When her physical condition has
noticeably changed I shall write you the glad news..."
3/16/44 Sister's letter: "During the three months since the
reading came for my sister, we have tried to carry out
instructions regarding Violet Ray with massage, Ultra Violet
once a week, and potato poultices, interspersing with a
'vacation' of five days every two weeks. Itching, however,
occasioned so much distress, partly due to her inability to
scratch that by March 4th, she refused to let me use the
Tincture of Myrrh. But I continued the treatment of Olive
Oil alone. She also changed from nightly hot baths to warm
ones, and Olive Oil is applied afterwards wherever desired to
the skin. The potato poultices do not fail to alleviate eye
congestion temporarily. On account of her apprehension of
choking on fish bones, we supply the additional seafood by
giving her daily one teaspoon pacific kelp. The important
advice regarding deep meditation and prayer remains the least
considered and the mental attitude toward her disease,
acceptance of the medical verdict, is undoubtedly the
obstacle to recovery. Yet the fact that she is willing to
keep up the physical treatment indicates the flow of hope
still active within her, and we know that the victorious
spirit of God is performing its miracle of transmutation
regardless of all appearances. This winter would have been a
very sad one here if it had not been for the beautiful
service rendered by Edgar Cayce..."
5/12/44 Sister's letter: "June 8th will be six months since
she was fortunate enough to obtain her valuable Physical
reading. When I reported her progress in March, I was, at
her request, temporarily discontinuing use of Tincture of
Myrrh because of her distressful itching. However, after a
few weeks she let me resume its use, and we have tried to
follow the schedule as closely as possible in other respects.
I feel positive she has made some improvement, but with the
warmer weather, she is becoming rather annoyed by the
frequent use of the Violet Ray. We would consider a Check
reading most gratifying at this period, to determine whether
treatment as now being given should be changed in some
way..."
6/19/44 Questions submitted:
1. Does the Violet Ray have to be continued during the heat
of the summer, or is it advisable to do so?
2. Is itching an unavoidable accompaniment to progress?
3. Is there a more practical way than used at present to
clear mucus from throat?
4. Will it be advisable to spend more time outdoors during
warm weather?
5. Could the diet be improved?
6. Should shortwave diathermy be resumed?
