Mr. Edgar Cayce,
Virginia Beach, Va.
My dear Mr. Cayce:
We have just had a letter from Bishop [
3717], Mr. Cayce, in
which he tells us that he is a bit discouraged with his Pad -
as you know we sent him the Double Strength $30 Pad back late
in August.
We never write at length to any of your clients, Mr. Cayce -
feeling that you prefer handling these people yourself. But
out of courtesy to Bishop [
3717] we felt that we should at
least respond to his note. We simply assured him that his
Pad was not defective in any way, that we had sent him this
Pad at your request; urged him to be patient and persist with
it, and asked him to send us a report later on.
If we were handling this case ourselves, we would have gone
into detail more about the Pad, and would have given some
diet hints. But, of course, as we have said, we never go
into detail with any of your clients, Mr. Cayce. I believe
at one time you requested this, did you not?

Gentlemen:-
Replying to yours of the 20th, regarding the applicator for
Bishop [
3717], will say that we have seen him recently and I
think he will give you a different report, if he reports in
keeping with what he told us.
As to the Pad for Miss [
569], you no doubt will hear from her
again in the very near future.
I don't know whether Miss [
5441] and the order for Miss
[
4253] has been received by you or not. I feel sure you
will hear from one - possibly from both of them. Certainly
hope that all get results from the use of the appliance. I
believe they will if they will follow the instructions.
Thanking you, I am
Sincerely, Edgar Cayce EC:GD
10/22/28 EC's letter:
Dear Bishop [
3717]:-
Have thought of you quite often since you were here and
wondered how you were getting along. I want to ask a
special favor of you, if it is at all possible for you to
grant it. I would like for you to be present at the service
we will have at the building we are erecting here, as I would
like for you to offer the prayer at this dedicatory service.
You no doubt will have your official notice from the
Association, but this is rather a personal matter, to be
sure, and I felt - from our meeting and our little personal
visit together - that I would like for you to officiate in
that capacity, if you would kindly do so. Won't you let me
know regarding this?
With kindest personal regards from all the family, and from
myself, I am
Sincerely, Edgar Cayce EC:GD.

Mr. Edgar Cayce
Virginia Beach, Virginia
My dear Mr. Cayce,
Your letter has come and I am much interested in the opening
of the new building to which you invite me. I very much wish
I could attend the opening and have the privilege of making
the dedicatory prayer but unfortunately I am booked to speak
twice in ... on Armistice Day, and I fear it is too late to
be released from these appointments. I feel very guilty in
not granting the request you made of me. You have done so
much for me that it seems the least I could do for you. I
hope you will understand and feel that I would certainly
come if it were within the range of possibility.
I enjoyed my visit to you in September very much and shall
look forward to repeating it some time in the winter. I
have been so busy since my return to ... that I have quite
overlooked sending you enclosed remittance. Please forgive
me.
Yours very sincerely,

[same letterhead as Par. R1]
Just a little note, Mr. Cayce, to thank you for sending me
a copy of the address given by Dr. Brown at your dedication
ceremonies. I was particularly glad to get this for it gives
me some light now on the subject of your work, which I am
frank to say, I didn't comprehend before. I couldn't in my
own mind quite figure out how you brought in the Pads with
your Work - now it is very plain to me.
Just as Dr. Brown says in his address "this 'Experimental
Laboratory' is for the utilization of any knowledge, any
discovery, any invention which will make life fuller and
richer for human beings, and nothing is banned except
trickery, sham, and falsehood." And he further says that it
is an attempt to bring every kind of truth together - work
everything you can together for the benefit of mankind.
There is a great deal in Dr. Brown's address that stands out
to me - a part that I like to dwell on particularly is where
he says "the art of learning is not how to make a living, but
how to make a LIFE!" And another good thought he expresses
is "The true test of the man is what he can stand,
physically, mentally, morally, and spiritually."
It might interest you to know, Mr. Cayce, that we had a brief
note from Bishop [
3717] yesterday in which he ordered covers
for his Pad and in this note he tells us that he has noticed
a decided gain in his general condition since using this
treatment. In acknowledging his letter, we made the
suggestions that perhaps later on he would like to trade in
his $30 Pad for one of the Physician's Special $50 models.
We hope that in doing this we haven't made a suggestion that
you feel is unwise.
We hope just as you do, Mr. Cayce, that as your work
progresses there in the hospital, we can work together
to our mutual advantage.
With kindest personal regards,
Most cordially yours, [signed] John R. Dutcher
