(Q) You will describe the condition in the ears, nose and
throat and tell what should be done to relieve same.
(A) In the ears, nose and throat, we find that tissue, as
is affected by cold and congestion, shows the effect of the
congestion by pressure on those centers of the sensory system
as govern the functioning of the system in respect to the
functioning of organs as controlled in these portions of
body. In nasal choked, and the passages show the effect of
the accumulation of drosses not eliminated in other portions
of system. In throat pressure shown, that the reflection
from the inflammation produced there produces toxins in the
tonsils and in bronchials and larynx. The effect of the
pressure through the 2nd, 3rd nerve branches in face affect
that circulation along the Eustachian Tube. Hence the
ringing and unpleasant sounds and pains to the ear, for the
pressure being depressed internal, the exterior pressure
becomes too severe on the drum, see? Then, the relief
for that portion: Small doses of Coco-Quinine, with the
manipulation and stimulation to the system of those centers
governing these portions of the body (the cervical, see?),
and this used as an inhalant (ONLY inhalant), taken in
nostrils and in mouth, see?
Grain Alcohol..................4 ounces,
Eucalyptol....................15 minims,
Canadian Balsam................3 minims,
Oil of Turp....................2 minims,
Rectified Creosote.............2 minims,
Liquid Tincture of Tolu, or
Tolu in solution...........20 minims.
Keep this in a container with glass or rubber stopper. Shake
solution well together and inhale by drawing in through
nostrils or into the mouth, see, the fumes from same. This
may be taken two, three, four times a day, or when necessary.
This we find will remove this condition. To be sure, there
must be kept the eliminations throughout the intestinal
tract, and the diet must be looked after; while these
conditions are showing their improvement, same do we find
FROM this, this temperature is showing again, as we see.
Also the rash as is produced in capillary circulation, for
an overcharge or an excess of elimination coming through
lymphatics. Turned then, as is seen by the action of the
Coco-Quinine. Small doses given often - two or three days,
see, to act on liver and reduce the condition, see? Then,
bowels must be kept open, even though enemas may be resorted
to at times.
(Q) Should the tonsils be removed?
(A) Not yet.
(Q) What is the condition of the blood now?
(A) Very good. Overcharged, as given, in capillary
circulation, by congestion, see? as the effects are seen, as
given, in the sensory system, in the liver, in the capillary
and lymphatic circulation.
(Q) How often should the Coco-Quinine be given and just how
much at each dose?
(A) About a quarter teaspoonful given about three times,
four times each day, for two or three days. Rest a day,
two days - then give, repeating the dose, see?
(Q) What temperature should her bath be, and how often
should she be bathed while she has the cold? Does she
still need the salt baths?
(A) Salt bath may be given occasionally. Temperature
should be that as is best to the body's own temperament, see?
eight-nine to ninety - ninety-eight, see? and the evening
time of bath, and every evening.
(Q) Does she need the cocoa butter rubs now?
(A) Stimulating - why leave off? After bath, rub them in.
(Q) Does she need any special kind of water, as lithia
spring water?
(A) No special kind, other than that which will be found
here - in ..., Ga., see? unless all the change is to be
made, in medicinal properties and every other thing to be
given that's to be carried, and CONSISTENCY would be the
better with this.
(Q) Now, regarding the diet, which is best for her to eat on
her cereals, sugar or dates?
(A) We would alternate.
(Q) Should she eat cornflakes put up by Kellogg?
(A) These are very good.
(Q) Can she eat raw mellow apples, scraped?
(A) Certain kinds may be, as has been given.
(Q) Should she eat rabbit?
(A) Any wild game good for the body - never fried though.
(Q) Should she have any honey at all?
(A) Honey in the honeycomb good.
(Q) Should she have canned blackberries and canned
pineapple?
(A) NO canned blackberries! Pineapples may be, in small
quantities.
(Q) Is there any special tonic she needs at this time?
(A) None other than that as has been given, see? that
is, at the present time. The Quinine, the manipulations,
especially in the cervical and in that portion of system to
produce the action of the kidneys, keeping and cleansing the
system. The inhalant as is given - a stimulant to the mucus
membrane of nose, throat, and an active principle to the
pulmonaries, clarifying blood and acting on kidneys, see?
Then the diet, as has been outlined, and the general
consistent, systematic conditions for the body.
We are through with this reading.
BACKGROUND
1/05/26 Mother [
4280]'s letter: "...I trust all is well with
you and yours and that you haven't had 'flu' as so many here
have had. [
4281] had an attack of flu three weeks ago, but
got better and enjoyed the Christmas, then last Thursday the
31st she had a relapse and has been suffering severely with
her ears - nose all stopped up and can't hardly get her
breath at night. Her ears ache so, and she cries with them,
her throat is all sore and her temperature has been running
from 1-1/2 to 2 degrees again. Dr. Layne is anxious for you
to go over her case again and see what she needs to eat at
this time. There are so few vegetables now... She looks so
yellow again and temperature so high that we are afraid of
pneumonia... We have had continual rain here for three weeks
and [
4281] hasn't been out of doors for three weeks - too
wet for her - and I think this has caused her relapse. Mr.
[
4283] and I are so anxious for her to be able to play and
run like other children. It seems that I will have to take
her back to Dr. Layne for treatment, though he has been
coming up twice each week to treat her... We hope to be in
a position soon so we can send you a real offering. We are
so grateful for all your kindness to [
4281]... [
4281] sent
you a few pecans at Christmas. Hope you received them. She
picked them up...
[
4281] is in bed and feels so weak. She is broken out with a
rash. We think it is indigestion caused by too much acid in
her system. Please see if that is the cause and what must
I do to relieve her. The rash itches so it worries her very
much..."
