8/43 Letter: "Truthfully, I don't know which type of reading
I need most. My life seems empty and worthless and it is -
and I am pretty fed up with it and myself, but I don't know
what to do about it. Inside of me, though perhaps no one may
know it, I am distraught and desperate. Oh I know there are
lots of people worse off than I, but perhaps they have some
purpose in living. How can I make my life different. That
is what I am hoping to find out from you in the Life Reading.
What am I fit for? In the physical reading will you seek
to find if my fall (on my spine and if the bone and nerve
formation at the end) before I entered high school affected
me in any way and also these things: the accident I had as
a child and the bumps I received on my head. Has the bump
anything to do with the reason my hair is falling out -
deadened the nerves or something, or is this due to a lack of
vitamins or nerves? Am I on the verge of a nervous breakdown
or do I have a nervous malady or affliction? What is
wrong with my stomach or various glands inside of me? That
strange "mind-meandering" around Xmas time - was that due
to poor blood circulation in my system or emotional upset or
something else? Am I physically, mentally, emotionally ill,
maladjusted or neurotic? How can I conquer this - whatever
it is that is wrong with me? Am I afraid of something.
Why do my fingers twitch occasionally and my limbs move
without voluntary wish on my part? Is what is wrong with me
emotionally all my fault or partially due to my environment?
Am I really as helpless, incompetent and odd as my mother
tells me? There is a boy (my one chance at happiness or
even a reasonable facsimile of worthwhile living, I think but
I will have you guide me on that) for whom I have a lot of
respect and admiration, but am I worthy of him? Can I make
him happy? I want to marry him, yet I am afraid. Perhaps
if I have children, I'll make them unhappy and stupid as I've
been. Am I stupid or ignorant or do I have some intelligence
- something worthwhile in me? I need some sort of guide or
advise if I am going to do anything with my life. Please
help me. I feel very weak right now. I don't know if it's
because of the day I spent in Chicago yesterday or if its
partially due to what my mother said before I started. But
I have been feeling funny ever since she said what she said -
a sort of stiffness started to go through my bones. Perhaps
it was a fear of some sort and perhaps it's being upset.
I don't know anything any more, I guess. why am I so
forgetful? It can hardly be a personality trait considering
the extent to which it is done now. It is, I hope, a vitamin
deficiency? I know that my sister has a poor memory at times
but it is not as extreme as mine."
10/03/43 Letter: "I don't know what I'd do right now if there
wasn't you to turn to to help me physically, emotionally
and intellectually at this point of my life. I have often
thought it would take a miracle to change things for me now.
Perhaps your gift is that miracle. I hope so."
REPORTS
8/12/45 Letter: "Around the time for my Mental and Spiritual
reading I should have written you. I was worried and my head
was then filled with so many things and plans. As a matter
of fact my life reading reached me on my honeymoon. My I
felt so important. It's a wonderful work that you are doing.
Since then I have traveled around the countryside and I have
put off writing again for one foolish reason or another...
I have felt as if I'm going to need your help again and have
been feeling that for a long time... I was so afraid that
perhaps I would discover that you could not or would not give
me the readings and help me solve some of my problems that
I actually hated to write and find out - so I put it off...
There are questions concerning my marriage I would like
to have you help me solve and also readings for my husband
and sister... My husband is in the service, does not know
whether or not he should stay in... Your Life readings for
me said I would be good at art, music and clothes. I got
as far as inquiring about an art book and trying to sketch
a cover of Coronet. As a first try it didn't look so bad.
I never thought I could do anything like that, though I
remember that in the 4th or 5th grade, I have 'itchy fingers'
and started sketching little things instead of paying any
attention to my arithmetic. I also rented a piano while we
were up here, but soon afterwards we learned my husband was
to be transferred and I am to join him at a later date, so we
decided against starting lessons. This Army living has been
no help in doing something about your help. But even if
I have not done much about it yet, there is something very
comforting and stabilizing in knowing that one's individual
qualifications have been discovered - that is is no longer a
'hit and miss' affair in trying to find out what to do about
your life."
6/19/50 Letter: "I am hoping that this letter will be sent
through the right channels so that I may secure a duplicate
of an reading I had some six years ago."
