This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 23rd day of March, 1944, in accordance with request made by the husband, Mr. [...], new Associate Member of the Ass'n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by the book, THERE IS A RIVER.

TEXT

1. GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:
2. EC: Yes, we have the body here, [4015].
3. As we find, the greater disturbance here is the after effect of an attack of intestinal flu that has produced inflammation through the alimentary canal, so that in and through the colon there are those tendencies for all foods taken to cause gas formations, giving suppressions to the activities of the organs of the central blood supply and nerve supply; affecting at times the lungs, heart, liver and kidneys. Yet the causes are through the colon area.
4. If administrations are made to first cleanse or purify the colon, and then those properties taken internally to aid in bringing the proper gastric flow and lymph circulation through these body-forces, we may remove the tensions in the activities and bring better conditions for the body.
5. Begin with having at least two colonic irrigations, ten days apart. Have these scientifically given.
6. Then begin with the general relaxation osteopathically along the whole cerebrospinal system.
7. Also begin about the same time to take internally these properties, prepared in this manner:
8. Make a fusion of Wild Ginseng, by adding a dram of Ginseng with sufficient water and alcohol to make two ounces.
9. Add a fusion of Wild Ginger, by preparing twenty grains with sufficient water and alcohol to make one-half ounce.
10. Then add two ounces of Elixir of Lactated Pepsin.
11. The dose of this mixture would be a teaspoonful three times each day.
12. Do these and we will make for better conditions with this body.
13. Ready for questions.
14. (Q) Will this treatment eliminate the trouble with the sick headaches which occur each month or sometimes more often?
    (A) These occur from the pressures indicated with these activities of the Periods combined with the condition through the colon.
    These treatments should clarify and rectify those disturbances, bringing better conditions for the body.

BACKGROUND

1. 5/24/43 [4015]'s husband's letter to EC:
   Mr. Edgar Cayce Virginia Beach, Va.
   Dear Mr. Cayce:
   We have just completed the reading of Mr. Thomas Sugrue's book "There is a River." It was picked up by chance in our County Library and we feel it must have been a preordained selection because my wife has for years prayed for relief, and has been to innumerable doctors from Michigan to California, and no help has been found. Now thru your "Gift" we feel certain that knowledge will be available to discern where the difficulty lies so that remedial steps may be taken to secure normalcy.
   The trouble has been diagnosed as toxic hyperthyroid, yet treatment for same does not relieve the terrible sick-headaches which occur each month or sometime oftener.
   If it is at all possible we wish at his time to place this as a request for a reading in the near future. I am writing this now as [4015] is at the moment just recovering from a siege which has lasted three days. We will both be only too glad to join the Association, and I am accordingly enclosing a stamped self addressed envelope for your convenience.
   Personally I shall be very interested in learning more of the activities of the Association, and will appreciate anything you may be able to furnish to me, especially on the metaphysical concepts.
