This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 16th day of April, 1944, in accordance with request made by self - Mr. [5023], new Associate Member of the Ass'n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., via the book, THERE IS A RIVER, by Thomas Sugrue.

TEXT

1. GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly and tell me the conditions you find at the present time, giving the cause of the existing conditions, also the treatment for the cure and relief of this body; answering the questions as I ask them.
2. EC: Yes, we have the body here [5023].
3. As we find, there ars disturbances preventing the better physical functioning of the body. The conditions existent in the present are more in that direction of exhaustion and weakness, or the resultant effects produced by an unusual type of nerve exhaustion.
4. These, as we find, are the sources or causes. Some time back there was a kick or an injury to the right side near the liver area, or a low stroke in the pit of the stomach that caused an accumulation in secretions in the liver area. These brought about nerve exhaustion to the body.
5. With the stimulations given through the period there was brought on amoebic dysentery. This caused, then, excess lymph circulation through the alimentary canal, in the attempt to alleviate by the excess leucocyte circulation through the area.
6. This has, in the main, been eliminated, yet results through the alimentary canal still exist.
7. Once each day, for a period of at least 4 to 5 days in succession, we would apply a Grape Poultice over the abdominal area, including the lower portion of the liver, extending as low as the caecum. Crush the grapes (the pink California grapes, at this particular season) and apply on gauze about a quarter of an inch to half an inch thick. Allow this poultice to remain until the body has absorbed almost all the moisture from the grapes. Repeat this each day for at least 5 days.
8. Then begin and massage the area with this combination of oils:

   Olive Oil..............2 ounces,
Peanut Oil.............2 ounces,
Lanolin (melted).....1/4 ounce.

9. Also there should be a stimulating treatment to the whole cerebrospinal system, from the 3rd cervical to the lumbar axis. There should be about 10 of such treatments, stimulating treatments, osteopathically given.
10. Through the period of these applications, both the poultice and osteopathic treatments, drink fresh grape juice often.
11. Build up body resistance with quantities of beef juice taken as medicine.
12. Also take a teaspoonful each day of Wyeth's Beef, Iron & Wine.
13. Thus we will find that we will bring better conditions for this body.

1. 11/27/43 He wrote: "This autumn it was my good fortune to purchase a copy of 'There Is A River'. It helped strengthen my courage to work harder for a system of life very much like that outlined in the chapter on philosophy... Could you, at your convenience, give me a Physical and a Life Reading? As I am not sick, please do not consider this request for the reading if there are those who need your services more. Waiting a year would not disappoint me. Probably a few details may help to make the reading more purposeful. My job is public education and some sort of nervous trouble seems to cut down my efficiency. At times my sciatic nerve hurts some. I try to balance my meals with natural foods, but may eat too much. I have not eaten flesh for about 5 years..."
2. 1/03/44 Letter: "Thanks for your letter of Dec. 2, giving me appointments... As these readings are several months yet, I will send questions later... Thanks for the beautiful Christmas greeting from the Association..."
3. 4/01/44 "...In the Easter Bulletin I read about your recent illness...so I am asking you to put my Physical Reading off indefinitely. There is no hurry because I am not ill physically at this time...there is a nervous condition which I would like to check. Several years ago, I had some sort of a nervous breakdown shortly after going through a spell of amoebic dysentery. This was not serious, and my nervous system seems to improve each year since, but still I do not seem to work as efficiently as I would like to. So please give the time to someone who needs it more than I do. If, however, I do not hear from you... I will be in my home..., Mich."
4. 4/16/44 Questions formed by IMG on the basis of letter of 4/01/44: (1) What brought on the nervous breakdown of several years ago? (2) Was this responsible for the spell of amoebic dysentery? (3) How may physical condition be improved to increase efficiency?

REPORTS

1. 6/10/44 Letter: "At your suggestion, I am sending the name of the osteopath who is treating me. Mrs. [480] has made him familiar with your work. His name is Dr. John H. Morrison."
2. 6/23/44 Letter: "Many thanks for the Physical Reading... The diagnosis is helping me improve a condition of many years standing which was almost impossible to find with ordinary medical knowledge..."
3. 7/18/44 He obtained his Life Reading 5023-2.
4. 9/13/44 Mrs. [480]'s letter: "Mr. [5023] is getting some better but when I heard last he was not doing everything suggested. Dr. Morrison told me."
