4/26/44 Mother's letter: "As our appointment with you is for
May 4, I thought it wise to state my questions at this time.
Our son was born
10/26/33, at ..., Calif. The labor lasted
86 hours with a breech presentation. He weighed about 3
pounds, and was placed in an incubator and was tubular fed
until he weighed 5 pounds. He has 'spastic paralysis' and a
speech problem that we have been told is 'blocked speech'.
He walks with some difficulty. At the present time he
complains of headaches, but he has just recently recovered
from scarlet fever. He attends a special school, and has an
I.Q. of 138.
(1) What caused this condition? (2) Will he be able to
overcome it? (3) If therapy is indicated, would the
following be satisfactory: a. Mrs. Florence Sloan, 595 South
St., Glendale (therapist); b. Dr. Amy Cochran, Institute of
Physio-Synthesis, 2450 Mission, San Marion, Calif.
(osteopath); c. Dr. J. T. Henderson, 565 N. Lake St.,
Pasadena, (chiropractor); d. Dr. E. D. Ulrich, 932 S.
Crenshaw, Los Angeles (radio-onyx); e. Lewis School for
Stammerers, 939 S. Serrano Ave., Los Angeles, (speech
therapist); f. Elsie Willson, 4491 Beverly Blvd., Los Angeles
(speech correction). (4) Is there a reason for this
condition other than a birth injury? We pray that you will
be able to council and advise us so that he may have a full
and useful life. With gratitude."
