9/30/43 Mother's letter: "...I don't have $20 right now,
but I wondered if he could be booked for a reading? We have
spent all we had and are still paying on doctor, hospital and
drug bills that haven't been of help. We are farmers and at
present we don't have any means of obtaining the money. My
son is our only child, and we want to do anything that we can
to help him to walk. We have had him at Campbell's Clinic
in Memphis, and Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville. At both
places they diagnosed his trouble as Progressive Muscular
Dystrophy, and they don't give us any hope of his recovery.
If he could be booked for a reading, we would possibly pay
by the time his reading was given. If this can be arranged,
will you please let me know?"
10/15/43 EC's reply: "We will be very glad to make
the appointment for your boy...you can take care of the
membership just as it is convenient for you. Hope you will
read 'There Is A River'. You will know why I am especially
interested in children..."
10/20/43 Mother's letter: "I am sending in the form for
membership and will send the fee later. I am very anxious to
get help for my son, as his legs are getting more drawn all
the time..."
5/02/44 Mother's letter: "I am enclosing $20 for
membership fee. The reading for our 10-year old son is due
May 9. You said for me to write you a few days prior to
that time. My son has been unable to walk at all since March
1943. He has what the doctors call Progressive Muscular
Dystrophy. I would be so grateful if you could tell us what
to do in order to cure him, so that he can enjoy life. He
will be at home on Tuesday May 9. We would like to know
what has caused his trouble, too."
REPORTS

since we heard nothing further.
