(Q) Please describe the burying of the treasure at the time
it was buried.
(A) As we find, this the indications: These the conditions
as surrounded when L. N. [or Ellen (?)] George, the paymaster
here, received the money in gold and in silver. There was
more than a washing tub full, and the preparations were to
pay off, and they were in the tent - or the keeper here on
the side of the hill, that came from the bridge that used to
cross over same - when they were attacked in the early
morning - the fires were all burning for the preparations for
the meals - they were attacked from the South by the
Confederate forces, and this was hurriedly dug by the side of
those rocks in which the camp fires, or the foods were being
prepared for that particular portion of the tent, see? of
the camp - paymaster's - when it was hurriedly dumped in.
Afterwards George and those associated with him - one was
first taken prisoner, others were killed as they fled
northward and toward the east - see? Whole washing tub full.
Others, you see, were scattered in other places - these were
of much smaller denominations.
We are through for the present.
