Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Cayce
Virginia Beach, Va.
Dear Folks:-
Your Hospital fund appeal received. It distresses me that I
cannot respond even in the least way! All I can do is to
wish you "God Speed" in your nobel efforts and work! You see
at Mr. [...]'s death, I was thrown upon my own resources,
which were very limited as I was thus as now, in ill health,
and fifty years old to begin being buffeted about. Nine
years (over) older now further handicaps me, so that I am
powerless to do as I'd like. My goal (to get strong enough
to resume light nursing) seems far off, and beyond my reach.
I am not PROGRESSING at ALL TOWARD BETTER HEALTH under
present methods which I am using - but my faith in your
ability does not diminish ONE BIT, - it's simply that I feel
my case is too OBSTINATE to YIELD.
Five weeks ago I contracted a very peculiar cold coughed day
& nite & ran slight temperature latter part of days. Had
most peculiar distress in head & entire neck, - took two
osteopath treatments a wk. but had to suspend use of Mr.
Brown's Applicator (was too ill). I have taken 14 osteopath
treatments - and ten Applicator treatments toward my
ADDITIONAL 30 days trial use - which Mr. Brown extended. (So
many of the first 30 were taken under wrong directions, you
know.)
I wish I could say that they BENEFIT me, or that I could see
SOMETHING which they do! The Applicator is the most
discouraging of anything I've ever tried! After using it all
summer & fall, I am not SURE that I am using it RIGHT, YET!
Recently in correspondence with Mr. Brown, he reminded me
that I was to have the silver nitrate solution, made with
alcohol, whereupon I replied that my last reading did not say
so, & that I had asked for the reading expressly to learn the
correct solutions for the Applicator. Of course he
acquiesced to your prescription, but it has left me feeling
in DOUBT, & UNEASY.
You advised 10% solution of tincture of iron which I procured
& used; but recently when needing a FRESH supply, the
druggist got me all mixed up by saying that 10% could mean
TWO WAYS. - 13% is FULL STRENGTH TINCTURE or as I would say
13/13. - 3% less would be 10/13, almost full strength, you
see. THAT could or is called 10% tincture of iron. But, ONE
TENTH of full tincture (13/13) - that is - 1 part, to 9 parts
water, is the other 10% tinct. iron. - THIS is very WEAK in
iron - the kind I have used ever since my LAST READING. Up
to that time, I had used full strength tinct. as directed.
I tried to explain the difference in these two 10% tinctures
to Mr. Brown, yet in his letter this week, he advised 50%
addition of alcohol, to my present solution (as alcohol is a
better carrier) but as you can see, that would never do. The
solution is ALREADY SO WEAK. The bottles for solutions
furnished with applicator are only 2 oz. size. Mr. Brown has
ALWAYS referred to them as 4 oz. SIZE. Therein may lie the
error - as a 4 oz bottle would hold more iron (2 oz. of iron
& 2 of alcohol) - see? I have asked him to be more explicit.
Please tell me whether I am to follow his advice or not? And
if I should have the silver nitrate also made with alcohol?
I feel that I cannot afford another Reading just to consider
this same thing over again.
But if I thot there was any CHANCE of any OTHER METHOD being
prescribed & GIVING UP the APPLICATOR, I would certainly
sanction it with all HASTE and DELIGHT! - I am out of
PATIENCE and FAITH with it! My directions from Mr. Brown are
so INDEFINITE and MISLEADING. My time and efforts have been
squandered all Summer and fall, EXPERIMENTING ALL FOR
NOTHING! Besides it is the most inconvenient Appliance,
possible to use. One must bother with ice - which is
expensive - and consume the whole evening getting ready for,
and taking the treatment! It precludes even a neighborhood
call or having evening callers, also an overnight visit. And
to think of using it when on a nursing case, would be
ENTIRELY out of the QUESTION, as one couldn't be provided
with ice and a 2 gal. crock, if one DID happen to have the
time.
Dear Mr. Cayce, please do not misunderstand me! I'd gladly
make MORE and GREATER sacrifices, if there WAS THE LEAST
IMPROVEMENT in MY HEALTH.
Osteopath treatments "use me up" somewhat, and I must lie
around much of the day. My head is full of distress -
especially back part & back of neck.
Am so nervous and have no endurance, circulation so poor,
throat, ears and eyes involved more - really I don't know
what to do, I am that DISHEARTENED! It chafes me to live
such a SELFISH LIFE!
I have thought what a wonderful privilege it would be to be
strong and a co-worker in your new hospital!
How I shall hope & pray for your highest success! I would be
glad to receive a couple more of the Testimonial booklets to
give away with the other booklets.
I must beg your pardon for IMPOSING a letter of this length
and tenor, upon your valuable time, for no doubt you are
fairly besieged with correspondence.
Perhaps I can write more cheerful next time.
With heartiest good wishes to all, I am
Sincerely (Mrs.) [

Dear Mrs. [
4329]
I find yours of the 30th on my desk on my return from a very
sad mission to our old home in Kentucky. My mother passed
away on the 26th. Though she was seventy-one, and had lived
a very useful life, being a great sufferer though, especially
in the last three years - none of us felt equal to the task
of giving her up, but such partings we know must come to all
- but I find it very, very hard indeed to reconcile myself to
the circumstances and conditions.
Now, in reference to yourself, Mrs. [
4329] I am sorry to know
that you are not improving and that you find it so hard to
get the applicator straightened out. I think of my poor
mother when she said to me, "Son, this little appliance has
kept Mother alive for three years. Surely there must be some
efficacy in its application." I believe, Mrs. [
4329], the
best thing to do would be for us to make another reading, and
if possible make it entirely from questions. You make out a
list of questions - ask everything that you can regarding
your condition. Of course my being away has put appointments
far, far, ahead, and made me behind with my work - but, if we
are sure in finding you home most any day, I feel that in the
next few weeks, anyway, we will have the opportunity to take
this up. I will try to include questions regarding the
appliance, should same be suggested to be used again. I'll
try to get these so explicit that there will be no trouble
with it.
I feel that I can appreciate your feelings, and all the
circumstances surrounding same, especially so after having
passed through this experience of the last few weeks. We
want to be of help if possible, and appreciate your faith and
confidence in what we are trying to do, and I certainly hope
and trust, and pray, that the strength and the knowledge and
power will be given me through these Forces to suggest that
something for you that will bring health and happiness.
Let us hear from you regarding this, won't you?
With kindest personal regards from all,
Sincerely, Edgar Cayce EC:GD

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Cayce:-
Yours of the 10th received. I regret so deeply, the loss of
your beloved mother! I, too, know the sadness of such
partings, having lost my parents years ago! Nothing - NO ONE
- can fill a mother's place, but I like to think that their
spirits are near - that they have only stepped over a
threshold, into the spirit world, as from one room to
another; and after having left off their material vestment -
with all its cares, sorrows, & afflictions - the soul is
freed and at peace. Yes "Peace that passeth all
understanding"! Then why, oh, why do we grieve? YET - WE
DO! The sympathy of friends comforts us, but the ache and
terrible void in our hearts remains. Since words are futile,
and nothing but "TIME" can assuage our grief. From my own
experience, I know that your grief, dear friends, will be
mitigated by your service to others, which, of course, would
please your dear departed parent more than anything else! So
let me say that I hope you may receive all the power, from
the great storehouse of the Universal Mind forces, to meet
every demand - healing every afflicted person that appeals to
you!
As regards my case, I think you are right - that it would be
wise to have another reading. I want to be fair to you, also
to Mr. Brown & myself. Please tell me, did your mother use
the same kind of applicator that I am using, getting
vibrations through minerals the same way? If that was what
you meant, it would renew my confidence.
I am wondering if I should continue using it as I am now,
(with 10% Silver Nitrate, and 10% tincture iron (that is
10/13% to which was added 50% alcohol.) While WAITING for a
reading - which will be sometime you said.
I shall cut down Osteopath treatments to one a week, until
the new reading. At the end of this week I will have taken
19. The Dr. thinks my condition better, and agreed to one a
wk.
I am here so constantly, that an indefinite date for reading
will not be risky or if you could tell me "the WEEK", I could
manage to not leave the house from ten A.M. till 3:30 P.M. to
better ensure your catching me.
Following are some questions -
Does use of APPLICATOR AGGRAVATE and INTENSIFY the NERVE
DISTRESS in my HEAD?
Also, does it cause slight ROARING in ears, & a feeling as if
a bubble were breaking? (Latter continuously at times yet
have no cold)
Since using the iron & alcohol solution for over a week, my
head is more distressed, and urine almost colorless. Is THAT
or something else the cause?
Would SOME OTHER REMEDY be better for me than the APPLICATOR,
for general conditions and to make me sleep longer hrs!
(Quite often I fail to sleep until 2 & 3 A.M. but after that
sleep well till 8 or 8:30. - seldom get over six hrs. sleep
during night.)
If use of Applicator is advised again please state,
EXPLICITLY the way minerals are to be prepared and
proportions - stating definitely the percent.
What causes HANDS, FACE & FEET to bloat?
When lying on right side (especially) the act of SWALLOWING
causes a little sound in that part of throat (one of the
complications of a terrible cold a few weeks ago). Is there
any OBSTRUCTION of passages of air when swallowing? (At
times it seemed difficult to swallow water)
Are OSTEOPATH TREATMENTS benefiting spinal condition?
HOW MANY MORE should I take?
If any of these questions are inconsistent, omit them. I
would be glad to hear from you as soon as possible, yet those
sicker than I, should have precedence.
Mr. & Mrs. [...] join me in kindest regards and heartfelt
sympathy. Mrs. [

Dear Mr. Cayce:-
I suppose my letter of last week - containing questions - has
reached you ere this. There is on in particular that I
forgot to include which is as follows:
Was it CONGESTION of ARTERIES in my NECK and HEAD which
caused such distress during my last severe cold a few weeks
ago?
Have I hardening of the arteries?
If so is the condition in the advanced stage?
I am very anxious to know about this, for there is still
soreness when pressing lightly along the veins of my neck,
besides I am subject to what I call "Nervous headache in the
NECK" - as well as head. The distress is in the artery
leading from the temple to chest above the heart - and
different movements of the body causes distress at different
points. Another thing I want to ask NOW is whether or not
you would be jeopardizing your power, if you digressed from
healing subjects to that of solving a little mystery?
The mystery is this: - during my absence last spring, a
person borrowed part of a musical instrument belonging to me,
(dear to me because it had been Mr. [...]'s [her husband's]).
The part belonging TO ME was not returned, but an inferior -
SMALLER part was returned IN ITS PLACE - spoiling the quality
production of music.
In case you would attempt to locate the missing article when
giving my reading, I will restate the facts more clearly, if
needed. As the person who is responsible for this exchange
is a nephew of Mrs. [
4847]'s - Paul [...] Inre Ave., this
city - it would make better feelings could we know that he is
innocent - as he claims - and WHO the GUILTY PERSON IS.
Bear in mind dear Mr. Cayce, that I would not ask this extra
"feature" if there is ANY CHANCE of detriment to your psychic
power for the good of the sick. No, I would not ask it for
the WORLD!
