8/13/28 EC's letter: "I have yours of the 2nd. I certainly
was indeed sorry to hear of Miss [
4849]'s death. I regret
that I couldn't have been of service. Of course we have no
bill, Mr. [...]. The Assoc. attempts to serve others through
these channels. Where we cannot be of service we can't ask,
or even think of asking one to contribute. The work is
entirely philanthropic. Those who wish to contribute, may -
and it is only through service that we hope to ever gain
anything.
"I wish I knew how to express to you my sympathies at this
time. I feel that no one knows how to sympathize that hasn't
experienced such. I believe that's why our Lord and Master
took on flesh, that he might know the suffering of the human
heart, the frailty of flesh, the weakness of man. I trust
that sometime we will all be able to understand. I believe
our Assoc. offers a channel for the study of such. I hope we
may accomplish something.
"I thank you for giving me the opportunity to TRY to serve.
I regret that I was unable TO serve."
Sincerely, Edgar Cayce
