This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Va. Beach, Va., this 10th day of January, 1944, in accordance with request made by the self - Mr. [3541], new Associate Member of the Ass'n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

Present: Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Jeanette Fitch, Stenos. Harmon Bro. Born August 23, 1889, in Duluth, Minnesota.

TEXT

1. GC: You will give the relations of this entity and the universe, and the universal forces; giving the conditions which are as personalities, latent and exhibited in the present life; also the former appearances in the earth planes, giving time, place and the name, and that in each life which built or retarded the development for the entity; giving the abilities of the present entity, that to which it may attain, and how. You will answer the questions, as I ask them:
2. EC: [In going back over years to birth date:] A new cycle. Pretty high on the vibration. [Duluth, Minn.]
3. Yes, we have the records here of that entity now known as or called [3541].
4. In analyzing the records as we find them here, when they are viewed from a purely material angle, it is little wonder that the body gets the ideas that he is a little bit better than most people. Yet that is why the injunction was written, "One shall not think more highly of self than one ought to think."
5. In analyzing the records, then, we would choose from the records here that which we find may be helpful to the entity, indicating how and why the application of certain tenets or truths in the regular experience of the entity would be helpful.
6. For this particular entity, the abilities are such that if the mental and spiritual balance were corrected you would not need to know as to whether you were a horseshoer or carpenter, or those people that you were in various experiences. But apply those abilities that are latent and manifested. The entity may make for itself and its environs whatever it would choose to do or to make. For as the pattern has been set, the entity has been in many, many varied experiences in the earth and thus becomes quite an emotional individual. Quite easily moved at times to activities that are oft questioned by others and then guessed at by self.
7. Yet those abilities as a leader, as a director of groups or as a salesman, may bring to the entity the channels through which the greater, the material, as well as mental and spiritual self may unfold.
8. But first we would give these: Know that all that comes into materialization or into physical being is first patterned in mind and in spirit. Mind is the builder, and your purpose is dependent upon what spirit - or what mortar, what water - those things that go to make materiality active in the earth - you use, as to what is the character of the body mind or structure that ye, as an entity, create.
9. Just as in the activities in directing those associates about you, if ye become interested in others, others are interested in you! Are ye selfish in all your planning, no matter how you may cover it up with pretty words, if it is for yourself you are using the selfish spirit; then it becomes as the Frankenstein in thyself before it is through. You have experienced some such. You know what is meant. If you attempt to become active in selling to others, unless there is the same sincerity in that approach to selling - as if you were in the other individual's place and you present what you are selling in the spirit of cooperation - again it may turn upon thee and devour thy very self.
10. For the law of the Lord is perfect and ye as a child of the divine may apply it to the works of thy Lord and Savior, or to His wayward son, Satan.
11. Astrologically we find the urges latent and manifested in Mars, Mercury, Jupiter and Venus.
12. A very active individual; you are going to be doing something, even if it is doing wrong. That is to your credit, not to your discredit. But keep on doing something, and if ye seek with sincerity you will be given the way. It is he who is satisfied, who sits down, who fails. Who lost his talent? The man that was afraid, or the man who was vigorous and active? In thy experiences, then, seek first to know thyself and apply thyself in making thy own paths straight. Or, better illustrated first behold the beam that is in thine own eye and you'll see more clearly to remove the mote from thy brother's eye. So it is in thy dealings and in thy activities.
13. In Mercury, we find judgment when tempered with mercy and with brotherly love.
14. In Jupiter, we find that universal consciousness, that desire of the entity to always be meddling in other people's business - to their help! This, too, is a virtue. But know that you are right, know in whom you have believed, as well as in what you believe, and who is the author of thy ideal - whether in spirit, in mind, or in material things. And know that each phase of thy experience - mind, body, soul - needs to be cultivated. You have to feed the physical body, don't you? Then feed your mind, and study to know with what spirit ye feed it. Feed this with a regular diet for the spirit and mind of the body, and remember, you'll need as much vitamin in the spirit as you will in the physical being!
15. As to the appearances in the earth, these have been quite varied and yet the pattern has always been as the leader and thus the entity should be a leader in its own environ in the present, WHEN it has set its own house in order.
16. Before this the entity was in the land of the present nativity, during those early periods of the activities now called the American Revolution. The entity was among those who lived adjoining to one Israel Putnam - yes, carried his ox back to the house when Israel went off and left him to join the Army!
17. The entity, then in the name Michael Carlson, because of its age kept, as it were, in the correct sense, the home fires burning for those who suffered hardships for a purpose, for a freedom, for an activity that has yet not reached its full zenith in this land for which the entity labored.
18. Then the entity gained, for it had an ideal and it went about helping its fellow man, not only in his own place but in giving patterns, as it were, tenets and truths to others. Oft in an uncouth manner, as some termed it, but in a manner which is still among those things that the young in America look forward to.
19. Before that the entity was in the Norse land when as Elson, with Olson, he prepared horses for the invasion to that now known as the Hun land - which will within a short period AGAIN feel the heel of the Norse peoples.
20. The entity then was what we would call today a blacksmith, a horseshoer, a girdle-builder. In these, then, the entity aided in preparing equipment for individuals and groups of the characters which represented or helped the people. As has been indicated the more oft the entity has been willing to be the unseen force behind the scenes, which have caused great changes in the realm of thinking, in the realm of acting and activity of peoples.
21. Before that the entity learned the same lesson in the experience when the Master walked in tho land, when the entity was among those that were of the seventy, and yet turned back. But later in the experience, the entity became one of those who aided in activities in establishing united efforts in Bethesda.
22. Not known or spoken of in the records we HAVE, he was yet ever thee figure behind those who were the moving influence of causes and purposes.
23. And so may the entity yet be the leader, as he was in those experiences in the name Bethelda.
24. Before that the entity was in the China land or Mongoloid land, in the cities that have been obliterated by sands and insects.
25. The entity was what would be called today a writer of sayings that became as truths or as proverbs or as tenets or as teachings or sentence-sermons, as they might be called in the present.
26. The entity was still the figure that aided and helped from behind through those periods of activity in the land.
27. Before that the entity was in the Atlantean land when there were those breakings up of the land, and the entity was with many of those that went to the land now known as or called the Spanish land.
28. While many of the people changed to the Egyptian land, the entity, in the name Armath, remained in the Pyrenean areas and there established those tenets and truths that aided much until hordes from the African land brought destruction to those peoples.
29. As to the abilities of the entity, then: As indicated, what you set your head to do, you can do. But first analyze thyself, and may it not be better said that "Study to show thyself approved Unto God, a workman not ashamed, rightly dividing the words of truth, keeping self unspotted from the world." Rightly stress those tenets of the first things first, asking no one to do that ye would not do yourself, giving of thy strength in service for a purpose, knowing the Lord hath need of THEE, if ye have need of the Lord.
