DRILLING IN MORGAN AREA IS CONTINUED
The J. O. Rhome No. 3, shallow test, on the Rhome ranch ten
miles north of Morgan, reached a depth of 375 feet Friday.
This will was spudded in about 12 days ago. It is located
600 feet southeast of the J. O. Rhome No. 1, which was
drilled with a standard rig. A "Fort Worth Spudder" is being
used to do the drilling on No. 3. A. E. Simpson, of
Cleburne, Mexia and Wichita has the contract to drill to the
first pay sand. Most of the leases in this block are owned
by Hardy Sitton, of Cleburne. He, with others, has the full
contract.
They expect to encounter the pay sand at about 785 feet,
according to Mr. Sitton. The J. O. Rhome No. 2 is located
600 feet northwest of No. 1. A showing of gas and oil was
encountered at 745 feet on No. 2.
Mr. Simpson has a block of leases which extends from the
town of Eulogy (12 miles north of Morgan) east to Brazos
Point and on to the Brazos river. This block is about three
miles from the J. O. Rhome No. 3.
Another company has secured a block west of Eulogy, according
to Mr. Sitton's statement.
Three or four scouts from different companies have been going
around over the country near these wells and locations, in
the past two or three weeks.
The J. O. Rhome No. 3 is about five miles northwest of the
M. B. Wyrick No. 1, deep test, of the Telegram Oil company,
located nine miles northwest of Morgan. At present the
Wyrick No. 1 is closed down on account of the burning of
their rig on last Monday night, which caused a loss of over
$8,000, with $1,500 insurance, according to G. C. Martin,
secretary treasurer of the Telegram Oil Company.
More activity is expected in this field within the next
few weeks.
9/08/25 M. B. Wyrick's letter to EC:
Have your letter Aug. 28. Glad to hear from you but sorry
you are going so far away. The enclosed pictures will show
you condition at our well. We have a new outfit arriving
today should be drilling in 10 days. No evidence as to cause
of fire. You say Miss Davis not with you. Will she be with
you at Virginia Beach?
GD's note: He [M. B. Wyrick] requested a physical reading
for himself and for Mrs. [

9/22/25 EC's letter to Mr. Wyrick:
Well, we got over here, that is to Norfolk, on the 15th.
Miss Gladys came on the 16th. We had to spend two nights
in Norfolk, before we could get things straightened
sufficiently that we could stay in the house. We've had
quite a hard time getting straightened out where we could
begin to do anything, cleaning up, unpacking and arranging
and we haven't been able to get hold of any help. Then we're
a long ways from the stores in the place. Our address though
is Virginia Beach, 35th Street. Our mail is not delivered,
though they do deliver special delivery letters and wires.
Well, I'm in hopes that you're getting along fine with the
well. I suppose they've gotten rebuilt by this time and
perhaps started in to clean out again. You know if I can be
of any help, don't hesitate to call on me and let me know how
things come along when they get going, for I feel sure they
will get a good paying well there yet. Certainly thank you
for letting me know about things as you have and I hope that
you will continue to call on me whenever it's possible for
you to do so and PLEASE come to see us whenever you get the
opportunity, for you know, of everything, we do not want to
get out of touch with you, because we've gotten a little
further away. I hear from Blumenthal pretty regularly,
though we have not gotten fully started with his work as yet.
I am in hopes he will be able to get some of our data printed
now pretty soon, or as soon as we are able to get
straightened out a bit. Please don't hesitate and don't
fail to let us have some suggestions from you from time to
time. We are putting Chicago on our stationery as one of
the centers of the work of the Association. I hope I'm not
presuming when I feel that I can refer any of enquiries we
might have to you.
I'm glad to say we're all feeling very well, though pretty
well tired out from so much work and cleaning. We find the
ocean is pretty fine. We have all been in for a few minutes
one time, but it is certainly turning off cold here - but I
guess it's the Equinox storm.
9/26/25 M. B. Wyrick's letter:
Regarding the well. We finished the derrick and replacing
of tools and made the first run yesterday, one month from
date of fire. We found the hole bridged at 5200' with 1200'
of water. Should soon clear this and resume drilling.
At first opportunity, please give me a reading showing
conditions in the well and advise if the work is being done
properly and get all information you can on future operation.
Just what will be necessary to insure success and about when
we may expect it.
Now regarding your work, you know I will be glad to assist
in any way I can at any time. So you are at liberty to
include me in your plans in any way that I can serve you.
With kindest regards to yourself and family, including
Miss Davis.
Yours very truly, [signed] M. B. Wyrick MBW-A
