Dear Mr. Cayce:
RE: YOUR LETTER OF NOVEMBER 26, 1943
My wife has suffered with arthritis for the past twelve
years, and for the past four years has been entirely
bedridden. She has tried many treatments including the
following:
Diathermy (This has been tried at several stages of her
affliction); Massage.
Several months at Richfield Springs, N.Y. taking hot sulphur
water baths, sulphur injections, drinking sulphur water.
Epsom Salt baths, as hot as bearable. These have been tried
at several different stages, also. The time last applied,
she took 50 during a period of approximately 4 months, in
conjunction with regular swedish massage treatments.
Spent three weeks in Roosevelt Hospital under observation,
and was given all known tests pertaining to arthritis in an
effort to locate the so-called focus of infection. None was
found, but she had her tonsils removed and then received
injections of a serum made from the tonsils.
About this time she also had all teeth x-rayed and had
several removed.
For a period of many months made regular visits to Dr. Eaton
in New York City and received injections.
Has been placed on many different diets. Has taken large
quantities of citrus fruits and their juices. The latest
diet, which she adhered to for a full year was a saltless and
meatless diet - with the exception of liver twice a week, and
consisted mainly of fresh vegetables and vegetable juices,
and fruits, especially apples. During this period she was
cared for by a physiotherapist who applied diathermy twice
every day, and gave daily massage. Also had her leg placed
in a plaster cast, but all with no beneficial results.
Most recently she has tried to take high potency Vitamin D
preparations including Ertron, and Drisdoll but has been
unable to continue them because they caused great nausea, hot
flushes and increase in blood pressure.
Nothing has checked the onset of the disease, until at the
present time she is practically helpless from the waist down.
Her entire body is quite painful, particularly the left hip
and both knees. Practically all joints have been affected,
fingers and toes being especially deformed. She is able to
use her arms, hands and upper body to some extent, but can
only rest on her back or in a sitting position supported with
pillows. Cannot turn on either side for more than a few
minutes at a time, due to extreme pain in the hip joints.
At the present time is receiving light massage with cold
cream, which alleviates the dryness of her skin caused by the
fever.
You will understand from the above that she will be unable to
follow any treatment which necessitates moving her from bed.
At the date of her reading, January 15 from 3:30 to 4:30 P.M.
EWT, my wife will be at her home in ..., New York. Needless
to say, we shall be anxiously awaiting the report of her
reading.
Yours very sincerely, [...]

Re: Reading January 15th, 1944 for [

York
Dear Mr. Cayce:
In regard to the treatment outlined for me as a result of the
above reading, I find that at this point I am not quite sure
just how to interpret some of your instructions, so am
writing for your advice.
Due to one or two severe, and painful, flare-ups in my
arthritis, and also to the difficulty we had in obtaining
some of the medications prescribed, I was unable to begin
your course of treatment until recently.
In accordance with your directions, I took the Atomidine
internally for three days in succession, for two periods, and
then began taking the Chloride of Gold and the Bromide of
Soda each night when being prepared for bed. Also the
colonics as directed. It will soon be time for me to have
the first bee sting injection. Everything is clear, until
after that point in your instructions, when you say "Do
these, and when these have been taken for five months, we
would give further instructions."
Now, my question is this. After the bee sting injection, do
I start all over again with the Atomidine, and so on until
after roughly five weeks, it is time for another bee sting
injection? Or have I now finished entirely with the
Atomidine, and do I just continue with the Chloride of Gold
and Bromide of Soda for another month, and then have another
bee sting injection? Also, have I interpreted your
instructions correctly when I understand that I am to have
the bee sting injection no oftener than once a month?
I would appreciate your explicit directions on these points,
so that I may be sure of following your treatment exactly.
Part of your treatment mentions Cabinet Sweats with
witchhazel fumes. No doubt my letter did not make it
sufficiently clear that I cannot be moved from my bed at all.
If an emergency arose it would have to be done with a
stretcher, and then only with the most excruciating pain on
my part, as I can now only stay in a semi-reclining position
in bed. Therefore, for physical reasons I shall be unable to
carry out that part of your treatment, but everything else is
being carried out exactly.
Thank you very much for straightening me out on the points
mentioned above.
Yours very truly, [

Dear Mrs. [
3561]:
Yours of the 6th has been received.
As I interpret from the information attempted for you, every
series of treatments should be carried all the way through.
After you have worked up, then the injection of the bee sting
your last three or four days, then begin the whole series all
over again and commence to take the Atomidine.
As for the sweats or fume baths, this would be better if you
could have a nurse or an attendant to place you under the
blanket and give it to you right in your bed. This would be
fine and would take a lot of hardship off of you. Maybe
there will be a little bit of trouble, but I am sure if you
heat the blanket and dampen it with witchhazel, and let
yourself sweat, you will find it to be a a real, real help
for you.
After you have followed this for three or four months, do let
us hear from you.
Thanks, and with every good wish, I remain
Sincerely, Edgar Cayce [EC/gm]
