4/11/44 Letter: "...I am now 29 years old, and I have
not been able to stand or walk for 15 years. I have been
afflicted with this trouble at least since I got out of the
toddler stage as a child. I am afflicted through the whole
body. I was never as strong physically as other children
though always in good health. I have never been able to run
and jump as other children. Until I was about 10 years old
I could sort of half run, but when I got going too fast, I
would lose balance and fall on my knees. As I got older I
became slower and though I fell less often I had much more
trouble getting up. I walked sort of on the toes, hips
swaying, chest pushed out, with an arch in my back. This
place in my back was always my weakest spot, where I tired
first. I have never had a reflex when my knees would be
tapped and have none now. I was able to get about through
and went to school 7 1/2 years until 1929, when I broke my
left leg in the region of the ankle in a fall. It healed
nicely, but when I tried to stand, my condition had so
weakened I was not able to. I have not been able to stand
or walk since, despite all efforts, exercises and treatments,
etc. No matter how much I exercised I just got weaker,
especially in my back where I mentioned before. When I would
try to stand my back would pull me forward and down. It
was so weak I could not straighten to stand erect. My
circulation is poor.
When the weather turns chilly my hands and feet turn cold
even though the rest of my body was warm. At first only my
feet turned cold, but for 6 years now my hands also. The
cords or ligaments in my body are drawing up or contracting
for many years now despite exercising to keep them supple.
My legs at the ankles, knees, hips, arms, neck - everywhere
the drawing and stiffening. But the worst is at the
hips where it draws up into the groin, my lower back and
especially my knees which are so drawn up I can't nearly
straighten them. I had inflammatory rheumatism about 11
years ago, and was unable to get out of bed for 6 months
and had fever of 105 1/2. About 8 years ago my joints would
start to get hot achy. This would last for from a few days
to 2 weeks and then go away, but then the tissue or whatever
the correct name is, between the joints seemed to have burned
away and left a small depression between my knee, wrist,
elbow shoulder, etc. joints and with each attack the
depression became deeper till now I can stick a finger
between the joints which has left them very weak. These
attacks still occur but not as strongly as before, but I
am very weak.
I have had large pimples break out on my body for years now,
especially my face, back, underarms and between the legs by
the groin. At times they would be very large, raw and sore
for weeks at a time; though I still have them, they are
not as bad as they used to be. My face and nose are deeply
pitted from them. As my physical condition weakened my
vision also became poorer though whether from the same cause
I don't know. Up close, I can see pretty well, but even a
short distance away objects are not clear. My condition is
now such I can't turn in bed, have to lay in one position
which is very tiresome, have to be turned. I can't flex all
my fingers or raise my arms in front of me. I am practically
helpless. My condition has been diagnosed as a Pseudo
Hypertrophic Muscular Dystrophy or a chronic Anterior
Poliomyelitis and a Pituitary hypofunction, and I don't know
how many different things. Now I have given you a general
description of my case I am writing out some questions...
(1) What is your opinion of my trouble? (2) What do you
recommend? (3) What do you suggest be done to break up the
adhesions or the drawing up of the cords or ligaments in my
arms, legs, hips and back, so that I could again straighten
them to full length? My vision keeps worsening, do you have
anything to suggest? Do you recommend anything regarding the
large pimples I get and the pitting of my features? My poor
circulation? Anything to recommend about the getting hot and
aching of my joints and the resulting depression between my
joints?
Perhaps I did not phrase these questions as you would want
them, or they may not be clearly expressed, or perhaps the
description I have given of my case suggests additional
questions... I would be most grateful if someone in your
organization would rewrite them... May God bless you and
make you the instrument in helping me."
REPORTS
6/07/44 Letter: "Thank you for the reading. It has given me
renewed hope. I shall try to fully carry out the reading.
I took my first treatment with the Appliance this morning.
I believe that would put the time for my check reading for
sometime in December as I understand it. I would like to
ask a few questions if I may. I have the points where the
Appliance is to be attached on my body, marked with iodine
so as to correctly place it. As the iodine marks rub off, I
have the spots marked again. Is it alright to do this? The
nickel plate is to be placed 3 fingers width to the right
and 2 up from the navel center. This means towards my right
arm, doesn't it, and not to what would be to the right for a
person facing me, which would be my left side, toward my left
arm. I am putting the nickel plate 3 fingers width to my
right and 2 up from the navel center. After the massage with
the Olive Oil and Tincture of Myrrh, is it all right to wash
or wipe off the excess which does not rub into the skin, or
should I let it remain on the skin, as I am now doing, though
it is a bit greasy? Is it alright to hold plates in place
with string passed around the body, if adhesive tape doesn't
hold them firm enough? Or to hold it in place with finger?
Hope I am not being too much bother. Should treatment be
taken at certain time of day or before or after meal, or
doesn't it make any difference?"
6/12/44 EC's letter: "...It is fine that you have the places
marked on your body for the plates of the Appliance...in
putting them on a few times, you will know exactly when they
are in position. Yes, it means toward your right side. Draw
a straight line from the navel center, 3 fingers width to the
right and 2 fingers up. This means the width of the finger,
not the length... Give your body the opportunity to absorb
all the oils, etc. it will. After about 5 minutes, bathe off
with soda water. The use of the string is all right. Most
people find the adhesive tape more satisfactory. Have some
definite period of the day that you take the treatment...
The ingredients work with the assimilation which does not
take place until several hours after you have eaten, so it
is better to wait until an hour or one and a half hours after
you have eaten, but at the same time every day. If you have
any other questions, don't hesitate to write me..."
11/24/44 Letter to GD: "I am in a dilemma, and am writing to
you for help. I received a Physical Reading from Mr. Cayce,
which said I was to have further instructions in 6 months.
As requested, I wrote when I started taking the treatments
telling about when the 6 months' period would be up, so that
an appointment could be made for me. The full 6 months are
up on
12/03/44. Now here is my problem: I know that Mr.
Cayce has been ill and is not giving readings. I don't want
to bother him, and at first I thought perhaps I shouldn't
write at all, but then that might make it appear as if I
didn't want my check physical reading; but I do want it. So
I thought I would write to you enclosing $10, which I believe
is correct, so that I may be eligible for my reading when Mr.
Cayce resumes giving readings. So, will you please take care
of this. I do hope Mr. Cayce is much better..."
