This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 115 West 35th Street, Virginia Beach, Va., this 10th day of May, 1927, in accordance with request made by self - Miss [4856].

TEXT

1. GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions; also the treatment for the cure relief of this body.
2. EC: Yes, we have the body here.
3. Now, we find there are conditions that cause distress at times in the physical forces of this body. These conditions are made up of what might be termed many minor conditions, and thus vary in the effect as is produced in the physical forces. Hence we find the disturbances are deep-seated, though not NECESSARILY by same being of that nature or disposition to produce those conditions that would be in the manner of permanently detrimental. However, as is seen, these conditions so weaken the physical resistance of the body, that, were the body exposed or to contract any condition that would attack a functional center, these might terminate in very detrimental conditions for the physical body.
4. These, then, are conditions as we find them in this body, [4856] we are speaking of:
5. IN THE BLOOD SUPPLY, this shows rather an effect in the functioning of the organs, than of a condition of disturbance in its own self. While the condition and the disturbance is in the blood stream, and the effects of same in capillary circulation are seen at times, the CAUSE of this does not arise from within the action of the blood itself. Rather that of the blood ATTEMPTING to produce an equilibrium, and when the metabolism, or when the balance of the blood supply becomes so unbalanced, that disturbance is produced in an ORGAN by the absorption, or by the non-elimination from those centers the disturbance becomes more localized, and these are seen in their changing effects in nasal cavity, in lungs, in digestive system, in kidneys, though these do not always, or at all times, produce the disturbing condition or factor.
6. This, then, as we find, is an unbalanced condition. Not an elementary condition of the constituents of the blood supply. Hence not organic or functional. Rather functional of the organs themselves.
7. IN THE NERVE SYSTEM, this both good and bad, for we find there are the abilities in the entity to control self very properly. The body is UNUSUALLY balanced mentally, and the actions of the body in itself to care for the physical forces of the body have the tendency towards good. Hence the continual nagging conditions, yet never entirely very sick, see?
8. In the centers of the cerebrospinal we find rather those seats or causes of the conditions of the body. Hence we have the condition produced in the body. Rather a reflex from nerve inactivity, yet the sympathetic nerve system good. Only subluxations and reflexes from same in nerve plexuses produce the condition. These are seen in the lumbar (specific) and in the upper dorsal. Hence the irritations as are produced, and of the greater disturbing forces for this body, [4856], are in the lungs and nasal cavities, or rather would it be the excretions through the mucus producing tissue of throat, bronchials, and nasal, and the disturbing elements, particularly, in the functioning of the pelvic organs, as these do not always behave themselves normally, as is thought for by the body; though not an organic condition in the functioning of the organs themselves. These, we find, as given, rather a reflex condition, and not all times persistent even sufficient to produce other than a dull, laggard, inactive condition through the system. Hence slow, dull headaches at times, the forcing of self to activities; yet the MENTAL - when aroused - active sufficient to show that these are subjugations, and that the body is rather poisoning self though these sublimations, or subligations, in the cerebro-spinal system and reflexes from same produce disturbing elements in the functioning of the body.
9. Now, to meet the needs of these conditions:
10. First we would, through deep manipulations, osteopathically given, correct those subluxations in the lumbar and in the upper dorsal regions. This should not require more than six to thirteen (6 to 13) treatments. The ADJUSTMENTS should only be made every OTHER treatment and the GENERAL treatment given every other treatment, see?
11. When these corrections have been made, prepare and take these as medicinal properties, to produce the correct vibrations throughout the physical forces of this body:
12. First we would prepare as the carrier, this:
13. To sixteen (16) ounces of distilled water, add eight (8) ounces Wild Cherry Bark. Reduce by simmering (not boiling) to one-half (1/2) the quantity. Strain while warm, and add two (2) ounces of simple syrup - while warm, see? Then add:

    Compound Syrup of Sarsaparilla...............2 ounces,
Iodide of Potassium 10% solution............30 minims,
Bromide of Potassium 10% solution...........15 minims.

    (Small quantities, but we only desire to have the active forces, which will be supplied with the other properties as are added to this solution.)

    Syrup of Horehound.........................1/2 ounce,
Essence of Elder Flower....................1/2 ounce,
Elixir Calisaya............................1/2 ounce,
Oil of Sassafras............................10 minims.

    Then cut two (2) ounces Balsam of Tolu in two (2) ounces of pure grain alcohol, and add to solution.
    The dose of this would be half teaspoonful four (4) times each day, before meals and before retiring, see? and eat the meals!
14. The body should be more REGULAR in its diet - not overloading the system at any time.
15. The diet should be cereals, nuts, fruits, rather than TOO MUCH of meats or green vegetables. Rather nuts and fruits, see? Soups of any meats may be taken. Shell fish especially good, and that as prepared with its own juices - that is, shell fish, for the iodine is necessary in the system as comes from same.
16. Do this, consistently, persistently.
17. Do not take medicinal properties until corrections are made. Begin the diet with the corrections.

   Received the report of the reading regarding my health, which you had on May 10, 1927, for which I want to thank you and I appreciate it very much. Most of the things that you suggested were right in your report, as far as my opinion is concerned - I cannot tell you if they are correct or not. I have had the medicines filled which you mentioned in your report, and I fixed same as per your instructions, and am taking it. Will let you know if same will help me.    Dear Mr. Cayce:-
   Could not answer your letter and report sooner, as same was held up in the mail some way, and I first received same yesterday.
   Some of my trouble and difficulties seem to be somewhat the same as you went through when you were a boy, according to what I read regarding your life in your pamphlet that you have printed.
   My trouble has been now for seventeen (17) steady years, and I have gone through every form and kind of treatment known of by the best leading specialists in the country. I am subject to getting a certain form of an unconscious spell, that no doctors or anyone else, has ever seen any case just like mine. I never have any warning when these spells are coming and I lose consciousness in just a second or two. I stay unconsciousness from five to ten minutes and sometimes a little longer.
   The mystery of my case to all the fine doctors and nerve specialists, is that when I am unconsciousness as far as my own self is concerned, I will keep on talking. At the time when I am in those spells and people who are with me trying to hold me, I will talk to them, that is I will answer their questions, and then I will talk to them on subjects that I have never read about, nor did I ever hear anything about. The people tell me the things I talk about and what I do when I am in those spells, as soon as I am over them. As soon as I recover from the spells I can continue with whatever work I was doing just before I got the spell, and no one can ever tell that anything happened.
   While I am in those spells I will generally do something different, and I will never do anything that was on my mind before the spell. I have torn to pieces so much of my clothing that I have on, while in the spell. Then while I am in the spell I seem to have such powerful strength. Several people cannot hardly hold me to keep me from tearing things up. When I am my own self I do not have any unusual strength, and the doctors cannot understand why I should have such powerful strength when I am unconscious. If those spells come on when I am walking, I will always fall no matter where I am. Then if I am sitting down while a spell comes on, I will get up and walk anywhere in just a minute or two. This trouble is surely terrible as one never knows what is going to take place next when a spell comes on. Sometimes I will go a few days without any, then again they come every day for a few weeks in succession. The spells also come when I am asleep at night. They also come any period of the month, as no certain time of the month has anything to do with the spells. Several years I stayed six months in a sanitarium, where three good doctors were nearly all the time, but they could not help me, nor could they tell what any of my trouble was.
   Over two hundred (200) x-rays were taken of every organ in my body and in my head, but they cannot find anything wrong.
   I have gone through several large operations hoping they could find the cause and remove same.
   The doctors thought probably there was trouble with poison in the system due from constipation. A few years ago they removed my appendix. They took out my tonsils, although I never had sore throat, but they thought poison could accumulate around the tonsils and go in the stomach. They operated on some glands that were near the ureathea [urethra?], as they thought that bothered the nerves, but it had nothing to do with the nerves. They also made an exploratory operation a few years ago of the female organs, and the doctors found everything fine and ok. I never have had any trouble at all with the monthly periods.
   I have been under very strict diets for years, by the best specialists in the country. Mayo Brothers doctored me for two years through some doctors in San Diego and Los Angeles, as they thought it was my nerves. All of their medicines and different form of nerve treatments did not help me one bit.
   A year ago February 1st, I underwent a very large intestinal operation by a very famous surgeon. In fact five surgeons and specialists performed the operation.
   They removed the "caecum" where they thought poison accumulated, and they also removed the entire ascending colon, and nearly the entire transverse colon. The surgeons loosened the small intestines and made a new opening for them to join the transverse colon where it joined the descending colon on the left side. There are no intestines left on my right side at all. This operation was a wonderful success, but none of the doctors or surgeons ever expected me to recover after such an operation. I have never had any trouble with constipation since the operation, and have gained a great deal in weight. Then I can eat any kind of food now. The doctors surely thought this operation would cure those spells, but it did not. I also took a few years of osteopathic and chiropractic treatments hoping that would help the nerves, but it did not do any good. Then I took 3 years of Christian Science and that never cured me.
   A couple of months ago, I met a fine medium, and she is positive that it is an obsession. She saw me in some of the spells and she claims it is earthbound and evil spirits that take control of my body and soul at certain times, and these spirits do all of these things when they have me under control. She claims I am psychic and if I develop for a medium I can control these spells. I am trying to develop now and the good forces I hope will soon control me, and keep out the bad and evil forces.
   Hope to improve soon so I can return to work, as I have been supporting my mother and two small brothers. I am a bookkeeper, and am glad these spells never affected my mind, so I could do mental work.
   My father was killed in an accident 2 years ago. Hoping to hear from you again. Will close for this time.

   Dear Miss [4856]:-
   I have your report, and thank you very much for same. Your letter also is quite interesting, and quite surprising. I am in hopes, however - after looking over the reading - that with the medicinal properties, you are having the adjustments made, BEFORE you begin with the medicinal properties. That these may have been made several years ago, or even a year ago, I think they should be made at the present time, to expect to obtain results with the medicinal properties for the system.
   I wish you would make a list of questions regarding the conditions, and these spells that you have, and let us see what we would get as a reading in the light of the questions; for of course, as you know, the circumstances surrounding the trouble is very unusual. While we have had quite a number of cases similar, though not the same as yours. One case I remember in particular, just at the present moment, was a young lady who had become entirely deaf in the course of two or three years. The reading developed the condition that this had come about on account of the individual's surroundings as related to her association with the unseen forces. In that case, her relief was immediate, and she has developed a wonderful mediumship. Another case of a gentleman who had spells somewhat similar to the ones you describe - had had for a number of years. It was necessary for him, according to the reading, to have some mechanical appliances, also medicinal properties, for his system to adjust the physical in such a way and manner as to control the forces that came through him. These, as many others, are the exceptions, rather than the rule, in our experience - but I'm certainly hoping and trusting that we may be able to be of service to you in getting set aright, and in aiding you to understand just what this is all about, that you may make use - if you so desire - of the forces being presented, or that you may banish - if you so desire - these expressions of unseen forces that trouble you from time to time.
