1/04/50 GD's note: Mr. [
5717] wrote a short introduction to
this material [[
3744] series], as follows:
Lest there be undue prejudice existing in opposition to this
type of information this foreword briefly presents the
purpose of the material.
The general tendency of people to shrink from matters of an
occult nature is but an evidence of superstition, and a lack
of willingness to open their minds to receive the truth.
It may be interesting to you to be reminded that the greatest
commonsense philosophy that was ever given to the world came
from Socrates immediately following a twenty-four hour state
of trance, during which his soul winged heavenward, whither
no eye could follow.
One should ever be reminded that,
"God works in a mysterious way,
His wonder to perform." [Tenneyson's Idylls of the King]
If we will but consider open-mindedly the effects of unseen
forces upon our lives, we will do well for our own
self-development, and the development of others with whom we
may come in contact.
The purpose of presenting this material is to assist people
in the understanding of themselves, and the natural laws
affecting their lives.
There are many influences in life which tend to help man to
understand himself, in order that he may, through his
knowledge and understanding of self, live in greater harmony
toward his fellow man.
Such matters as Psychic Phenomena, Astrology, Evolution,
etc., are puzzling the average mind today [
1923]. We are
presenting here a general way some interesting questions and
answers relative thereto.
The mirrors of nature are ever before us, if we will but use
the senses with which we are endowed.
The reflections from the interconscious [EC's contacts with
the universal forces] are, we believe, of sufficient interest
and merit to be worthy of careful study and serious thought.
Man apparently, knows very little of the unseen forces, yet
he is daily affected by their action. This lack of knowledge
is due largely to traditional superstition and our fear of
the real truth.
The more we really study of the dynamic power of forces
unseen, the more we develop toward the higher realms of
thought, and realize how many things affect our destiny, of
which we have little or no knowledge.
The psychic work of Edgar Cayce, during the last twenty odd
years, [remember this was in 1923] has called forth such
favorable comment as to merit the presentation of these
helpful truths, given while in the superconscious state. The
logic of the answers reflects an intelligence that will
challenge the minds of our great scholars. Such subjects as:
EVOLUTION - With reference to the human family.
ASTROLOGY - The effect of the planets on your life and mine,
and that master study of all, the development of the human
mind and soul - REINCARNATION, etc.
The puzzles of time immemorial are within these pages,
answered in such a way as to make all thinking people realize
that Shakespeare was right when he said,
"There is a destiny which shapes our ends,
Rough hew them how we will."
The purpose of this presentation is not to establish a new
faith or sect, but rather to give the greater increase in
knowledge of the soul forces for the best development of the
human family. We may agree or disagree on such matters as:
EVOLUTION - and man's development.
PSYCHIC PHENOMENA - Is it real or imaginary?
ASTROLOGY - The planet's effect on our destiny.
REINCARNATION - Be it a myth or fact?
THOUGHT TRANSFERENCE - Its possibilities.
RELATIVITY OF FORCE - and its influence in life.
The fact remains that the human mind is the active principle
that governs man, for through the mind our thoughts evolve to
deeds in action, and are the elements of force that influence
our destiny in conjunction with our will.
Whither are we bound, shall only be determined by our
thoughts.
For thoughts are deeds [
254-12 Par. 2]
And while their currents run
From mind to mind
The goodly work is done.
Then give more thoughts,
For they are forces strong,
That lead men on their way,
Some right, and some quite wrong.
GD's note: See Reports of Reading
2265-1 letter of
12/18/23
in submitting a paragraph (via Mr. [
953]) for possible
inclusion in above background material.
For purposes of continuity, readings 3744-2 through
3744-5
are paragraphed sequentially even though the readings were
given on four separate dates. For example,
3744-3 continues
with Par. 11-A where 3744-2 ended, etc.
Mamie Rosenberg was stenographer for the first two readings
and Gladys Davis was steno for the last two. The readings
were obtained
10/08/23, 3:00 P.M.;
10/09/23, 11:00 A.M.;
11/24/23, 3:30 P.M.; and
2/14/24, 3:00 P.M., at the Phillips
Hotel, Dayton, Ohio.
See
254-4 naming this book of readings PSYCHIC PHENOMENA
THROUGH THE SUBLIMINAL. In the [
254] series of readings on
"the work" and in Mr. [
900]'s readings further questioning
took place expanding on the answers in the [
3744] series.
REPORTS
See
3744-3 continuing the [
3744] series with Par. 11-A
through Par. 28-A.
